Introduction
I am a Hunter.
Many people would confuse a Hunter with a Witch but we are two different creatures. Let me explain.
Witches: They gain their power from the magick that lives on the Earth and through the Moon. They use spells and wands to control these magicks. Without the spells and wands, they would die and even with them some still do.
Hunters: We are born with magick within us. We do not use wands at all however, we do use spells. Spells allow us to help control and limit the affects of our abilities, the better control we have the less a spell is needed. That being said, most Hunters don't use spells for everyday things. All we need is intent but our magick is a thing of its own, alive within us, allowing us to use its might. On a side note, Hunters also have heightened strength and reflexes similar to were-panthers or were-cougars.
We live in groups known as Prides. There is one Pride for every state and our job is to control the other species of non-human origins in our territory, ensuring they stay in line so the humans don’t decide to eliminate us.
We hold a National Hunter Council once a year, which is a meeting of all the Pride leaders to discuss any major issues, introduce new leaders, etc. There is a National Paranormal Council, that has representatives from every non-human species every six months during the main two solstice and a International Paranormal Council every five years, which I am sure you can figure out how many leaders and representatives are at those things.
My Pride’s leader is my uncle and aunt with me as their heir, then their son’s first born child will be my heir. It switches back and forth between nieces and nephews as heirs. If there isn’t an heir by the leader’s eldest brother or sister, then the leader’s child is heir until one is produce, if the leader’s child becomes leader then his or her heir would come from the next in line of uncles and/or aunts’ children. It’s a little complex but it works in the end.
My cousin is 5 years older then me and enraged that I was born. My parents had been unsuccessful in having a child; my mother having miscarriaged three previous pregnancies, and my cousin was led to believe he would be the leader.
The elders of the Pride continually checked each of my mother’s pregnancies feeling the child within but when she was pregnant with me they did something never done before; they casted a circle. They infused their magick with the intent to save my life, with a spell no one but the elders knew the incantations to. My mother gave birth to me but died mere minutes thereafter, and my father died barely six months later on assignment against a flock of rogue warlocks.
I go to a local high school and have a rather normal teenage life. Well, if you can say having a half Fae for a best friend, or having a ‘devil may care’ vampire crushing on you or slaying evil monsters sent to kill you by a family member normal. Really, what’s a little hate among family?
