Huntress

Huntress

“Breakfast!” Sam chimed before I could snap at Rhydian.

Breakfast went by quickly conversation was almost non-existent as everyone noted the tension in the air. Sean had sat at the opposite end of the table OF me and didn’t look at me once.

Once the dished were cleaned it was time to make plans. I looked at everyone sitting around the dining table, varies states of nervousness and seriousness.

“There are five of us and six of them, so it is almost even hound to us. We know separating them makes them weaker plus making them chat apparently. We need to fight on our terms and try to have has many advantages as possible,” I stated.

Sam nodded, “we definitely need to fight here in the Earth Realm, where we know the land better.”

“Ceron and I don’t know this land well, which means only you three will have that advantage,” Rhydian mentioned.

I nodded, “that is true but you two will have the easiest time adjusting compare to us three trying to adjust to Faerie which had enough monsters to begin with. I don’t want to be fighting a hellhound and get attacked by something else.”

“The Alley would be a good choice. We know it well and it’s far enough to keep stray humans and other paranormals out of danger,” Sean commented.

“Humans yes but not the paranormals, that’s a normal high school spot at night, we have no idea how long the fight will take, plus kids like to go and make out,” Sam said.

“Tonight is the town’s winter festival so everyone will be making preparation, I highly doubt anyone will be at the Alley tonight” Sean stated.

I blinked Faerie could screw with time and it seemed I lost a few days if it was time for the winter festival which was the twenty-third and I went to Faerie on the fifteenth, since my school got three weeks of Christmas vacation instead of the usual two.

“We have to attack the hounds as soon as possible but I think we need to set up some traps. Maybe we can get rid of one or two of them that way.”

The group studied me and I continued, running a hand through my short hair, which still felt strange to me.

“A hole with spike at the bottom or something…a magical trap…like a cage. I am not sure yet. It’s hard since I don’t know how strong they are magick wise.Ideas would be great.”

“The cage could work,” Ceron said, “I can create a cage with my magick if you can strengthen it with your magick. We can bury it underground and lure one of the hounds over it. They fall it, door closes, done.”

I nodded, “we could do that. What about a second trap?”

“We could have another cage,” Sean added.

“I don’t think they would fall for it twice. Once we get one trapped they were be wary and alert for similar traps,” Rhydian replied.

“Better to have another one just in case,” Sean snapped back, obviously still stinging by what Rhydian made me admit.

“Enough you two. A second trap is a good idea. Ceron and I will get those ready. Sam can show Sean and Rhydian around The Alley, looking for good fighting spots. We have to be careful because the hounds are out there looking for me, but they know you guys are with me so that puts you at risk. Do not engage them if you can escape. Since they are searching in twos if we can attack group by group together we have the advantage.”

I stood up, realizing we weren’t going to be planning much more then this, there wasn’t much one could plan against demon spawns. There was just a lot of hope.

Sean went upstairs to get weapons for himself and Sam, who took the sword with a smile on her lips. Ceron and Rhydian were fiddling with their own ice swords. I watched them wondering if I should really bring them into this.

“Sam…” I said softly moving away from the others, she followed concerned.

“Hey you ok?” she asked.

“I am thinking I can end this without the fight.”

Her eyes narrowed, “how?”

“The records. If I tell Michael I will reveal them and get him exiled. He might call them off in exchange for the records.”

“That will protect you for only so long, if he does agree with it he and your asshole cousin will know we are on to them, which will only hurt you in the end. Keep the file; it’s not time to use it. We can beat these monsters.”

I hugged her hard, “thank you.”

“Don’t mention it Ro. Come on we all have things to do.”

I pulled away nodding, shaking my hands out as my magick crackled around me. I looked up at the group with a grin, “lets go hunting.”

Ceron and I worked together our magick crackling and blending together, Hunter and Winter as we created a magickal cage to hold a hell hound. It was the second one, and we had decided to make three in the end. We lifted our magick and looked down into the hole were the icey cage sat, a wave of my hand and leaves, twigs, and grass moved to cover it. The best part was if one of us stood on it, it wouldn’t collapsed if the hellhound on the other hands stood over it, well they would be for a surprise.

“Two down one to go,” I mutter already feeling tired.

Hunters were called Hunters for a reason, our Magick used our strength and life force; we fought with weapons and used magick as needed and as a last resort for that reason. I was going to need sugar and protein soon.

After the third cage was done I sat down on the grass, “I need some food and a nap if I am going to fight.”

“I didn’t realize Hunters were so weak,” Ceron said with a frown.

I glared at him, “I am not weak, however we don’t normally use this much magick in one day. We fight with our physical self before our magickal self.”

Ceron arched an eyebrow at me, I merely shrugged getting up to my feet yawning. It didn’t help that I had use a lot of magick over the last few days and was still recovering from overall exhaustion and Witches’ Brew.

“Look you go meet up with the others help them scout out the fighting area then go back to Sean’s house in an hour and half. I can get something to eat and have a nap by then.”

“I don’t think-“

I snapped my hands out, daggers landing heavily in them, “I will be ok.”

“Fine but call Sam’s cell phone if anything happens and don’t go looking for a fight.”

“I will,” I replied, already turning to walk away from Ceron and the forest, my senses on alert for the hellhounds that were looking for me.

I felt bad I had lied to my friends but I needed to talk to Michael and Damon. Besides I wanted my hunter clothes for the battle and that was back at my house.

I crawled on the roof of my house, not wanting to be seen or heard by anyone inside. I had already noted Michael’s car in the driveway but not my aunt and uncle. I slide my dagger under my windowsill and wiggled until it opened. I had done this number of times before; the lock was loose enough that a few shakes and it would pop right open. Inside my room I changed quickly into my battle gear, adding weapons from my truck. Dressed and ready to go and walked down the stairs, following the sounds of the TV.

“Hello boys,” I said as I strolled into the room walking in front of the TV and turning it off, a sword in hand, which I twirled.

“Surprised to see me?” I asked.

Michael and Damon were on their feet in an instant both wary and ready.

“Oh please don’t get up on my account,” I dragged out.

“The hellhounds were a nice touch, Michael. Damon you were smart in your choice of a sidekick, he does all the work and nothing is tied to you, smart really too sad your sidekick is an idiot. Did you two really think I wouldn’t find out who sent the demons after me?”

Damon smirked, “You were just lucky to survive the first time, its nice of you to let me know where you are it will make the hounds job in finding you that much easier.”
