Just A Number

Jungkook and I were both staring at our phones on the table, “You ready?” “I…I don’t know,” I gulped still staring at it. It’s been almost 2 weeks since we left Seoul and since we last talked to everyone back home. I know my mom is probably worried sick about me, “C’mon, let’s just get it over with,” he stood up and grabbed our phones throwing mines to me, the last time I was on my phone I had to peek on what the media was saying about me.

How depressing it was. “Whatever you read, or see, ignore it, they don’t know shit, okay?” I nervously nodded and we both turned our phones on. Suddenly I see Jungkook’s phones going off repeatedly, his whole screen flooded with messages and missed calls notifications, so was mines but not as bad as his.

I scrolled down my notifications and the first person that ever messaged me was Seokjin, “Jin…oh my god,” I whispered covering my mouth. I forgot I was supposed to meet him at the station to hang out…he must have been so worried about me. But…he definitely probably knows now…about Jungkook and I. I wonder if he’s angry.

“Jin?” Jungkook looks over at me, “Oh, ah, yeah, my friend…you haven’t met him yet,” “Him?” he slightly cocks his head to the side, “Yes HIM,” I rolled my eyes, “don’t be like that.” He mocks me and continues to scroll through his phone. I should contact him back once I get back to Seoul, I need to explain everything to him.



The next set of messages were from my mom, it was her being upset that I haven’t called her for a few days and then it turned into panicky messages after probably seeing articles online about us, her messages went from asking where I am, if I’m safe, if the media is harassing me, to then her buying a ticket to fly out here to get me, which is the last thing I would want her to do.

I quickly hit the video chat button to call her and she answered on the second ring, “Hello?? Yuna??? Where are you?? Are you okay???” A grave look plastered her face, “Yes mom, I’m okay, I’m at Jungkook’s father’s place in Busan, we’ve been here since the news broke out,” She sighs with relief taking a moment to breath in, “I’ve been worried SICK,” “I know mom I’m sorry,” “You are with Jungkook??” “Yes, he’s right here next to me,” I glanced over at Jungkook and saw him staring at me wide-eyed, I guess because me and my mom were speaking English a mile a minute.

I threw my head back and laughed out loud, “I’m sorry Jungkook,” I snorted, I panned the phone over to him for him to meet my mom, “Mom, this is Jungkook my boyfriend as I told you before and Jungkook this is my mom, Johanna, Ms. Johanna Capistrano.” “Ah,...Hell-o Mizz,…Caa…” “You can just call me by my Korean name Yuri, sweetheart,” my mom spoke in Korean, he smiles in relief which made me laugh again.



We were all talking over the video call for almost an hour well mostly my mom and Jungkook as they were getting to know each other, I’m guessing she likes Jungkook…which is what I was praying for because…I’m not sure how she’s going to react when I tell her I’m….pregnant with his child.

“Well I’m just glad you both are safe, just please be careful,” “We will mom, oh and um I have something to te--,” “Oh shoot your grandfather just tried to make himself a snack, ugh, baby can we talk soon I have to go help him,” “O-oh, right, yeah it’s fine mom,” “Okay sweetie I love you and take good care of yourself, and it was nice meeting you Jungkook-ah.” I sigh as she hangs up, I guess it will have to wait.

Jungkook tossed his phone on the table and went to lay down on his bed, “You okay?” He ran his hands down his face, “My manager and everyone wants to talk to me ASAP,” “Yeah?” “Yeah…I think we should go back…really soon, I just want to get this over with, we can’t keep hiding forever,” I got up and went to go lay on top of him, resting my head on his chest, “It’s going to suck facing reality again.”
