Candle Lights

Static Through The Radio

"Blanket!" - I yelled and threw the blanket to the next pair of hands, Jin's, which then passed it on to J-Hope's, and so on until it was handed to the last pair of hands, Jimin's, who was setting them in the basket they would carry later on to the living room. We had already tidied up the kitchen, and the boys split into teams to take care of the rest of the rooms of the house, while I was setting up the mattresses in the dance room, which was the only place they agreed to spend the night in.

It was nearly 3am, or so I presumed, as I had no clock at home besides the microwave, which went down with the electricity. It was also hard to tell because of the storm that had been raging outside for several hours now, but I knew it had to be late since all of us were clearly sleepy and tired, almost falling asleep on our feet.

"You can go to sleep" - Jin said half catching me, as I was almost dozing off - "You've been taking care of us all night, and I'm thankful, but I'm feeling terrible seeing you so tired"

"(y/n)! Please get some rest, we can take care of each other from here" - Jimin said kindly taking your hand in his, and bowing gently in a sign of gratitude.

"Are you guys sure you don't need anything else? Really?" - I said trying to contain a yawn, but failing miserably.

"The real question is: will you be able to walk to your room or will you need one of us to escort you?" - Suga, even tired, could manage some sarcasm.

"Well, I could always have an extra dosis of midnight snacks!" - V could even think about food while sleeping.
"Will you be okay going alone through the dark until you reach your room?" - Why didn't it surprise me that this question came from no other than Hobi?
"Thank you guys for the worry - I said, sincerely touched - but for one: this is my house, so even if I was blindfolded I'd know how to move around without hitting anything. And two: I'm not the one who almost had an infartus earlier" - I couldn't help but laugh, recalling the situation earlier, and as the shock had now passed, neither could they.

"Alright - Jin spoke up, calming us down - Now it's really time to go to bed" - He turned to me with a sweet smile - "Good night (Y/N), have sweet dreams"
"You too" - I smiled back and bowed. I closed the door behind me, to give the boys some privacy and to keep the warmth in the room.
I went to the kitchen where I left my candle on the table and blew the flame. I didn't like the idea of sleeping in a room with lit candles since when I was a child. I had watched a movie where the whole house burned down because of it. I paced down the hallway to my bedroom in the dark, running my hands along the wall, to make sure I was going straight. I felt the door frame slide through my fingers, and knew I had arrived. Instinctively, I pressed the light switch, only to remeber that the lack of electricity also applied to my bedroom. I sighed, and finally gave in to the tiredness, as I had really had a long day. I threw myself onto my bed (something I was far too used to to be worried about missing the landing), found my way under the covers and snuggled on my pillow. How can one's bed be so confortable? I laughed at my own thoughts as I was dozing off.

I woke up the next mornin with blazing lights wipping my face. The curtains... I had forgotten to shut them before laying down the night before. I hadn't realised they were still open because there were no lights outside last night. But now there definitely was light! I turned to side to look at the alarm clock on my bedside table. It showed 8:13 am. So, great. I had had around 6 hours of sleep? I guess I would have to work with that for the day. I got up, put on my fluffly shoes and a warm coat as it was colder inside my room after I left my warm covers. I washed my face in my bathroom, and went straight to the kitchen. It was on my way there that I looked out through my parent's bedroom window and remebered everything that happenned yesterday: the boys, the storm, the short.... All that came back to my mind as soon as I saw the immense quantity of snow that had fallen in the garden of the building through the night. No one would be able to come out of the building for a while... I shook my head to get these thoughts away and decided to head for the livingroom rather than the kitchen. I needed to check on the boys.
"Good morning" - a smiley Jin greeted me as I entered the room.
"Oh, you're up" - I was surprised. I didn't expect any of them to be up seing how tired they were yesterday.
"Well, I am always the first one to get up among us boys"
"They're all still sleeping then?" - I asked and he shook his head, laughed and then I realized he was holding a book.
"So, you've already been roaming around our books as I see" - I pointed to the book he had.
"I'm sorry if I shouldn't. They just seemed so different and interesting. I'm usually very careful with thing..." - He stood up in a jump and bent foward almost immediately.
"Jin, don't worry. I didn't mean to sound reproachful, I'm sorry" - I tried to tranquilize him - "Books are meant to be read! So if any of them interest you, by all means, please pick them up and read them"
"Ah, thank you" - he sat back again on the couch, a little uncomfortable.
"How's the reading going?" - I asked though I suspected he couldn't understand much of it.
"Well to be honest, I don't understand almost anything" - he scratched the back of his head and looked back at me -"I just thougt the images were really beautiful."
"That's not really a surprise... You chose a book in portugese" - I pointed at the title.
"Well, that explains a lot" - He chuckled.
"Yes it does" - I laughed back - "Are you hungry?"
"Not really yet, but soon the monsters will wake up claiming for food" - He lowered his voice as if we should be careful such a catastrophy might happen, which made me laugh. That's when I realised there were lights on in the kitchen. That meant the electricity was back on.
"Wait, I think the lights are back!" - I walked around excited and tested the other light switches, which confirmed my deduction - "I'm going to see the news on the TV, because I'm honestly scared with the amount of snow that fell last night. Oh, here is my phone, if you want to try and call someone just to let them know where you are" - I handed him my phone whith it's charger, and walked over to the TV room.
I switched on the TV but it seemeed like it was out of signal. I tried zapping between the channels, but none of them were working. I tried to move the antena, to reboot the TV and the cables, but nothing worked. It was odd. Then I remebered something we used to do with my father in my childhood when we'd go to the moutains to ski and there was no TV: use the radio! I turned to the cupboard in the corner of the room, and there, in the very last shelf, in a dusty box, was my old and rusty radio. Like a really oldschool radio, that works with batteries, manual tuning system etc... I took it out of it's box, and headed to the living room.
"Any luck?" - I asked Jin, who was still in the living room, with my phone in hands, next to the the plug.
"It connected once or twice but either I couldn't hear anything or they couldn't, so not much luck for the time being" - Jin frowned when he saw what I was carrying - " And what's that for?"
"Well, it seem like we're out of TV signal so I had to go back to basics" - I answered simply to wich he simply shook his head, laughing a little. I turned on the little device and started trying to tune on a radio signal, and Jin approached me, seeing if he could be useful somehow. I had only barely turned the first switch, that a high pitched queeking frequency came screeming through the speakers, deafening probably every living creature in a 100 meter radius. I freaked out while trying to put it out, pressing all the buttons that would slip under my finger tips, while he fell trying to cover his ears. Until at last I must have hit the volume button, bringing us back into silence.
"What's going on?" - a sleepy, confused pink haired person peeked through a small crack of the door to the dance room.
"Oh no, I'm sorry! I didn't want to wake you guys up" - I wished they could rest a bit more.
"It's ok" - he stepped out into the living room, with a little warm smile, scartching his head - "I was awake for a while already, I was just too lazy to actualy get up"
"Is anyone else awake?" - I asked.
"When some were a little disturbed by the noise, but Suga didn't even move" - Namjoon laughed a little - "It's almost like if he was hearing a lullaby instead"
"Well he's one really heavy sleeper" - I gigled.
"GOOD MORNING, NAMJOON" - Jin said whitout realising he was screming. I guess I was right about the deafening part.
"Good morning hyung, but there's no need to scream" - Rap mon answered while covering his own ears scared of Jin's reply's decibel level.
"I guess he was a bit too close to the radio" - I giggled to my own remark.
"I heard it" - said Rap Monster laughing a little as well. He then went to the bathroom for his morning services, while I took care of Jin ears, wainting for them to stop ringing so much that it made him scream to speak. I took the radio once again in my hands and sat on the couch next to Jin. Now the volume was fixed at a very low level, I started spining the switch again. And now instead of hearing the radio's whailing screams, we could only hear a static sound. Rap Monster was already back by the time I finally found a transmitting frequency.
"Boys, I need you to do me a favor and wake the others up" - I frowned concerned as I heard what the announcements were.
"Why? what's going on?" - Jin asked.
"Why do you seem worried? With your eyebrows narrowed, your smile is gone..." - Namjoon said wearing the same expression he had just described.
"Well, remeber the snow storm yesterday?" - they both noded to which I continued - "Apparently we're kind of trapped here because of it".

Chapter 5 comment: Hey, Alex. Was re-reading. How's this sound?

Excerpt:
["Don't be weak V!" - J-Hope said dramatically stopping him in his course to my face. (That's one odd sentence there xD) - "We must ressist to her deadly charm"]

To: ["Don't be weak V!" J-Hope said dramatically (posing like some hero or General in a costumed K-drama), making V and several of the other boys who had been intent on pinching or tickling her stop in their tracks, "We must resist her deadly charm!"]

@AlexShankar

No problem. Nothing big. Was just trying to picture the scene in my head while I was reading & came to a screeching halt when the character suddenly changed in mid-stream.

@PsiWren
When V breaks and tries to run to her, J-Hope kind of holds all of the boys dramatically to stop them, so Jin is also taken by his grip, and then frees himself to run towards her. Does this help? Thanks for pointing that out, if you have any other comments please feel free to speak up :)

Excerpt:

["No! Not the puppy face! I can’t take it!" – V said already running over....

"Don't be weak V!" - J-Hope said dramatically stopping him in his course....

"Ok, I give up!" - Jin got off J-hope's grip and hugged me - "You're just too cute to resist"]

(scratching my head here) So, V ran over, J-Hope grabbed him, then Jin pulled out of J-Hope's grab? Which one was it exactly that did that? Or, did both Jin and V run over to try and pinch the main character's cheeks and J-Hope grabbed both of them?
