A K-pop Idol's Guide to Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse

Hare and the tortoise

"Do you think we can trust Kimwoo-ssi?" whispered Jungkook to me as we were milling around aimlessly in the corner.
"I don't know," I sighed. "But in this situation I guess we have to?"

"Chimchim!" I jumped as the ever enthusiastic Taehyung hopped into my legs, grinning up at me. I shook my head. "Please don't give me one of your jokes, Tae." He pouted, and instead began bugging the maknae, leaving me all alone. (Sigh.)

I took this opportunity to look around the garage. The corrugated metal door was barricaded with a couple of cardboard boxes filled with random bike and car parts and scraps of metal. Jin hyung was already sleeping, and Namjoon hyung was nodding off next to him (sweet namjin scene~ hehe~), Hoseok and Yoongi hyung were talking quietly (for once) and the Lee Kimwoo was scrolling through his phone in the corner.

To be honest, I'd rather be without him at that moment.

Probably the pitiful solitary life of an idol (apart from those Bangtan kids) had gotten to me, but I felt a lot more comfortable with just my band mates than with the stranger. I mean, he let us stay in his garage, and he recognised us (like, who wouldn't, but still) but I still didn't wholly trust him.

And in the movies, there was always that guy who went crazy and started killing everyone, humans included. Actually the whole population would go crazy and start killing each other. Making life (or rather death) for the zombies a whole lot easier.

Eventually, through the racket that Taehyung and Jungkook were now making, and the occasional grunt or moan from outside that would cause everyone to freeze and go silent until the footsteps shuffled away, I fell asleep against an old sofa.

The next morning, I woke up to Jin hyung kicking me on the butt (finally, something normal) and we talked randomly for a few more minutes before I realised I was hungry, and we were in a zombie apocalypse, and we were also in a stranger's locked garage.

"Hyung?" I poked him in the arm and he stopped babbling - I mean talking - (ow! Hyung!) and looked at me curiously. "What?"

I glanced around, and whispered, "Can we go?"

He paused, uncertain. "I'm not sure, Chimchim," he said finally. "It's somewhat safe for us here, but -"

"There's no food or water, and for that we'll need to go back to the house and we don't know whether zombies are hanging around there or not," I finished. "And I'd rather not have a stranger with us."

"He seemed okay to me," pondered Jin hyung. "But ... yeah. Hm." He trailed off and stared blankly at a wall for half an hour straight until I nudged him and he broke out of his trance. "Huh?"

"Can we go?" I repeated. "We will need to get out of here anyway."

He nodded and stood up. "I'll talk to Namjoon."

When I asked Yoongi about it, he shrugged. "I do wanna get out," he agreed, "But then we don't know what's out there."

Hoseok said the same thing. "Who knows, we could open the door and a horde of zombies would fall into here and eat us all."

That wasn't a very nice thought, to be honest.

We came to a descicion finally. We wanted to leave.

That is, we as in the seven of us.

Lee Kimwoo wanted to stay.

"I'm not going out there," he protested stubbornly. Jin hyung sighed and tried reasoning with him. "We're not going to survive forty eight hours in here, we need food, water, and eventually they will get in. We just ..." he shrugged. "We need to go out."

"But we could die!" protested Kimwoo. "I don't want to die!"

"We don't want to die too," butted in Taehyung. "That's why we want to go out."

"Whatever," piped up Jungkook suddenly. "You just need to open the door a bit and we'll leave, then you can close it right away and stay." That made Kimwoo freeze. "You'll leave?"

"If we have to, yes," agreed Namjoon. "Unless you come with us."

To be honest I didn't really want anyone else coming along with us. But I stayed quiet.

"Fine," grumbled Kimwoo. "But since I have no weapons, you'll protect me?"

I liked the man less and less every second. "Yes," Jin hyung agreed somewhat reluctantly. Kimwoo nodded, satisfied. "Okay. We leave."

A few minutes, we were packed up (with a few extra stuffs from the garage) and Taehyung whispered to me, "I don't want him to come."

"Nor do I," I agreed. "But let's go anyway. More eyes right?"

There was a small clinking as the door moved up slightly, about an inch. Jin hyung bent down to peer under, it, then straightened, gave us the okay sign, and pulled it open wide enough for us to get out - and for a zombie to get in. Not that any did. Thank god.

I darted out, a steel piping in my hands, and darted out, immediately flattening against a wall (backpack troubles ugh) and peeking out down the street and ducking back again when I saw a solitary figure stumbling around. I pulled the others around the other path, before realised I really had no idea where we were. Oh well.

Namjoon hyung took the lead, and we went down one road after the other, passing random houses, parks, and car parks. I kept up the search, looking down all the roads we passed. There had to be like, a supermarket or a convenience store somewhere right?

At one point, we walked into a pair of stray zombies and had to bat them away and shut them into a car. Admittedly, it was almost funny.

All the way, Kimwoo was being annoying.

"Is that the only weapons you have?"
"Can't you find somewhere with food?"
"I'm tired, hurry up!"

I guess there were those type of people in a zombie apocalypse.

"Ah! Hyungs!" Jungkook beckoned to us, and we saw what he was pointing at. A convenience store down a slightly larger road.

Only problem?

Twenty or so zombies were milling around aimlessly (like zombies do) and there was no way we could sneak past them without being caught.

That was also the only convenience store we had seen.

Dilema.

"What are you hanging around for?" hissed Kimwoo. "Go and get something!"

Annoyed, I snapped back , "Why don't you get something yourself?"

Jin shot me a warning look and spun his knife in his fingers while he stared at the crowd of zombies. Finally, he said, "Is there a back door to the place?"

"We could like, knock over a dustbin in the other streets and draw them there while we take stuff," offered Jungkook. Taehyung shook his head worriedly. "What if they come back?"

I sighed. "I think that's our only bet. Come on." I stood up and began sneaking away back towards the other street when Jin hyung stopped me. "Don't go alone."

Kimwoo was ordered to come with me. Not like he'll do anything useful.

"Okay, there's a bunch of those recycle bins," I said slowly, staring around the empty street. "And there's that big bin cart thingy. If we throw it at it it would make a lot of noise -"

"Why we?" said Kimwoo. "You do it."

"Fine then, you keep watch," I said carelessly, but stopped as he replied, "You can do both, can't you?"

I stared. "You're kidding me?"

He snorted. "There's something called multitasking."

I growled. "Listen here, you -" I broke off. "Fine." I tucked my pole into my belt and walked forwards, grabbing the bin thing and hauling it over to the cart thingy. (You know, the dump cart rubbish stuff they use in building sites?) Glancing around to make sure nobody was going to eat me, I braced my legs and threw it against the cart with all my manly strength. (Don't laugh Kookie!)

There was a resounding crash that echoed around the street. Success! I could already hear the zombies shuffling (alarmingly quickly) towards here.

Unfortunately, my arm was now somehow pinned between too wooden planks. I grimaced and looked towards Kimwoo. "Some help?"

After one look at the zombies now rounding the corner, the man ran away.

Sheesh. I gritted my teeth and used my pole to lever the two planks apart (maybe I should have stood a bit further away) and kicked off, jumping over the whole cart but skidding to a halt as I heard a scream before it cut off with a growl. From where Kimwoo had run.

Okay. At least I know that there are zombies there. I glanced around and dived into a small side street as a group of zombies appeared from either side and headed towards me.

After maybe another thirty seconds, I rounded another corner (after having run in about 2747583 different directions) and began running back towards the convenience store. Were they all there?

Yup.

"Chimchim!" Taehyung sprang up, grinning. "Finally, you were taking so long!" He shut the door and dragged me over. Jin breathed a sigh of relief and then looked around. "Where did the other guy go?"

"That shit abandoned me when I was trapped and ran off without a second glance," I grumbled, ignoring Jin's don't-swear look. "But then he did unintentionally warn me of zombies at the other end of the street by getting eaten."

Hoseok stared at me. "It's scary how easily you say that."

"It's like the tortoise and the hare, then," concluded Jungkook. Taehyung frowned. "But they didn't race."

"Dude runs off without helping Chimchim to save his own life, gets eaten," shrugged Jungkook. "Same thing."

I shivered. "Maknae, you're not supposed to think like that violently ..."

Notes

First death which was rather weird.
Dont think everyone will magically turn nice in the end of the world. They won't.
