Unexpected

After TOP and I arrived home from the park with Min Hyun I put him down for his nap and went to read in the living room.

I sat down on the couch, TOP sitting in the chair off to the side watching TV.

“Why do you do the same thing every day?” He asks me as he continues to look at the television.

“It’s good to keep children on a schedule to give them structure.” I say to him not taking my eyes off my book.

“I understand that, but I mean why do you always do the same thing? After you put him down for his 1:00 nap you grab the same book to read and sit on the same spot on the couch.”

“I guess I’m a creature of habit too.” I say laughing and looking up at him. “Besides there isn’t a lot for me to do. It only takes seconds to clean the house with how neat we both are. And I can’t leave the house without taking Min Hyun with me. So I read.”

“Well I think you should do stuff too. I’m here today. Why don’t you go see what Kat is up to? I can handle this.” He says to me with a smile.

“Really?” I ask a little surprised. “Ok. I’ll be back later then. Call me if you need anything.” I say setting my book down and grabbing my purse as I walk out the door.

I pull up to Kats apartment building and buzz in.

“Who are you and what do you want?” She yells into the speaker.

“It’s Maranda!” I say into it.

She didn’t respond but I heard the door unlock for me. Her door was already open for me when I walked down the hall.

“Hey.” I say to her as I set my purse down. She was sitting on the couch flipping through magazines for the store. “Anything good?” I ask as I sit next to her.

“Nothing I don’t already have.” She says closing the magazine. “Why are you here?” She asks confused.

“TOP gave me the afternoon off. Says I do the same thing every day so he wanted me to do something different.”

“Hmm.” She says as she gives me a smirk.

“Now what?”

“Nothing. How was the park?”

“Good TOP came with us today.”

“What did you guys talk about?”

“Not much. What it’s like for him being an idol. What I find as my perfect first date. Just casual stuff.”

“Uh huh.” She picked her magazine back up and began flipping through the pages again.

“What?” I ask her confused.

“Oh nothing. I’m just waiting.”

“I’m not going to believe you until something actually happens you know that right?”

“Whatever you say.”

TOP’s POV

Once Maranda left I picked up my phone and called GD. “Hey man. You busy?” I asked.

“No. What’s up?”

“I told Maranda to take the afternoon off. Can you come over? I wanted to talk to you about something.”

“Yeah. Is everything ok?”

“Yeah it’s all good. Just want to run something by you.”

We both hang up and I go back to watching TV while I wait for him to get here. Min Hyun started crying so I went to get him. Maranda had a chart of his schedule on the fridge so I walked in there with him to check it.

2:00 feeding.

I set him in his swing while I made his bottle. I saw a note on the can of baby formula from Maranda.

“Do not microwave! Run bottle under hot water. :-)”

I couldn’t help but smile at it as I filled the bottle with cold water. I put in the scoops of formula then ran the bottle under hot water.

I then hear the front door open followed by GD walking into the kitchen. “Hey. You ready to tell me what’s going on?” He asked sitting down.

“What do you think of Maranda?” I asked getting Min Hyun out of his swing. I sat down on one of the other barstools at the counter feeding him.

“She’s cool. Pretty quiet most of the time.” He then gets a worried expression. “Why? Did she do something wrong?”

“No.” I say almost laughing. “I was thinking about asking her out.” I then look up to see his expression.

“Wow.” He says surprised.

“I’m just not sure it’s a good idea. She works for me and I don’t want her to think she has to or she would lose her job or anything like that. And then there is the possibility it doesn’t work out. Then what?”

“Well, have you tried to feel her out?” He asks scratching the back of his head.

“I haven’t really had time. We have been so busy lately. I did go with her to the park today with Min Hyun though.”

“How did that go?”

“Great. We just talked. She was surprised I didn’t wear a disguise which lead us to talking about what it was like to be an Idol. It ended up leading to us talking about first dates. Her ideal first date is mini golf.” I say laughing.

“Mini golf?” He asks surprised.

“Yeah. Her reasons were pretty good actually.” I put the now empty bottle into the sink. “She doesn’t seem like the type of person that is only in it for the high life.”

“Well then I think you have your answer.” He says leaning back.

I started thinking through everything trying to make a final decision. “Yeah. I guess I do.”
