The Last Mission

Chapter Four

When they got to the hotel they were free to go anywhere they wanted. Even though they both wanted to have fun, they had to watch over the principle. His wife came along so they went to take a walk along the beach. Yoo-Jin and Zitao sat on beach chairs nearby. It was the first time that they felt comfortable with each other...because of the atmosphere. The sun was setting. It was warm. The weather was nice, but there were big storm clouds approaching them. It was quiet, and then Zitao spoke.

“Why are you such an introvert?” asked Zitao.

“What about you?” she asked.

“I asked you first,” said Zitao.

“Do you really want to know?” she asked.

Zitao smiled brightly and nodded.

“I’m an orphan; I’m guessing you are too.”

His smile faded, “Yeah.” It was silent for a while. “Keep going.”

“I actually don’t remember my childhood; all I remember was waking up from a hospital bed. My head hurt. I didn’t remember how old I was, who my parents were, or even my name. I was adopted by team leader. He was going to raise me like a normal child, but he I wasn’t. He began to train me to fight when I was eight. He home schooled me. I had no friends. I have to become one of the best agents in order to repay him for what he did for me,” she smiled, “it’s your turn.”

“Well, I was an orphan too, but I remember them, my name, and my age. My parents were also NIS agents. They were hunted down by the people that they looking for. How ironic, right?” Zitao laughed sadly. He took a deep breath, “I was in my room when those people came. I heard gunshots from downstairs. I got scared. I was about to open the door of my room but it swung open. My mom came through the door. She had a head injury. I was only five. I was about to cry, but she shushed me. She picked me up and took me and brought me up to the attic and put me in a room that I never noticed. She took off her necklace and put it around my neck. She smiled and closed the little door. ‘I love you’ is what she said. Then I heard her stack boxes against the door. I don’t remember how many days I was in there. Then I heard someone move the boxes. I clutched onto my mother’s necklace. It had a ring on it. the door opened. It was team leader.” Yoo-Jin looked at Zitao. He smiled, “yup! He took me in and trained me. I think him and my parents were close friends.”

Yoo-Jin laughed, “Then how is it that we’ve never met each other before all of this?”

Zitao shrugged. “So…how’s Tae-Ho, is there anything out of the ordinary?”

Yoo-Jin shook her head. “What about Kang-Woo?”

“He seems really strong, like he’s a good fighter. He has a lot of tattoos on his back. He acts kind but behind the scenes he’s not so nice. Do you think it’s him?”

“It could be…but, we have to make sure. Let’s report him to team leader tomorrow.”

“Okay.”

Hours passed and it was time for dinner. They both sat away from each other. Zitao started a conversation with some of the boys sitting around him. Yoo-Jin couldn’t help but eavesdrop.

“So…Hee-Joo...what’s your relationship with Min-Ah? Are you guys dating?” asked one of the boys.

Zitao laughed, “Are you serious? Why would I date her?” All the boys laughed.

Yoo-Jin felt her heartbreak. She had already had feelings for him. She tried not to show her anger. She didn’t eat. She walked out of the room towards the beach. She tried not to cry, but she couldn’t help it.

One of the boys looked at Hee-Joo’s phone and found Min-Ah’s (Yoo-Jin) number.
“Hey, why do you have her number then?” said one of the boys.

Zitao tried grabbing his phone back, but the boy pulled it back.

“Give it to me!” he yelled.

Yoo-Jin looked at the sky. It was too cloudy to see the stars. She wiped her tears. It began to rain a little. She heard someone walk up to her. She thought that it was Zitao coming to apologize to her, so she didn’t try to attack him. Instead she took out her phone pretended to play on it.

The person behind her too out a pocket knife and stabbed her in her right shoulder. Yoo-Jin screamed and grabbed the person’s arm with her left. The pain went throughout her body. The person kicked her in the stomach and pulled the knife out of her shoulder. She fell onto the sand. A rock stabbed into her shoulder. It was a man all dressed in black with a black mask. It began pouring rain. She stood up using her left arm to help herself. She grabbed a rock and swung it at him. She missed. She couldn’t see where he was he sneaked up behind her and hit her on the head with the handle of the knife. She fell again laying on her back breathing hard. The man ran away. She was losing consciousness. She tried finding her phone. She had dropped it earlier. It was a few feet away. She dragged herself to it then called Zitao.

Zitao’s phone rang. One of the boys looked at it. “Hey! She’s calling!”

“Who,” Zitao asked. It was Min-Ah (Yoo-Jin). He just looked at his phone.

“Aren’t you gonna answer?”

“Yeah, we wanna see what you relationship is like.”

Zitao didn’t answer. Yoo-Jin tried getting up, but she was too weak. She was, for the first time in a long time, scared.

Yoo-Jin tried dragging herself to the beach chairs. Her wound hurt like crazy and she had already bled a lot. The pain in her right shoulder was the only thing keeping her awake. She felt exhausted as if she ran a marathon. She pulled herself onto the beach chair that was under an umbrella to shield her from the rain. Her breathing slowed. Everything blurred then went pitch black.
