But You Love Me

Why am I here? I know he’s not gonna come, the whole thing to him is a joke. I sigh focussing back on my book, reading the next line. While reading, out of the corner of my eye a person sits down on my table. Not looking up I think about all the other tables that are empty. Why don’t you just go there. Then a little part of me hopes it’s an attractive boy who has suddenly found me attractive. “Yah.” I thought too soon, I look up to see Yoongi staring at me. Then it’s just silence. He stares at me as if I don’t feel awkward about from it, which I want to emphasise I DID feel. Is it my clothes? I mean I thought this was appropriate attire for a study session. Wait, why does it matter to him? I decide to break the silence so I close my book and sit up in my seat. I open my mouth to speak but he interrupts me by saying, “my aunt made me come.” I close my mouth and think for a response.
“I-I didn’t think that you wouldn’t come.”
“Don’t lie.”
I feel so awkward and pushed into a corner with this weird conversation that I take a while to reply.
“I’m not, i’m glad you came… really.”
My heart suddenly races after the silence starts again I look at him waiting for a response but all I get is a startling response of, “what?!”
“Let’s fine a subject for you to start with.”
“I’m not gonna study. I’ll just stay here so Miss Yang and aunt believe i’m doing work.”
I stifle a laugh in awe at his attitude. All this awkwardness I know for sure comes from the fact that to about everyone, we are supposed to be strangers. But basically no one is here. Seeing no familiar faces around the library, I lean forward over the table closer to Yoongi. “Isn’t that embarrassing?” He looks me up and down as if to say something were wrong with me.
“Embarrassing?” He says confused.
“Having such low grades.” I say simply. His face turned into a death stare but I don’t flinch. “I mean if I were you i’d-“ I’m cut off when he leans forward forcing me to sit back in my chair again. Surprised I sit back in silence noticing his expression is telling me to stop acting so non-chalant. I fold my arms in slight protest. We used to be so close, I mean I probably know more about him than the “Bulletproof Boys” do. “Fine, just one book.” I say standing up and gesturing him to follow me. He slumps on and on through aisles as I go through what is my sunshine filled meadow. So much knowledge in such silence is so intriguing to me. I find a book I found useful before in the history section. I smile at my choice made and reach, and reach, and reach for it. I can’t grab it, it’s too high. Either that or I got shorter. I see a hand from behind me quickly grab the book I need. I lower myself to flat feet and turn to thank them but i’’m confronted by a face. I breath faster realising it’s Yoongi, only centimetres from my face holding the book I was reaching for. We met eyes and I get so lost we seem to stay there forever. I break the awkward breathing and staring by saying,”what are you doing?” Feeling my heartbeat’s rapid pace I know I need to leave this situation, now. “I was getting your book, what do you think i’m- are you blushing?” His voice breathes on my face like a light wind. My eyes widen and I cover my cheeks with my hands. “Umm… session over. You can use the book. I… need to go.” I say stuttering and run back to our table grabbing my bag and books and running as quickly as I can. I keep running, even when I know i’m far enough away. Why? Because my heart won’t slow down, even walking doesn’t change it. I can’t be actually liking him? No no no. I run some more as the wind passes my face reminding me more of the awkward situation. His voice echoes in my head.
