Slaughter House

I looked around the bus to see where each of these pests were placed around the small bus we were in and I was glad there was no one directly next to or in front of Yoogeun and my seat. About two benches in front of ours was that plastic Barbie Mina with her annoying boyfriend Sanghoon. They were practically eating their faces off and it disgusted me to the max. Mina was one of the smartest and prettiest girls in the class and probably even the entire grade. Pretty much everyone knew this but she continuously boasted about it in a less friendly way. She was -- as stated before -- rich. In fact, she was born rich and famous. But that was not a reason to not be disliked by many. I was a part of those many people.

Next comes Sanghoon. Oh how I hated that man. He tried to… let’s just say ‘make inappropriate advances’… on me and assumed once too many times that I liked him and wanted to kiss him… yeah, let’s keep at that. Anyway, it was extremely gross, especially after what I heard about him… Ugh! Ever since then, he had been trying to humiliate me in every way possible. I don’t even know what made him look my way since I was basically a wallflower. He probably had no one to annoy.

The vehicle then turned right towards a more shadowy area. An area which looked like it belonged to someone.

“Alright students, listen up! This here is China Senadale. This once belonged to Lord Broll during the second World War. After his death, his son Lord Dermont took over the place,” Daewon explained.

“But professor! We don’t even know any of them! How are they even influenced?” Good question, Lemon Head. For once you aren’t reinforcing the blonde stereotype.

“They are not influenced politically or through the media. They are more like scientists and people of nature. They are also the founder of a couple organizations that deal with forest preservation and with safe nuclear production. One of their latest projects is transferring energy from one matter to another,” he said.

“Professor,” said Mina’s nasty high-pitched voice. “Not to sound rude or anything, but you do know none of us are science students, right?” She giggled, even though there was nothing to giggle about. But she was right. None of us were from the science department. Both Sanghoon and Mina were BBA students and the rest were studying either literature and drama or foreign cultures education, except me. I was studying French-literature, meaning it had nothing to do with forests and natural belongings to Earth.

“That is true, Miss Song. However, the current Lord has been hoping to recruit some new people into his organization. Lord Dermont himself made the questions to see who would qualify and it seems all of you who are present at the moment had succeeded.”

That had definitely caught my attention. Why had such a known person -- according to professor Daewon -- came to search our university and not any better ones and if he had, he would have surely found much more qualified people to recruit. And if he had indeed gone to other universities and had found other people, where were they? I slightly shook my head. They were most probably going to come a time different than us. I was surely just letting this ‘chosen’ thing get to my head and create improbable scenarios and situations.

To my side, I slightly noticed Yoogeun notice what I had noticed. This guy sure was something else. He seemed to notice all I noticed and vice-versa. But he never seemed to notice me noticing him.

The bus drove on and the mood in the bus turned back to normal. Normal meaning noisy, disturbing, and seeing sights I would prefer not to see. I suddenly heard Boyeong -- aka Lemon Head, one of Mina’s few followers -- laugh like a demented freak. Beside her was Dongjoo, her new boyfriend. He was a star on the soccer team at school and almost everyone admired him for his talent, and I have to admit, even I thought he was impressive on the field. But all my respect for him flew right out the window when he started dating Boyeong. At the moment, they were so close to each other you wouldn’t even know they were two different people. In other words, they were a pain for my eyes. Call me jealous, but just to tell you I would never be jealous of people like them. Ever.

I laid my head on the window as I was feeling slightly tired. I didn’t care if someone decided to draw all over my face like last time or take a picture of me snoring and drooling. I didn’t even know why they were after me in the first place. I never saw them bother anyone else other than me. Well, they do bother others but it doesn’t go any further than insults being thrown back and forth like tennis balls. In my case, it was bullying. I’m afraid I will someday be physically assaulted. And so, I fell into a deep slumber.
