Slaughter House

The bus was about to depart while I -- the girl standing apart from the others -- just observed them. Why was I wasting my time here? Why was I watching the three girls and four boys, and our teacher? I just wanted to stay away from them all as much as possible. Not that I hated my teacher or classmates... on second thought, I hated my classmates.

“Come on, students! Please enter the bus!” our teacher Daewon called. We all headed towards the bus when Mina ‘accidently’ walked over my foot causing me to trip and land on the ground with a loud thud. The others ignored me and just walked over my pitiful self while Mina just looked back at me and winked at me teasingly. By her side was Sanghoon who chuckled and simply watched the show. I kept my anger inside me and tried not to let it out, knowing it would only encourage them further. As I attempted to stand up without showing as much reaction as possible, a hand reached out in front of me. I took it knowing who it was and hopped on the awaiting bus.

“Thank you, Professor Daewon,” I thanked with a monotonous voice. In return, he gave me an understanding smile, knowing that I was annoyed at those morons. Daewon was a smart man, not too old, but not stupid either. He was in fact too young to be our fully fledged teacher. There was an age difference of around six or seven years between us, and I was only 19.

I walked down the corridor in between the seats and took one of the free back seats with a boy who was just as miserable as I -- Yoogeun -- fat and avoided. Not that he cared about girls or his looks, he just didn't have anyone to be friends with and by the aura he was emitting, he was just as displeased with having to be here as I was.

When everyone was comfortable with their seats, the professor sat up front with the driver who had now started driving. What is this trip you may ask? Well...

Professor Daewon suddenly had an interest to take us somewhere... though we still didn't know for what reason. He told us that our destination was a place where one would normally have to pay over $1000 to go, which in my opinion is pretty expensive. What’s more, he even said that even if some people payed, a good number of them would still not be allowed to enter and their money would be returned. Long story short, it was a secretive private property that only members of a certain group of people ‘they’ considered worthy of entering could enter the land. However, we still don't know the name of the place or what we were going there for other than the trip. Daewon said it was to be a surprise.

And how exactly did we -- three of the most popular girls and three of the most popular guys with two additional people who usually went completely unnoticed -- end up here? Well Daewon had held a test for our whole class, saying that the ones who passed would receive a special prize from the school authority. Who knew that my prize would be a trip with these pests? About the test, the questions were pretty awkward. Questions that asked about about our daily lives and our knowledge about psychology. I'm surprised that these bimbos passed as well.

But even if we passed, how could our parents let us go? You see, since Professor Daewon didn’t tell us where we were going, he talked to each of our parents whose child had passed but the conversations were held without the children themselves. I don't know about the others, but I tried to eavesdrop and the only word I heard was ‘china’. I thought that we were probably going to go to China or that we were probably going to a touristy area with a Chinese theme, though why would we go there? My researches were deemed unsuccessful. I tried reasoning with my parents not to go using the excuse of my trip mates whom I pretty much hated, but they didn't change their opinion. In fact, they were strangely so convinced to send me away that I thought to have seen a glint of pride in their eyes... as if... as if I was going to achieve the greatest thing in the world.
