That night, I looked through the book, and found it to be very interesting. It spoke about a lot of things that were new to me, like several powers and types of power I was not aware of. I hadn’t realized that the Fae and a planet by the name of Zybria had been connected several years back. That was interesting. It brought my power of fire to mind, and I started wondering why it had been banned to use on Earth. Was there something wrong with fire? How was it any worse than any other power. The next morning when he got to my house, Daeil pointed to his cheek. “Kisu, I think there was something to the potion I bought yesterday. My bruises are completely gone, and they don’t hurt…does this sound stupid to you?” He bit his lip, staring at me.
I grinned. He had just opened the door for a conversation on powers and magic. How ironic and convenient. “No, I don’t think it sounds stupid. You have to see what I found in this book.” We started looking through the book, and spent the entire afternoon studying it and talking about powers and the possibility of them. It was also strange to both of us that the Fae Realm and this planet, Zybria, had cut ties. We were beginning to think that there must be some truth to all of this.
When we had been studying it for a while, I turned to Daeil. “Hey…how do you feel about fire? I know it is a banned power…” I was nervous about his answer.
Daeil smiled at me, lying back on my bed. I tried to keep my mind on the subject. It’s not like he hadn’t done it before. “I think it’s just another power, and I think people were stupid to ban it. I think it’s very cool. I wish I had a more cool power,” he looked at me. “I have a lame one…I can do is duplicate myself. Woo!” He waved his hands in the air dramatically. “It wouldn’t be very useful in a fight. Fire would be. Honestly, I don’t think it should be banned. I think people are just afraid of it.”
I nodded, feeling good about his answer. “Well…I don’t think a power of duplication is useless. It could be used, and I like it. What do you say we go back to that shop in the mall? We could look at some other potions and see what the guy there says about powers.” I raised my eyebrows.
Daeil stretched back on the bed, his body twisting in ways that started to heat me up…again. Damn kid. I had to remind myself that he is only fourteen. “That sounds good to me.”
I nodded, then changed my shirt. “Okay. I’m going to go tell my mom, and maybe she can drop us off there.”
My mom dropped us off at the mall, and we spent the remainder of the afternoon in the shop.
After we had been there for a while, we saw Daeil’s adoptive brother, Seokjun, enter. He smiled at u, then walked over to some of the books. I made a mental note to catch him later and ask him about magic and see what he thought of the book we had. As we were leaving, I noticed him moving over to the counter and talking to the creepy owner guy. I found it strange that he had not taken anything over with him to buy it. That was strange.
We left the shop to go catch a bite to eat at the food court. After eating real food, we ordered some pretzels and two ice cream cones. Sweet and salty…which brought other thoughts to mind. In light of that, I didn’t watch Daeil as he ate, especially the ice cream.
When we got back to my house, I mentioned him staying over. He could go to school with me the next day, and that way, we would be together if the tormentors decided to take any revenge on us for Friday.
Once in my room, I closed the door and turned to Daeil. Placing my hand on his side, I ran it up, taking the shirt up with it. I heard him suck in his breath, and he looked into my eyes.
