Just A Number

Jungkook and I were both sitting on the floor at the table as his father was fixing us some tea. I would have never guessed his father was pretty old, his hair and circle beard were silver greys, he had some wrinkles on his face and some aging spots, he looks like he’s in his early 60’s. “Yuna,” Jungkook glanced at me keeping his voice low, “Don’t mention about the pregnancy to my father, not just yet okay?” I slowly nodded my head, I wonder why he doesn’t want to tell his father that I’m pregnant…is he ashamed?



“Ah, here it is,” his father enters the small cramp living room with a tray of tea. “Thank you very much,” I smiled. He slowly got on his knees to sit crossed legged at the table, “Careful dad.” Jungkook says eyeing his father nervously, “I’m fine, I’m fine,” his father chuckles, “I may be old but there are some things I can still do.” He gave us both a warm smile which made me smile back, he’s such a cute old man!

“How are you, both? You must be tired from your trip all the way here?” “We’re doing okay dad, well, it could be better?” “Oh?” he looks up sipping his tea, “Pretty much the whole world just found out Yuna and I are dating…so we left Seoul to have things cool down a bit. I just want to protect her from the media and maybe some crazy fans.” “I see,” his father rubs his silver beard nodding, “Well please, stay as long as you like, I know how the world can be a scary and an ugly place. I want you two to be safe psychically and mentally.” “Thank you, dad.” Jungkook half smiled holding onto my hand.

“So, Ms. Kang, you certainly seem like a lovely person, can you tell me about yourself?” “Oh, uh yes sir, well I’m from Seoul born and raised, I work as a makeup artist which is how I met Jeongguk sir,” “Ah, it’s probably meant to be,” he laughs. “I always wanted Jeongguk to have a girlfriend, all his life he’s been so shy. He didn’t have a lot of friends here growing up,” “Okay DAD!” Jungkook covers his face with his hands, which made me giggle.



“I’ve always been so worried for him, him being by himself in that big city, I’m always thinking about him, his safety and his health, training for long periods of time. I know he can take care of himself since he’s been doing it since he was little due to my job but I’m just glad to know a person like you is there for him.” He smiles nodding his head.

We spent most of the afternoon to evening talking about ourselves, our past, stories of Jungkook when he was a child, it was such a great atmosphere. I was finally growing exhausted even though it was just 8:30 pm, pregnancy was sure kicking my ass but of course, I can’t let his father know that. “Yuna jagi, are you tired, would you like to go to bed?” Jungkook puts his arm on my shoulder as I yawned, “Jeongguk-ah she can sleep in your bedroom your bed and everything is still there.” Jungkook helps me get up and guides me to his old bedroom which was pretty small too, unlike the one in his luxurious apartment.

His room was pretty much a regular boys room, posters of anime characters on his wall, a small desk with some books on it, a single bed lined up against his wall and a dresser in the corner. “Sorry, my room is tiny, you sleep here on the bed, I’ll sleep on the floor.” “Are you sure?” “Yes jagi, I need you to be comfortable as much as possible, especially for the baby.” he smiles caressing my face.

Jungkook kept me company as I dressed into my pajamas, “Will you be okay here for a while? I’m going back out to hang out with my dad Yuna.” He tucks me in, “Yes I’m fine,” “You don’t feel sick our anything?” “No,” I giggled, “Okay, well just yell out my name if you need me okay?” He leans down to kiss my forehead, he got up to walk to the door but paused, “Yuna?” he says with his back still towards me, “I’m…sorry about all of this. I promise…I will fix it, don’t worry about anything, I will protect you…I will protect us.”
