Chapter 6

To no surprise, rain poured from the skies during the quidditch game. Even with my hair up, it whips at my face as I search for the snitch. We were at a tie right now, James and Henry weren’t the steadiest, Arthur having sent bludgers at them multiple times. I duck as one rockets at me, skimming across my back. The rain had made my skin numb so I quickly flex my fingers around my broom. Moving to another spot in the pitch, my eyes follow Wonwoo, who is protecting his team members from both stray and aimed bludgers.

Movement catches my attention and I curse at the absolutely insane beater that was hurtling at me, his bat held as if he was going to hit me. Jetting across the pitch, I’m not fast enough and the bludger slams into the middle of my back, causing me to lose my breath for a solid minute. Wonwoo pulls up next to me, nearly shouting “Are you okay?” The wind howling around us. I wave the question away and nod, gasping for breath. “Go protect your team.” I yell back as soon as I have the breath and turn to look at the game around us. “Hufflepuff at one-hundred twenty to one-hundred and fifteen. How are the seekers doing? Not a hint of golden snitch at all.” Whoever was commentating for the match says and I sigh in frustration. I was so busy dodging bludgers that I hadn’t had a chance to properly look for the snitch. Gold flashes and without thinking, I’m slicing through the curtains of rain. The snitch flies straight over Arthur’s shoulder and I dive. A thrill goes through me at the terror on his face when he realizes I’m going straight to him without slowing down. I even hear a shrill scream when I streak past him, making me grin. The Slytherin seeker appears and slams into my shoulder, trying to get me to run into one of the spectator towers. Like hell I was going to let him. As if my broom knew, it shoots forward and I snatch the snitch from the air, the whistle piercing the cheering.

A moment later a bludger barrels into my shoulder, the momentum making my broom flip over and aim towards the ground. I recognize Eve’s scream over the others and struggle to pull up, the rain making it near impossible. I pull up feet from the ground and quickly dismount my broom, sucking in a breath as the others land around me. “You alright there Yuki?” My captain appears, his face showing concern. “It’s alright, it’s not like someone hit the bludger on purpose.” I force a chuckle. I glance at Madam Hooch, who is returning the balls to their box. “Either way, we won!” I exclaim and the rest of the team cheers. “Let’s go in, we’re getting soaked.” James says and I don’t add that we were already soaked. Trudging back up to the castle behind the crowds, I wave to the others and go up to the hospital wing instead of the common room. Madam Pomfrey is standing next to an infirmary bed scolding a student that was covered in boils when she notices me. “Quidditch was it? Any broken bones? Sprains?” “I was hoping to get a pain tonic. I was hit pretty hard with a bludger a few times.” I explain and she nods, bustling to her office and I follow her. “It is a miracle there were no broken bones this game. It happens at least once every match.” She babbles, searching through a cupboard. She comes over to me with a glass filled with dark purple liquid. “This should do it. If it still hurts in a couple of hours, come back to see me.” Downing the liquid, I thank her and leave the hospital wing, my soaked robes leaving a trail of water behind me.

Going back to the Hufflepuff basement, I’m met with the sound of chatter and find the room completely filled with students from all of the houses. They all sported steaming mugs of hot chocolate and the crowd parts as I go to my dorm room, water rolling off of my skin. Sneezing, I take a hot shower and pull my uniform on before going out. “Yuki, good job!” Hao immediately says, sweeping me up into a hug. “Thanks.” I giggle into his shirt and he steps back. Seokmin appears and pushes a mug into my hands. “The whole team’s bad mouthing Arthur because he was literally aiming to hurt all of you seriously. Like that last bludger? That was him! Not a lot of people saw it because they just wanted to get back to the castle, but we saw it. It was absolutely terrifying!” I grin and hands slide around my waist and go across my stomach, a chin resting on top of my head. I ignore him but enjoy the warmth that was coming from his body. The rain had chilled me to the bone and I was trying to keep my teeth from chattering. His grip tightens and he presses his chest into my back as if he could feel how cold I was. “Think about how terrifying it was for me though!” I smile at Seokmin. “He doesn’t pull his swings. He hit that bludger so hard that I nearly fell off of my broom!” They both wince at the idea. “We just have to be more careful of him next match.” I shrug and take a big gulp of the hot chocolate. “I hope Madam Hooch scolds him.” Hao grumbles before grabbing my hand and pulling me out of Jun’s arms and pulling me out of the common room. I’m immediately cold, having left my robes in my room. The castle was brightly lit but the stone walls emitted waves of cold. “Where are we going?” I ask, hearing two pairs of feet behind us. “The hospital wing.” I stare at him as he continues walking. “I already went!” “Well you need to go again. When I hugged you, you winced in pain.” “No I didn’t.” I protest and he throws me a stern look.

I groan as he pulls me into the hospital room, Madam Pomfrey eyeing us from her office. “Again? Are you still in pain? It hasn’t been two hours yet.” “My friends are worried about me.” I explain and shoot Hao a glare. “Well, there’s nothing I can do about that. But step behind that screen and take off your shirt for me. I’ll check on your injuries to placate them.” She smiles kindly, motioning to the screen in the corner of the hospital wing. Going behind it, I unbutton my shirt and pull it off along with my tie. The moment Madam Pomfrey peeks around the screen, she lets out a gasp. “Oh my.” My eyes are on the ground as she comes around the screen fully. I knew how many scars covered my back. I didn’t need her to remind me. “I assume the bludgers made those ugly bruises. Who hit them?” She asks, all business as she gently prods at them. “Arthur Mogrin. That big Slytherin brute.” Madam Pomfrey nods. “I can understand why they hurt so much then. He is quite bulky. The tonic I gave you early wasn’t nearly strong enough to eradicate the pain. You can get dressed while I go and mix you another one.” I thank her and she hurries into her office.

“So how bad is it?” Jun’s head pops around the screen and I quickly cover my chest with my crumpled up shirt. “Ya!” Hao’s voice echoes and Jun is dragged away from the screen. I giggle, buttoning up my shirt and putting my tie back on before going out to them. Hao was grinding his knuckles into Jun’s head and my laugh draws their attention. “You guys are such kids.” Seokmin’s sunshine smile appears. “Of course we are. Don’t you love it?” Before I can answer, Madam Pomfrey comes out of her office, an aquamarine colored liquid in a corked vial. “I want you to eat something before taking this. No buts.” I take the vial and walk with the boys back down to the Hufflepuff basement corridor. I flash Jun a grin as I lead them down to the kitchens, Cotton immediately greeting me. “Miss Yuki Park! More crepes?” I crack a smile and shake my head. “Did you have any meat pies? I need something to fill my stomach so I can take a tonic.” Her ears flop as she vigorously nods. “Right away miss! Did misters Wen, Xu and Lee want anything?” “Uh,” Their faces go blank. “What I always get.” Seokmin winks and I shake my head before saying, “Whatever you think they will like. Thank you Cotton.” I smile at her and bring them to the tables in the corner. “Don’t you guys come down here at all?” I direct the question at Minghao and Jun. They shake their heads. “Usually girls just give me food.” Jun repeats what he’d said last week. “M-me too.” Hao mumbles, looking down at his hands. “Here you are miss and misters! If you need anything, please call me!” Cotton squeaks and runs off.

“Isn’t it nice down here?” I ask through a mouthful of meat pie. “Ya, don’t talk with our mouth full.” Jun says, much to the smile on his lips. “Why not?” I continue and he rolls his eyes. “It’s gross.” I snort and finish the meat pie, glad that the kitchens were so ungodly warm. Uncorking the vial, I swirl the blue colored liquid before pouring it down my throat. I nearly choke as it burns, leaving me coughing. Cotton appears with a mug of water and I quickly gulp it down, thanking the house elf between breathes. “Taste bad?” Hao asks, worry on his face. “No, it tasted fine. It just felt like it was burning my throat. Like, ten times worse than vodka.” I cough and realize they’re all staring at me. “What, you didn’t actually think I spent time at my old school just studying, did you?” “Well, yeah.” Seokmin mutters and I can’t help but grin. “Surprise,” I splay my fingers out. “I’m not innocent.” The boys immediately crack up and I start on another meat pie. Their laughter was so contagious that it made me feel better instantly.

“Hey guys. I think Madam Pomfrey forgot to tell me about a side effect.”

I murmur, my fingers having stopped moving and they immediately stop laughing. “What is it? What’s wrong?” “I can’t move.” Hao’s jaw drops. “You can’t, move?” “I can talk. For some stupid reason. I can like, feel stuff. But I really can’t move.” It’s silent before Jun asks “So how are you going to get to your room? We can’t bring you in there. What about your dorm mates?” “Hanna said she was going to the Ravenclaw dorms and Alice took Nina to a party somewhere in the castle. No one’s there.” There’s silence. I groan and the boys sigh. “So we have to debate on whose room you sleep in.” Seokmin murmurs and I make a noise of agreement.
