The Last Unicorn

Part 1

Yixing was covered in a thick, rough woolen blanket. It felt warm, but rough on his skin. Around him, he was surrounded by a mass of people that looked so strange to him. Most of them have shorn hair, some have strange colors to their hair, some have earrings, way too many have something on their hands that they keep looking down on as if their lives depend on it. It was a little rectangular object with flashing lights and emits strange sounds. He noted that some even have strings connected from the rectangular object to their ears.

"Okay, Name please!" A strange man with a scowling face barked at him.

"Yixing." He replied politely, stood up and gave 90-degree bow. The stranger looked at him dispassionately and indicated that he should sit down again.

"Where are you from and who should we call to pick you up?" The stranger asked him tiredly.

Yixing looked at him blankly. Should he tell this stranger that he is from Pateris, he is actually a golden unicorn that the Queen has turned human and sent thru some sort of portal? That's not a good idea. What should he say?

"Officer, Officer....sorry. I am late. He my nephew. I am responsible for him. Sorry. Sorry."

Yixing turned around to find an old man who strangely enough looked a bit like his human form. Out of politeness, Yixing stood up and gave a formal bow to the older man. Which earned him a painful pinch on his ear.

"Didn't I tell you no go out! No drink alcohol? You go crazy?" The old man yelled loudly.

Yixing could not reply. His sensitive ears are starting to hurt and he could suddenly feel a strange warmth emanating from his hands. The old man just as suddenly let his ears go and grabbed his wrist. The old man just looked him in the eye and shook his head.

"Officer, are you going to charge him with something? Can I take my nephew home now?" The old man was addressing the police officer at this time. Yixing was rubbing his abused ear with his free hand. Unfortunately, this meant that the blanket covering him fell down leaving him naked in the middle of a crowded room. Giggles erupted around the room.

"Oh for fucks sake !!! Take him away! I will let him off with a warning this time. And for godsakes! Put some clothes on him!" The officer yelled at them.

The old man hurriedly covered up Yixing and repeatedly bowed at the officer. Yixing automatically bowed, not really knowing why. He was soon being dragged by the old man who surprisingly had a strong grip on his wrist.

"Come on Yixing. Hurry. We have to talk but not here. I have to tell you the last instructions the Queen managed to give me before the Dragon Arc portal closed." The old man was muttering under his breath. Yixing' ears perked up. His Queen didn't abandon him.

The old man hurriedly opened a door to a small vehicle and instructed him to get in. The old man drove really fast without regard to other vehicles and their driver. Yixing was clutching at the strap on his chest in fear. Around them, other people were shouting, honking horns and glaring at the old man as he wove the tiny vehicle around traffic. The old man slammed on the brakes, turned off the engine and got out of the vehicle. Yixing finally let out the breath he was holding.

"Get out and follow me."

Yixing got out of the vehicle. His legs felt shaky. Just like it did when he was still a new born foal. He followed the old man to the side of a brick building, down a flight of stairs, inside a room that looked clean, bare and slightly dark. The only source of lighting was a small window set high up on the wall with a clear view of the street above.

Without much thought, Yixing held out his hand and produced a candle that suddenly had a bright flame flickering on it.

"Well that didn't take too long." The old man grumpily snorted when he saw the candle. "Stop that!" The old man walked over to the door and flicked at something on the wall and a soft white light flooded the room.

"Blow out the flame before you start a fire."

There was hardly anything in the room Yixing noted. A Table, two chairs, a small bed pushed near the wall under the lone window, an empty shelf, a small box, there was a tiny sink on another wall with a counter built into it. There was a smaller door on the other wall.

"That one leads to the bathroom. Here, wear these for now." The old man handed him some folded clothing. "Go in there and put these on, then come out and sit on that chair so we can talk."

Yixing hurriedly complied. It felt strange putting on clothing on his body. The queen never even puts saddle on him. Only humans in Pateris bother putting on clothing, and even they do not wear this strange outfits.

He came out of the bathroom and sat down on the chair, his feet hurt. His hooves are gone and this ones are too soft. He doesn't like it. He put one of his foot behind his leg and started rubbing it. He saw the old man watching and smiling.

"It feels strange doesn't it? I felt the same way a hundred years ago when the queen sent me here. I am Zhoumi, I was once a blue dragon on Pateris. I breathed fire and ice which made me so rare that the Enchantess wanted to have me. Here you can call me uncle. By any world or standard, I am still your elder. I am also you guardian in this world."

Zhoumi flicked his wrist and suddenly a stack of papers was on the table infront of Yixing.

"These are what you need to get started on your quest in this world. I am sorry but my powers here are more limited than yours. You have more magic than I do. That is called an ID, these are passports, money, and those are called immigration documents."

"You have probably already noted that this world speaks a different language than what the humans speaks in Pateris. It is called English. Some of us speak chinese since it is an older language, a language we have handed down to humans in this world ages ago." Zhoumi stated.

"Now for the queen's last message for you....." Zhoumi began, Yixing perked up as he said this.

"The Queen told me to tell you these exact words"

Find the Keeper of the Heart
She is sassy and she is smart
But in her lies the key
To that which you want to see
A world of endless wonder
Or a world ripped asunder
For she is that rare flower
That gives you power

Yixing looked at Zhoumi with a puzzled frown. "She? who is she?"

Zhoumi smiled with benevolence at the younger man. "Only you would know. I found mine a hundred years ago. Why do you think I still exist?"
