Innocent Love ♥

Rival

=== MINJI'S POV (FIRST PERSON) ===
Moonbin, with chopsticks still in one hand, made his way toward Sanha and I. Before he could come any closer, Sanha pulled me behind him and blocked Moonbin's way.

"Suzy! I'll protect you! Don't try to do anything wrong!" Sanha exclaimed, puffing his chest out. I couldn't help but smile. Moonbin laughed out loud, making my brother cross his arms.

"Is he your boyfriend? He looks too young."

"Moonbin, meet my brother, Sanha. Sanha, this is my classmate who skips school all the time."

"Oh! Really?" Sanha turned around to whisper in my ear. "Eunwoo should be your boyfriend so don't flirt around with everyone!" He giggled and playfully punched my shoulder. Before I could smack the living daylights out of him, he ran off toward our house.

"I'll see you at home, noona!" he shouted in the distance. During Sanha's short performance, Moonbin watched us while sucking on his chopsticks.

"So, Moonbin, what have you been up to?" I asked, still facing the direction Sanha ran off to in hopes that I could catch a glimpse of him and shoot him down with my laser eyes.

"I take classes with Mr. Um in the evening and work at a cafe over the weekend. I'm keeping up with my schoolwork and getting money. I'm actually doing okay."

"Mr. Um?" *flashback to that one time Moonbin actually came to school and Mr. Um saw him and walked straight out of the classroom to be with the rest of the students in the hallway*

"He gives me the homework for the day and teaches me whatever I don't know. Mr. Um is actually nice to me." After a while of talking about "what have you been doing", I purchase a meat bun and sit with him at the plastic tables outside to talk even more. There was a hungry silence before my curiosity got the best of me.

"Uh, can you tell me about what happened between you and Eunwoo?" I asked, staring at my bread. From the corner of my eye, I saw him laugh a bit.

"Heh, I guess he hasn't told you yet." He cleared his throat. "Back then, Eunwoo and I were... pretty good friends. You could even consider us brothers because we were always together. One day, we met a girl... She joined our little group and so the three of us became the 'unstoppable' trio. And soon, Eunwoo grew feelings for her... and she grew... feelings... for me..." His voice trailed off with his train of thought. Wow, it's the classic love triangle again.

"If you don't want to talk about it, we can talk about something else." I mentioned.

"It's alright. I should just... let it all out. She was like... a sister to me. I didn't want a 'romantic' kind of relationship her like Eunwoo did so..."

"So you rejected her?"

"Basically. But looking back... I guess I was... too harsh... she... so she... " Moonbin started to tear up. He set his chopsticks to the side and buried his face in his hands. I ran back into the store and came back out to give him the tissue and water I just bought. Through his whimpers, I could make out the repeated "sorry" and "too mean to you" as if he were talking to someone else. I stood behind him and patted his back. Once he calmed down and finished wiping his wet cheeks, he made a weak smile at me.

"This is the second time you caught me crying, Suzy."

"Don't worry, Moonbin. I got your back." Once I said that, he stood up from his chair and hugged me. Surprised, I just stood there with arms dangling on my side.

"I hope you'll be my friend no matter what," he whispers, "because that would mean the whole world to me." My chest started to ache and my face felt hot. Maybe I was feeling his pain, too.

The convenience store door opens and one of the workers pop outside. He said, "Kids, public displays of affection isn't for school but it shouldn't be here either."

Embarrased, I gently shove Moonbin off of me and start to pack my things and finish my bun. "I'm heading home now. Bye, Moonbin-"

"Do you want me to walk you there?" he asked, nervously brushing his hands off his pants. "It's getting late."

"It's fine. Thank you for offering though. You should head home, too."

"Eh. I'm going to hang around here for a bit."

"Bye then! Hope to see you at school soon!" I shouted, walking off.

"You, too!"

I guess Moonbin prefered those night classes because I only spotted him at that convenience store once in a while. Sanha would sometimes join our conversation before heading home first. It was nice to have someone to chat with outside the school. After all, school was all work and drama. It's a shame that he and Eunwoo weren't friends anymore.

"Suzy! Let's walk to the library together!" Eunwoo happily said. It's finally Friday and school had ended. Unfortunately for us, midterms were coming up. It became a routine for the past few weeks to stay after school to study with him. Sometimes, Rocky and Sohyun join us if they aren't on a date and MJ and JinJin, our beloved seniors, buy us some snacks to "boost our memory".
We sat at our usual spot by the window and opened our books. For the next hour, we discussed about all the boring school subjects. For the first time ever, while doing our homework, Eunwoo fell asleep on his AP Calculus textbook. Because the sunlight disturbed him, I opened one of my notebooks and prop it up so it would block the light out for him.

"Psst! Yoon Suzy!" I turn around to see Yoojung, one of the class presidents, hiding behind a shelf, motioning me to come to where she was quietly. I carefully stood up, making sure my chair didn't make a sound to disturb Eunwoo. Once I was within her reach, she grabbed me by the hand and sprinted out of the library. We were in the barren hallway, surrounded by the sea of blue lockers and torn school posters.

"Hey. What do you need from me?" I didn't know Yoojung that well, so it was a definite surprise when she knew my name. I did recall her helping me break up Eunwoo's and Moonbin's fight four or so months back.

"I need you to stop hanging out with Eunwoo-oppa." Eunwoo? Eunwoo-oppa?

"Um, why?" How do you stop hanging out with someone you literally see everyday?

"Because you don't deserve him. I do. We're fated to be together so you should get your nasty face out of here and go look for Moonbin." Moonbin?

"Again, why?"

"You and Moonbin belong with each other just like Eunwoo and I."

"What if Eunwoo doesn't like you back?" I couldn't help but smile. I knew Eunwoo would never like this kind of girl. In addition to that, he never mentioned Yoojung in all of our conversations. Yoojung gaped before lashing her tongue back at me.

"What if he does? I've been with him longer than you have so you should back off!"

"I don't think Eunwoo would like to see you acting like this." I need to keep my cool.

"Ugh! Does that even matter right now? I need you," she roughly poked my shoulders, "to stay *poke* away *poke* from *poke* him." I stumble a bit but I still keep my balance.

"YAH!" I shove her hand off, trying to refrain myself from punching her. "If Eunwoo dates you, I'll leave the both of you alone." That's never going to happen, though.

"Deal." She snapped her fingers. "If you date Moonbin, I can have Eunwoo all to myself!"
(side note: deal can also be said as 'call' )

Like that's ever going to happen. "Deal." I replied. She stormed off down the hallway, chin up, in her high-heeled shoes like a horse. *CLOP CLOP CLOP CLOP*
I sighed. To be honest, I wasn't planning on dating anyone. Exhausted and tired, I walked over back to the library. I needed a nap myself.

"Suzy!" Eunwoo had suddenly popped out of the library doorway. Wasn't he supposed to be asleep?

"Eunwoo?"

=== EUNWOO'S POV ===

In the past, when she fell asleep, I would catch myself staring at her. I wondered if she would do the same, so I pretended to take a quick nap.
Was this a good idea? Will she stare at me? Will she draw on my face? Will she prank me? Will she kiss me? Will she wake me up? My heart thumped out of impatience. Instead, Suzy got out one of the notebooks and held it up so the sun wouldn't be blaring into my eyes. How sweet.
Before I could see her next reaction, I heard her being called over by someone. She got up from her seat quietly, which was considerate, and left.
Where was she going? What was she going to do? Was she seeing someone? Is it a guy? Is she going on a date? Will they kiss? What about my kiss?
I bolted right back up into my sitting position and scanned the area. I spotted her leave the library with another girl. Who is that? Sohyun is with Rocky. I followed them as they made their way to the hallway. Hiding behind the open library doors, I eavesdrop over their conversation.

Yoojung? It sounds like her. What does she want?
Eunwoo-oppa? Since when was I her oppa?
Since when was I hers? Fated? We haven't even dated. We haven't even talked that much.
Moonbin? Suzy and Moonbin? They will never be together. I won't let that happen.
She'll leave me alone? Wait, she'll date Moonbin? What is going on?
Oh no! She's coming back!
What should I do? What should I do? What should I do? (ottoke)

I popped out from the doorway with a nervous smile. "Suzy!"

"Eunwoo?" She looked startled.

Nervous, I held her hand, took a deep breath, and blurted the first thing on my mind.
"Let's hang out tomorrow."
