Finding My Way
“Were you going to wait there all night?” We turn the block and I adjust Taehyung’s jacket on my shoulder. I nod my head and glance forward. We stay silent for a minute or two, listening to our shoes grind against the rocky, tar road.
“It was late… I thought you’d be sleeping so I didn’t want to disturb you.” Jimin pauses and purses his lips, innocently. “And I wasn’t sure what to say to you at first.”
“So you know what to say now?” I raise my eyebrow and turn my head to face him. He looks down and kicks a rock. “How about we start with Jungkook. How did you two manage to get in-touch?...Especially without my knowledge.”
“He contacted me first.” Jimin says without hesitation. “I don’t know now, but he asked to meet up. I was a few months after we all were separated.”
“Why wasn’t I apart of this? I was suffering on my own those days, thinking… knowing you were gone for good.” I ask, somewhat disappointed.
“I… I don’t know. To be honest I was shocked and curious as to why he never brought you along whenever we’d meet up.” Jimin takes my hand and holds it firmly, his voice growing weak. “I kept asking about you. He’d always avoid my questions. Believe me, I wanted to see you. Jungkook never let me.”
Hearing this from him makes me regret agreeing to speak with him in the first place.
“During the summer, we didn’t see each other a lot. I’m sure it was because you two were together right?” Jimin says, trying to cheer up the atmosphere. I answer him with since. “Well… Jungkook offered me to tag along with him in Buncheon for a month. That’s where we met Yoongi and Namjoon. Nothing else occurred, really.”
“Wrong.” I counter as we walk through the orphanage entrance. “Suga didn’t seem to enjoy your… presence. Something happened there. I know you don’t want to tell me.”
“Hey.” Jimin holds my shoulders and turns me to face him. “Trust me when I say this- Nothing happened during that time. Nothing that should concern you anyways.”
That doesn’t help. He’s shutting a door in front of my face.
“Right.” I smile plainly. “It’s late. We should get some sleep.”
“Arraseo.” It’s clear that Jimin’s not the one who’d tell me anything. I bow slowly and begin to walk into the building. Jimin takes me by the hand and pulls me into an embrace. His skin is burning hot as I feel his cheek gently press into mine. “Don’t leave me yet.”
I don’t want to. I take a deep breath and try my hardest to resist letting any tears fall down my face. I begin to hear small whimpers and Jimin buries his face into my shoulder. I lift my head and my heart sinks seeing his tears endlessly fall right in front of me. The hate and disappointing feeling I’ve had towards him evaporates and leaves me unwillingly sympathetic. It’s not his fault.
His eyes are swelled up and puffy. His hair looks damp, most likely from his sweat. Did he go somewhere before meeting up with me?
Gently, I place my hands on Jimin’s face and stroke his wet cheeks with my thumbs, wiping the tears stains away. He closes his eyes, causing few tears to drop. “C’mon, let’s get you some medicine for your fever.”
Lying to Jaemi is the best way to keep her out of everything. If she gets hurt, I won’t be able keep sane. It’s the side of me I don’t want her to see. The side of me I buried here in Buncheon, two years ago. The side of me that Yoongi is trying to bring back to life.
A few hours earlier…
“You think Jaemi left because of what she heard?” Yoongi questions.
“What is it to you?” I shake my head and the bell rings. I stand up, but he holds my arm firmly.
“We need to talk.” Yoongi looks deeply into my eyes. He turns his head sideways, acknowledging Jaemi’s friends, Taehyung. “Get a way out of going back to the orphanage with them.”
“Jimin~” Hoseok grins and Yoongi lets go of my arm almost immediately. “Are you ready to catch the train?”
“I…” I hesitate for a second before answering him. “I need to speak with our teachers… You guys can head home first. Just tell me the stop on the train and I’ll find my way back.”
“Are you sure you don’t want us to wait for you? It’s not a problem.” Seokjin negotiates. Yoongi stands up and heads out of the room.
“No, no.” I smile brightly. “I don’t want to be a burden. On top of that, I’m sure you guys have work.”
“...It’s the 5th stop from here. Get on the South train.” Taehyung says, judging my facial expression.
“Then, we’ll be heading home first.” Seokjin bows, followed by Hoseok and Taehyung. “If we’re not there, Byeol will be.”
I bow and wait for them to leave the room before I finish gathering my belongings. As I walk out of the classroom, I find Yoongi waiting for me down the hall. “You take forever.”
Yoongi takes me on the North train, refusing to tell me where we’re headed. When we arrive at our stop, he leads me to an abandoned house. “You live here now?”
Yoongi nods and nudges his nose with his knuckles. My jaw almost drops, recalling the summertime where Yoongi, Namjoon, Jungkook and I spent some nights here together. I head in first, having a photographic memory of everything. Giving myself a “tour” of the house, I walk into almost every room, stopping in the office. My school bag drops onto the floor and my eyes widen. It can’t be…
I hesitate in fear and turn around to find Yoongi standing right behind me. Next thing I know, he approaches me with a fist, causing me to fall on the ground. My vision blurs and the last thing I see is a clipboard on Yoongi’s office desk with a pinned map and tons of pictures of Jaemi at different angles tapped to the wall above it. No…
As my senses come back together, a bell rings and a woman speaks through the loudspeaker. I turn my head side to side and realize I’m on a train. Yoongi sits across from me, wearing all black and a mask to cover his face. A memory plays in my mind, taking me out of reality. Jungkook sits next to him, wearing familiar clothing. Suddenly, the memory bounce out of my head, and I blink my eyes thrice. Suga smirks behind his mask and turns his head crooked, gluing his eyes with mine. The memory runs through my brain and this time, I don’t snap out of it.
I peered down at my black clothing Yoongi lent me. Namjoon placed a hand on my shoulder and I turned to meet his gaze. “Why are you so out of it today?”
“W-what do you mean?” I said, almost laughing. “It’s been one of the most thrilling days of this month.”
“Yah, you two love-birds.” Jungkook teased and caught our attention. Jungkook sat with Yoongi across the train. He pulled his mask down and Yoongi stood up first. “We’re at our stop, let’s go.”
Namjoon put on his backpack and stood up with me. As we head back to our hideout, Yoongi wrapped an arm around me and pulled me close. “Thank you for that. I’m entirely grateful.”
I couldn’t help but smile. “Anything for a friend.”
In the abandoned house, we walked up to the office, the usual spot, and dumped out everything on the office desk. Jungkook and I pegged the map on the wall and pinned the important spots. Meanwhile, Namjoon and Yoongi tapped up the photos we took of him. I used a piece a string we stole from the yarn store and create a thread line on the map. Once finished, we looked at each other satisfied.
Yoongi took out the clipboard and wrote down some notes. Jungkook sat on the couch and heaved a sigh. “What do we have so far, Yoongi.”
“We all know by now that he wakes up around 4:30am everyday and watches the sun rise at the pond. But, we need to take note it’s been a huge habit since… I’ve been hanging with you guys instead. We need to make an extra shift then.”
“I’ll do it.” I yawned and stretched, plopping myself next to Jungkook.
“Are you sure you know the way to the orphanage?” Yoongi glanced at me with concern. “Why don’t you just sleep over there with me.”
“I’ve memorized it by now.” I nodded my head. “It’s too late and I’m too lazy to go out now. I think I’ll fall asleep before even getting there. But arriving in the morning shouldn’t be a problem.”
“Alright. I’ll meet you there in the morning. Just knock on my door. Make sure you get here earlier than 4:30.”
“Arraseo, Hyung.” I smile briefly and shut my eyes. Namjoon lets me use his lap as a pillow and my calves rest on Jungkook’s laugh. Yoongi continues to talk about the list on his clipboard to Jungkook and Namjoon as I doze asleep. ‘All this work, just for Taehyung.’
*smirk* *smirk* Annyeonghashimika readers~~~
SO, this chapter is... something. I hope it leaves you something to think about. Does it sound a bit... insane? Meh.
Where does Jaemi fall into this...? More imporantly, Taehyung.
WEUIHRFIEWUHFUDSHFKSDHFKJSDHFLKHEWIUHF You guys saw their short films right? F*** ME IN THE A** I died watching.
And, ironically, this story is kind of related to it. Jungkook and the painting of Suga in the first video, which in this story resembles their relationship. Jimin... who's left all alone since Jungkook and Jaemi were out of the picture. Taehyung, saying he has no parents and is as pure and innocent as ever. HOT. YES. Namjoon and his voice, lmaoooo his english makes me cringe sometimes. All we're missing is Hoseok and Jin, which I'm guessing is in the upcoming video.
BUT YEAH, your reading the work of a genius and fortune teller. *I see the future* LMAO, just kidding
