Unexpected

Chapter 5

Maranda’s POV

It has been about a week since I began working as a nanny for TOP. Just like every day I woke up at six in the morning took my shower, got dressed, fixed my hair and makeup. Then went to the kitchen to fix myself breakfast, and get the bottle ready for Min Hyun. He usually woke up about eight-thirty.

I hear him start to cry on the baby monitor. Eight-thirty. You could set a watch to him. I pick up his bottle walking in his bedroom. I changed his diaper before I fed him. He was being a little fussy today so it took longer for him to finish eating. I took him to the living room placing him in his baby swing with some blocks. I cleaned his bottle then disinfected it to make sure there wasn’t any germs left.

I checked the clock. Ten-fifteen. I picked up Min Hyun taking him to get dress. I checked the temperature outside and decided on an onesie, pair of pants and a light jacket. I put him in the stroller then we walked down to the park that was a couple blocks away. Even though he took longer to eat breakfast we got to the park at our normal time eleven o’clock. We sat down on our normal bench. I took him out of the stroller setting him on my lap. He watched the birds walk around next to us pecking at the ground eating bugs. A few joggers passed by that caught his attention. He started fussing at noon for his lunch so I placed him back into the stroller while I got his bottle out of the diaper bag.

After he finished eating we started our walk back to the house. I laid him down for a nap, turning on classical music, then went to the living room to read. I chose the same book I do every day, Pet Semetary by Stephen King. After about an hour I went in to check on Min Hyun. Still asleep.

I started making a list of things we needed for Min Hyun. Kat had TOP’s card on file so we could just pick things up and she would charge the card later. Because we were using Kat’s store it was much easier making a list. Instead of writing down the names of items and taking a chance of the wrong thing being bought I wrote down the item identification number. Kat knows what they are by now. She is used to my lists.

TOP had been trying to get home at a more reasonable time so I wasn’t surprised when he and the boys walked in the door at six. I was setting in the kitchen feeding Min Hyun.

“Hey. How was work?” I called out to him. He walked into the kitchen with everyone else.

“Good. Working on choreography.” He says to me setting down.

“Fun. Oh! I wrote out a list of things we need for Min Hyun.” I say handing him the folded piece
of paper.

“GD, do you mind going for us?” He asks handing him the paper.

“Yeah no problem.” He opens the paper and looks confused at the paper. He then turns to me.

“What are these coordinates?” He asks me shocked at the numbers.

I laugh slightly. “It’s a shopping list.”

“For what? Land?”

“No. Take it to Kat’s store and give it to her. She knows what it means and will get the stuff you need. You don’t have to pay she has TOP’s card on file. Anything that’s not on the list though you pay for yourself.” I explain to him.

GD looks at TOP in disbelief. “You should see the grocery lists she gives me.” TOP tells him.

“She does this to you too?”

“There is a picture, item name, and item number so I don’t get the wrong brand.” He says matter of fact.

Kat’s POV

I was setting behind the counter reading when I heard the bell of the door opening. I glanced up and see GD taking off his mask and sunglasses.

He walks over and hands me a piece of paper. “I’m supposed to give this to you.”

I glance at the paper. “She did the fucking number thing again.” I say taking the paper.

“Yep.”

“Have you seen her grocery lists?” I ask him standing up to go get the items on the list.

“She does that to you too?” He asks surprised.

“Every time she lives with me.” I go get the items and come back to the counter. I see GD has placed some clothes there too. I look at the list to see if I missed them. There wasn’t any so I looked back at GD. “You know those aren’t on the list right?”

“It should be!” He says to me.

“Ok, so no charge on clothes.” I say putting everything into bags.

He reaches out handing me a credit card.

“It’s really ok.” I tell him.

“Keep it on file. Those idiots can’t buy good clothes.”

“You know he will outgrow those pretty quickly right?”

“What? Are we just going to let him run around in a diaper?”

“Point taken.” I finish putting everything into bags then handing them to him.

He takes the bags from me. He leans onto the counter and looks at me dead on. “You have really gorgeous eyes you know.”

I start to blush at him. “Thanks.” I stutter out.

“No they really are. They’re a beautiful crystal blue.” He shoots me one of his smiles.

I smile back at him. “Thank you. You have a really nice smile.”

This time he blushes. “What are you doing on Friday?”

“Nothing.”

“Good. You’re going on a date with me. Pick you up at seven.” He quickly picks up the bags again and leaves before I can say anything to him.

I quickly pick up the phone to call Maranda.

Maranda’s POV

The boys are watching television with Min Hyun while I clean up the kitchen. I hear my phone start to ring. That’s weird. Kats calling me. “Hello?”

“I need you here at six on Friday.” She states.

“Why?” I ask suspicious.

“Got a date.”

“What did you do? Pick up a hot single dad?” I say laughing.

“No. Your hot single errand boy.”

I got confused. “My hot errand boy.” My voice trails as I try to think of what she is talking about.
I hear GD walk through the door. “I’m back.”

It clicks. “GD!?!” I yell into the phone.

“Yeah?” I hear him ask as he walks into the room.

“Nothing.” I whisper to him. He walks back into the living room leaving me the bags on the counter. “Tell me everything!” I say to Kat in a hushed tone.

“Well he got the stuff on the list and was about to leave. Then he complemented me on my eyes. So I complemented his smile. Then he asked me out. He actually left before I could say yes or no. But I guess I’m going.”

“Yeah I’ll be there at six. I gotta go.”

“What are you in a hurry for? I don’t hear Min Hyun crying.”

“No. I’m going to tell TOP what I’m doing.”

“Isn’t GD there?”

“Yep!” I quickly hang up and put my phone down on the counter with the bags.

I walk into the living room and see TOP holding Min Hyun. “Hey TOP?”

“Yeah?” He asks looking up at me.

“Umm, do you need me Friday for an hour around six?” I ask him.

“No. I don’t work Friday. Why?”

I turn to GD. “GD do you want to tell them or should I?”

The boys start nagging him to tell them. After about fifteen minutes TOP spoke up. “Come on man! Because of you I’m losing my nanny for an hour.”

“Ok! Ok! I have a date with Kat.”
