A Deer and A Baozi
Chapter 40
Ling surprised me with the question that even I did not know the answer to. I turned to see her looking at me with her big brown eyes with her hand in her hair.
"Let's date." I grinned at her making her blush.
She ducked her head and looked at her plate of food making me uneasy about her reaction to my words. "No? You don't want to?"
"No, I do," Her voice was quiet. "I don't know."
I knew what was wrong, it was pretty obvious. "You want to date Minseok and not Xiumin."
She said nothing and I knew I was right. I leaned my face to hers and our eyes locked. "You can start then by calling me Minseok instead of Xiumin."
She frowned and stood up abruptly. "I know, but that's not what I mean."
I was now extremely confused, what had she meant? Was being with me that hard to wrap her head around? I looked at her curiously tilting my head to the side. She blushed and covered her face with her hands.
"How can you be so cute," She whined. "I can't even be serious."
I smiled and went around the counter to wrap my arm around her. "What's wrong Ling?"
She thought for a moment and looked up to meet my eyes, our noses touching. "It's going to be a lot of work for an idol like you to keep a girlfriend like me."
I smiled, Ling had called herself my girlfriend. I pulled her closer and rested my forehead on hers. "It's nice that you're worrying Ling, but don't worry about me."
She frowned and turned her head to avoid my eyes.
"Should I leave EXO?"
Ling swung her hand around and pushed me away. I stared at her eyes wide and my heart thumping loudly.
"Don't you dare say something like that!" She snapped at me. "If that's what it means for us to date, then I don't want anything to do with you."
She was now visibly upset at me. Despite the angry atmosphere that loomed over her, I still found it unbearably cute how she cared so deeply about me. I nodded at her and reached to grab her hand.
"I won't leave EXO, but just because I'm in EXO doesn't mean we can't date."
Ling looked at me skeptically and walked into my arms. She hugged me tightly. "Fine, but if anything happens to you, this relationship is over."
With my heart racing, I tried to hold back the giant smile that spread across my lips with no success. I held her close and nodded excitedly.
I could finally call Ling my own.

Ling's POV
When the other members arrived at my apartment that night, we all gathered in the living room like old times. Baekhyun was as clingy as always and even with the intense glares Xiumin threw at him, he did not budge.
"Ling, can we stay here tonight too," Sehun muttered looking at Xiumin.
"Sure," I smiled. "Where are you guys staying anyways?"
"Hotel," Kai muttered in distaste.
Lay shrugged. "There's nowhere else to stay, I didn't want to bring all of you home."
I laughed and promised that I would let them stay over that night. Around five, Xiumin dragged me out to buy some snacks for the members to eat. With much complaining from Sehun, he eventually tagged along with us. In the elevator, Xiumin held me by my waist and pulled me farther from Sehun. The two of them glared at each other as I stood between them with my head ducked down trying to get out of their way.
"Hyung, did you sleep in Ling's bed last night?" Sehun asked narrowing his eyes.
"I did," Xiumin said slowly. "I'm also dating her."
"What? Hyung, now you're starting to become more like me." He smiled smugly to himself.
"No," Xiumin snickered. "For real."
I hid my smile as I hear Sehun's loud gasp beside me. The two of them argued like five-year-olds, throwing insults at each other without holding back. I led them to the supermarket around the corner and made sure they stopped bickering with my arms looped around theirs.
"Ling," Xiumin whispered to me when Sehun was distracted by a bag of chips. "Don't hold on to Sehun like that."
I couldn't help but smile at his obvious jealousy. I pecked him on the cheek and pulled him closer to me. "There, how's that."
I watched as his face grew red and he looked away from me in embarrassment.
"Ah! It's Ling!"
A few of my friends from around the community came over to greet me. They gasped when they saw Sehun and Xiumin.
"EXO! EXO!" They whispered excitedly and pulled out their phones. I smiled shyly and pushed the two boys towards them. They stumbled a little but posed perfectly for a picture.
"Ling, isn't Sehun your bias?" One of the girls said to me. "Let me get a picture of you two."
She pulled me next to Sehun and told us to pose. Sehun wrapped his arms around me and the two of us smiled into the camera. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Xiumin standing there with his arms crossed and a displeased look on his face.
I'll have to remember to make it up to him.
For the rest of the night, Xiumin looked dejected. He stopped trying to get closer to me and looked away whenever one of the members got too touchy. With the members being clingy, I didn't have much time to talk to him privately, only exchanging glances from time to time. Later that night, after the members have fallen asleep in the living room, I found him standing on the balcony.
"Wow, I nearly never use this space," I whispered as I pushed back the blinds that covered the door.
Xiumin jumped when he heard me and turned to look at me, hands resting on the railing. He looked away when we made eye contact. I could tell that he was upset so I moved to stand next to him, snuggling myself as close to him as possible.
"Minnie?" I whispered in his ear. His cheeks flushed red spreading eventually to his ears. I smiled and nudged my head on his shoulder. "Are you angry with me?"
He shook his head. "The members are just so clingy."
"You're jealous."
He looked at me with an annoyed look. "Of course I am! I'm your boyfriend, I should be the only one who should be that close to you."
I blushed at the word boyfriend and giggled at him. "Minseok, you're so cute."
He pouted and looked away again.
We stood in silence staring up at the stars that were barely visible behind the scattered clouds. The night air was cool against my skin and a calm breeze blew against my hair, moving strands out of my face. I moved closer to Xiumin as I started to get a little chilly in my shorts and tank top and he wrapped his arm around me, warming me up instantly.
"Ling," Xiumin's voice was soft. "Come back to Korea."
I smiled at how blunt his words were but didn't look up to meet his eye. I knew this question was coming since meeting them at the restaurant, if not from Xiumin, then from one of the other members. It was a question that I didn't have the answer to.
"Come and live in the dorm again," He continued, his voice was shaking now. "Please, Ling."
My mind flashed to Luhan and Borin and I felt my brows furrow. I shook my head and realized that I couldn't go back, I didn't have the confidence to face the two of them now.
"Because of Luhan?"
I looked up at him. His eyes were full of pain and his eyebrows arched upwards in disappointment. I opened my mouth to say something, but when no words came out, I closed it again.
"Are you still in love with him?"
I stared at his hands which were now over mine. He gripped my hand hard almost as if he was going to lose me if he let go and my heart pinched in pain. I couldn't look him in the eyes as I answered his question.
"I don't know."
