The Roller Coaster That Is Life

Chapter 37: Family

Nita's POV

She was feeling warm, very warm as she woke up. Her shoulder was screaming at her. The slightest movement was shooting pain through her body. But she was feeling hotter by the moment. Waking up, she could feel something against her back and something against her front. The arm under her was asleep, all she could feel was pins and needles in her arm. She had to get up. Opening her eyes she tried to turn on her back, but she couldn't move. Her eyes came into focus and she realized she was sandwiched between two people.
"Relax, Nita, they haven't slept well all night. They're finally sleeping peacefully." Superman spoke in a low tone. She tried to lift her head, but couldn't. She realized Siwon was at her back, his head resting in the nook of her neck and shoulder. She recognized G's dress shirt, he was sleeping on her front side. His chin resting on top of her head, while one arm was acting as her pillow, the other was laying on his side. Siwon had his one arm on her hips, while the other was his pillow.
"I'm feeling hot, Superman. Can you uncover my feet?" She asked him, when she was overly hot under the blankets, usually exposing one part of her body, helped cool it down. She felt the cold air hit the tips of her toes and smiled.
"If only this wasn't happening in the hospital." She whispered to herself. She was smiling from ear to ear. She was wrapped in the arms of the two people who had a part of her heart. She felt content, even with everything that happened. She was happy and that was a rare thing.
"You think you could give me an update on what's going on?" Nita quietly asked Superman. Wondering if she'd missed anything eventful.
"You're in the hospital after obtaining a shoulder wound. You scared the shit out of everyone in this room, myself included. That's the update. You'll see when everyone's up," Superman bluntly finished. She knew she was going to have to listen to an earful of things from everyone. She decided not to ask any more questions and contently returned to her dream land.

She had fallen asleep again. When her eyes opened she was being stared at. G was watching her sleep. In a different world that would have been a dream come true, but she was in the hospital at the moment. God knew what her hair looked like, and she knew the hospital outfit wasn't doing her any favors, and who knew what the smeared makeup looked like. She tried to look away, leaning her head against G's chest.
"Thank God, you're wake." She felt him let out a deep breath. She could hear the quick beats of his heart. He was worried about her.
"Yea, I came to, when everyone was sleeping," she answered. She winched as she tried to move her shoulders.
"Hold on a minute. I'll get up, and then I'll help you," G said, slowly moving his arm out from under her.
"What about him," she asked, pointing at Siwon.
"He won't wake up, just slowly move over," G offered his hand to her and she took it, "here, now just slowly slide out. There, let me fix the pillows. You can sit up for a little bit." He wasn't looking at her. She didn't blame him, but she didn't like the distance it created.
Soon there was shuffling all around the room. Nita just waited for everyone to wake up. She adjusted herself, when Siwon began moving, giving him room to stretch. Different intervals of yawning and groaning were chorusing around the room.
“You’re awake!” Siwon announced, grabbing everyone’s attention with his announcement.
Nita gave a small smile.
“How are you feeling?” T.O.P asked, stretching out his arms.
“Okay, considering,” Nita replied, shrugging her shoulders, immediately regretting it when pain once again shoot through her shoulder.
Nita heard the door to the hospital room open and saw Yang Sangnim walk in.
“How are you feeling?” Sangnim asked, as he took a seat in the empty chair by the bed.
“I’m feeling alright, now.” Nita answered, once again giving a small smile.
“I have something I want to show you,” Sangnim handed her a tablet, “watch the videos.”
Nita slide her finger across the screen to unlock the tablet, then going to the video icon, she played the videos in order.
The first video was a pan of the audience, the camera glided across the miles of fans at the premiere. The video went out enough to pick up, the fact that Nita had been watching the crowd. The next video brought up a shot of her walking towards the guys after looking into the crowd one more time, anyone could see her eyes were following one person in the crowd. She saw one of the security guards flirting with a fan, while the strange woman made her way past the guard. By that time she was standing behind G and T, while T.O.P, V, and D made their way towards the entrance. As G and T started moving the woman was screaming as she raised her arms and attacked Nita from behind, ripping her dress. In the video Nita had just been standing there till, G had wrapped his coat around her and helped her inside, with the help of the others. The screen cut to security footage inside the building, where she was escorted inside the ladies room and followed in by V.
"Would you care to explain what happened in the bathroom?" Sangnim asked, "Seungri told us what you told him to do, but I would like to know why you didn't seek medical attention right away."
She gave him the tablet back.
"I think we all want to know the answer to that question." Siwon spoke up. "You had us scared to death."
"He couldn't focus on work, because he was worried about you!" G said, "The others took turns going to and from work, while T.O.P, Daesung, Seungri, Youngbae, and I cancelled our schedule!"
G's worry was as plain as day on his face. He had dark circles under his eyes, his skin was pale, and he looked weak. He probably hadn't eaten since she'd been in the hospital. She looked around at the others. They all had similar issues, but V's back was to her. Why wasn't he looking at her?
"V, are you okay?" She wasn't sure what was going on, but something didn't feel right. Her gut was telling her something was wrong. Without thinking, she quickly removed herself from her bed and went to him, ignoring the pain in her shoulder and the sting of the IV leaving her vain. She pulled at his shoulder, but he still wouldn't turn around. Something wasn't right.
"V, I swear, if you don't look at me, I'll walk out of the hospital." It was an empty threat, she knew the others wouldn't let her do such a thing. She knew scaring him was the only way to get him to turn around. Siwon grabbed a clean towel and put pressure on her hand. She didn't care at the moment.
"Leave him alone, Nita." G replied icily. She shivered at the numbness in his voice. She understood, it was because she hadn't said anything to anyone about her wound, but she had her reasons.
"This doesn't concern you," Nita replied, turning back to V.
"What happened, V? Why aren't you looking at me?" She asked, still pulling on his shoulder.
"She's bleeding, Seungri and you know she won't sit down till you turn around. The doctor said, she shouldn't be using her shoulder, please just turn around." Siwon pleaded in calm tone. The mentioning of bleeding immediately made V turn around looking at her shoulder.
She knew why he was hiding his face now. Someone had went at him relentlessly and she knew it happened because of her. V's left eye was a midnight black with a blue border. She could see his nose had been bleeding at some point, because there was some dried blood out lining his nostrils. His lip had two cuts on it, one on his top lip and the other on the bottom. As she followed the markings, she lifted her hand to turn his face to the side, he had a bruise the size of a baseball on the right side of his face. She didn't brother asking who did it. She shook off Siwon's hand and turned around looking at everyone's hands. Whoever went at him, would have some marks of their own on their knuckles. No one could do something like that and not have damaged hands. Her eyes went to G's hands. She walked up to him and grabbed his hands. His knuckles were bruised and cracked. She didn't say anything him. The dots were connecting in her mind, and guilt ran through her deeper than the darkest depths of the ocean. She went back to V, and sank to her knees. Bowing.
"I deeply apologize for the hardships, I've put you through." She was at the edge of her emotional cliff, and she used every once of will power to not cry in front of them all. This is what she had been afraid of, the damage her past was reeking to her present wasn't supposed to happen.
She switched to angle herself to others and bowed, "I truly am sorry, for all the trouble I've caused."
"Do you honestly think we want an apology?!" G's voice sounded baffled, like he couldn't believe what was coming out of her mouth. She looked up, V was standing in front of her, bending down to help her up. She took the help, it had been easy to fall to the floor, but she knew she was going to need help getting back up .
"Hyung was upset, it wasn't a hardship. You're family to us and I would have done whatever you needed me to, in order to help you. This," V said, gesturing to his face, "is just another way someone showed they were worried about you."
"I don't need an apology. I need you to stay safe. Do you understand, Nita? Do you understand that I need to see you standing there smiling at us and enjoying your time with us? Do you understand that seeing you sitting there, not responding to me, nearly scared the life out me?!" G looked distraught, she'd never seen him like that before.
"Just relax, GD. I'm sure she had a reason for doing what she did." Siwon chimed in, guiding her back to the bed and helping her in.
"Now if you could answer my question," Sangnim said, sitting patiently in his chair while the drama ensued.
She nodded her head and looked for Superman and Sanju. The door to the room opened again, and two beefy bodyguards made their way into the already crowded room, followed by two more guards. Superman and Sanju were the third set in line. She looked at the two guards that had come in first, they looked familiar.
"How you feeling, baby doll?" the taller one asked, smiling at her. Baby Doll? Why did that sound familiar? Who had called her baby doll?
"I'm surprised you're still alive, short stop." The shorter one announced, Short Stop and Baby Doll, why did those names sound so familiar?
"You don't recognize them?" Superman asked, looking at her.
"Am I supposed to?" She countered and then it clicked.
"You two were training to be dad's new bodyguards before I left," she smiled to herself remembering their nicknames, "Oak," she pointed to the taller one, "and Bush," she pointed the shorter one.
"So you do remember us," Oak smiled patting her head.
"I remember kicking your butt," Nita answered playfully. Looking at the other two who had walked in, those two she didn't know. She looked back at Oak and Bush and gave them a questioning look.
"They're Joe's sons," Bush answered, "They're getting a chance to gain experience."
She nodded her head, offering her hand. "Nita Singh, nice to meet you guys."
They took turns shaking her hand, "I'm friends with your sister, you know."
They just nodded their heads, she nodded hers too, feeling a bit awkward. She looked at Superman, "what's going on, if they're dad's security, what are they doing here?"
"Boss is outside, talking to the security on the floor." Superman replied. Nita knew her mouth was hanging open.
"When did he get here?" Nita asked, hoping he hadn't been around when she was apologizing.
"Just now, we went to go get him. We all just came up together." Sanju answered.
"I guess my explanation is going to have to wait," she said to herself.
She didn't wait long, before she heard the door open again. The footsteps coming to a halt, when her father walked further in, taking in the crowded room, he smiled.
"So you're not alone. That's good to see." Her father said, everyone moving out of the way, creating a clear path to Nita.
"Daddy. . ." She couldn't help the childish response. She couldn't keep her father's face in focus, because she was on the verge of tears. She blinked a couple of time to clear out her eyes, she wasn't going to cry.
"Oh, sweetheart, I'm so sorry." Her father apologized. She wasn't sure what he was apologizing for. None of this was his fault.
"Please don't start the waterworks, dad. I've missed you too. I'm fine, see, look," she pulled away from his hug, and gestured at herself, "I'm fine. You know, I can handle myself."
He smiled at her and caressed her head and cheeks. He had been worried about her, probably ever since she'd left the house. She couldn't have called him, because that would have given her away. Her father understood that, but he was still a parent and parents worried over their children, no matter how old their children were. She understood that, and didn't say anything, then he hugged her again, making sure to leave her hurt shoulder alone.
"How long was it, since the other's came and visited you?" Her father asked after a little while. Pulling back to look at her again.
"A week and two days," G answered. Her father looked at him and sent a questioning look to Nita.
"Isn't his picture in ---" She cover his mouth with her hand. There was no reason in letting G know she had a poster of him in her room and bathroom.
"She probably found out earlier than that. Planning takes time." Nita replied.
"Will someone please clue the rest of us in, on what's going on exactly." G commented, frustration coming off in waves.
"They don't know," her father asked, whispering.
She nodded her head. "I think it's time, they were clued in." Superman said in his stoic guard voice.
"Ditto." Sanju chimed in.
"Yea, I've been trying to, but for some reason someone or something keeps popping up." Nita answered, she was going to tell them, before Superman, Sanju, and her father's guards had walked in. She looked at the others, who were anxiously looking at each other and then at Nita.
She took in a deep breath and exhaled, ignoring the pain in her shoulder as she did so. Closing her eyes, she composed her face, not wanting to react to their reaction. Once this was over, she had some planning to do.
"My full name is Nita Aditya Singh," she paused, looking at the others. Her gaze fell on G and Siwon, who were still waiting for her to finish. Her father took a hold of her hand, giving her silent encouragement.
"If you didn't recognize the name, it belongs to an underground mafia family. We do weapon's distribution on the black market. . . . . . . . . . .I ended up leaving home for some personal reasons, but it looks like my past has finally caught up to my present. . . . . . . .I was trying to stay away from someone, but they ended up finding me anyways. . . . . . . . .the attack at the premiere was meant for me, no one else. . . . . .the reason why I didn't seek medical attention was because I couldn't afford to let them know they got to me.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .but in end they found out anyways." She finished. She looked at the others, they were all wearing the look of shock, except of Yang Sangnim. He gave her a small smile. She was glad she'd disclosed everything before she was hired. She didn't want to think about what would happen if he had just received the news like the others. She wasn't surprised when one by one they all started walking out, it became difficult when both G and Siwon turned their backs on her too. It took every ounce of will power to not start balling and curling into herself. The only one's left in the room were, her dad's guards, her father, Sanju, Superman, and Yang Sangnim.
"I'll go talk to them," Yang Sangnim said, getting up from his seat.
"You don't have to, I'll respect what ever decision they make." Nita replied, feeling numb all over. It had taken mere seconds to lose everyone she called a friend, it happened every time, she didn't know why she was surprised with the outcome.
She looked at her father, he was hurt too. She could see it in his eyes, regret and self-loathing flowing through them. "You should head home too, if she finds out it will only cause more trouble. Plus, your younger sons will throw a fit, if you hurt their mom." Nita smiled and looking at Oak and Bush bobbed her head towards the door. They understood and started to exit, she pushed her father to get up and go.
Now it was just, Sanju and Superman. "You should go too. I'm feeling drained all of the sudden. I think I'm just going to sleep some more."
"I don't think I should go," Sanju answered, walking towards the chair next to the bed.
"I need to be alone, please." Nita pleaded, she hoped he would pick on the fact that she was begging. She needed to cry and she didn't want anyone else in the room when she did it.
"Superman, please." She looked at Superman, who just nodded his head. Taking Sanju's arm he guided him out of the room and quietly closed the door.
Lying down on her side, she sunk her head into the pillow and quietly let her sadness flow. There was no one there to comfort her, no one there to tell her everything was going to be alright. She knew this was how it was going to end, but she wasn't ready for the depth of her heartache at losing the people that had come to mean so much to her, in such little time.

Sanju's POV

"We shouldn't leave her alone, Hulk." Sanju knew she was crying in there all by herself. This wasn't the first time something like this had happened. As they walked out of the hospital room, the guys were standing their discussing something, with Yang Sangnim. The look on Sangnim's face said he wasn't liking what he was hearing. Nita's father was on the other side talking on the phone. He was pacing back and forth sounding calm and collected, but looked pissed off and furious.
Nita possessed the same quality as her father. On the outside she could project an uncaring demeanor, but on the inside she could be shattered and no one would know. Like right now, when she had asked them to leave she looked calm and unaffected by what had just happened, but Sanju knew. He had grown up with her had seen her mother's abuse towards her first hand, more so than even Luka. He would see the physical damage, but Nita wouldn't show it in her attiude or demeanor.
"I know, but she would have just gone to sleep if we stayed. She only vents when she's alone, you know that. And if she keeps this bottled up, it will only affect her more. She still has work she needs to finish and she can't let their reaction to her truth bother her. She knows she has us and right now we just have to wait for her to figure out what she wants to do now." Hulk answered.
He was right, of course. Hulk was Hulk to everyone else but Nita, to her he was Superman. He was Superman, because he always came to her rescue. It was one of the reasons why he only let her call him Superman.
"You know she hasn't been using the morphine drip, right." Sanju asked Hulk.
Hulk nodded, "if she was she wouldn't have been so lucid."
"I've known her since we've been kids, but there are times I don't understand her." Sanju's reply was frustrated even to his ears.
"You don't talk about the things that bother you. She's not so different, she needs the curtain closed to let out her emotions, where you don't." Hulk replied. Sanju guessed Hulk knew more about her, because he'd been with her since she was a baby. It made sense he understood her better.
"We still need to tell her about Chotu and Suraj." Sanju said, stating the obvious.
"We can wait for that. Plus I'm sure they don't want their grandfather finding out that they're here and not at home. They came all this way to see their foi, I think they should at least get the chance." Hulk said smiling, "Plus, those two are the only two people left who will bring a smile to her face right now. Even if she's not happy, for them she will be."
"So I guess we bring them by tomorrow." Sanju said.
"We should grab something to eat and take something to go for them too." Hulk said, pushing the elevator button.
"Did you let the guards know, not to let anyone go in." Sanju asked, because if anyone walked in while she was crying he didn't want to know what she would do.
"I told them, to not let anyone in till 2am. By that time, the ones who really want to stay with her will be the only ones waiting to see her." Hulk answered.
"And if no one is waiting then what," Sanju asked.
"My gut's telling me, someone will be." Hulk answered, pulling out the car keys.
