The Roller Coaster That Is Life

Chapter 32: Looking Back

Nita's POV
Nita dropped herself on the couch, while everyone else made their way back to her room to go to sleep. She wasn't going to get any sleep tonight, her mind was occupied with too much uncertainty. Since all the rooms were full, Sanju had decided to head back to his place. Which left Luka without a bed.
"You have an extra blanket and pillow somewhere," he asked her. She nodded her head, getting up and going to the closet. The top shelf in the entryway closet was to high for her to reach, but T.O.P was sleeping and she didn't want to bother anyone else. Stretched up high, tip toeing but she was still having trouble reaching the pillows and blanket.
"You really shouldn't reach for things wearing that," Luka said, reaching above her to bring down the pillows and blanket.
"Well, technically it was supposed to be a party of one, this year," Nita replied. That's what she had planned, anyways.
"Do you want to come back home," he hesitantly asked. "We miss you a lot, and Surajbhai and Babs have been worried sick about you. Even though it's almost been a year, they worry about how you're doing." Luka made his way back to the living room.
Nita felt guilty, it seemed like everyone knew where she was except the people who cared about her the most. "I'll call them after next weekend. Bhai will want to ask me a million questions and Babs will want to make sure I'm okay. I won't be surprised if they ask to come and visit." Nita wasn't sure if she had the courage to call them up, but she knew she had too, it was only a matter of time before they found out too.
"I'm guessing the two you're into are the first and second names on your tattoo," Luka said.
Nita just nodded her head. Luka was the only one who knew about the names on her dragons. At first glance all anyone noticed was the dragon tattoo itself. When someone looked at the scales on the dragons closely they would find the names of seven people on one dragon and eight on the other. But she hadn't told anyone about that. Luka was the only one who had actually seen the entire tattoo. She was brought out of her thoughts when she felt hands on her feet. Nita sighed. He did this every year.
"Luka, get up, please don't this. I tell you every year this isn't necessary," Nita reached for his heads and pulled them off of her feet and into her hands.
"Get up, please," she said, pulling him so he would get up and sit on the couch.
"I’m sorry," was all he said. She knew Luka since they were kids, being friends with Tonya always put her in contact with Luka.
"We do this every year, I think the head in the lap part should become tradition," Nita said smiling.
"For once, I'd wish you would get mad and upset. Aren't you reminded of his incident every year on your birthday," frustration laced his voice.
"What I'm reminded of every year is the fact that someone was willing to defend me to such an extent. You had no idea I would have been home. You also didn't know that my brothers were home too. You couldn't have thought that they would have tried to protect that snake, that's my mother. What happened to me was my responsibility, my brothers protected my mother, and I protected them. You only retaliated because she had hurt me. I understand that, Luka and I've never blamed you for anything," Nita replied.
It was true she hadn't blamed Luka for anything. At the time they were still set to get married, he was defending his wife-to-be, she understood that. She looked at Luka, whose head was still bowed to her. It was also one of the days she would never forget. It had been her birthday and she was in the kitchen cleaning up the dishes, before leaving to see Bhai. She had looked out the window and seen her mother sitting on the outside bench watching her younger brothers throwing around the football. She had noticed the stranger behind the tree first, but her younger brothers had too. The panicked look the boys had on their faces, instinctively made their mother look behind her. Nita was running out the door, by the time the boys noticed the stranger. Running towards their mother, the boys pulled her out of the way and immediately turned their backs to the liquid headed their way. Nita had made it just in time to push them out of the way and far enough only their ankles had been burned by the acid. Her back had taken most of the contents in the bottle. It had felt like lava was being drenched on her clothes. The chemical eating away the clothes on her back and continuing it's path into her skin. The extreme burning is what had caused her to pass out. She had woken up on her stomach wrapped in bandages. The doctor had told her she was going to have permanent scaring on her back, even after her surgeries.
"Here, lay down. I'm sure you're exhausted from the day," she said, leaning back and getting comfortable on the couch, she patted her lap. And with out arguing he put his head on her lap. She gently caressed his forehand and hair. In no time at all his eyelids were drooping and she could hear his calm even breathing.
"You have seem to have the weight of the world on your shoulders, Luka. You need to find someone who'll help carry such a heavy burden. I'm not that girl and I know I could never be that girl for you. I don't know how to convince you of that either," Nita whispered to his sleeping form.
"You know he's sleeping right," G's voice came from behind her. She didn't bother turning around, still caressing Luka's head.
She nodded.
"It looks like you guys are close," G stated. Again she nodded her head.
"Did you two date," he asked. She figured, now was as good a time as any to let him know the details of her life. Maybe that would put some distance between them.
"Yea, Luka, Tonya and I did date for a little bit," she answered, schooling her expression.
"You and Luka and you and Tonya, right," he asked. Good, he didn't misunderstand that. Some people automatically would pick up on the fact that Luka and Tonya were siblings, first. Usually Nita had to clarify, so Luka or Tonya wouldn't explain with their fists.
"I guess that's to be expected," G replied. What was that supposed to mean?
"It's my curse. Since I could understand my feelings, I've always liked two people at the same time. Growing up it was Tonya and Luka. Recently it was Aidan and Nathan, they were brothers. Even today, it's still two. Only once did I fall for one guy and that's my infamous Mystery Man," she answered.
G just watched her. "It's late, don't you think you should go back to bed," Nita asked. Even though she knew she wasn't going to sleep anytime soon, she didn't want to interrupt his resting time.
"Yeah, I think I better get some sleep, it's going to be a long day tomorrow." G got up from the couch and made his way upstairs.
G-Dragon’s POV
It was going to be a very long night. He was still processing everything he had learned about Nita. He still couldn’t figure out how Siwon managed to handle everything he had found out today. Jiyong really needed to start announcing his entrances, where ever Nita was.
She was a mob boss’ daughter, but she didn’t seem dangerous at all. The way she took care of everyone around her said she cared about the people in her life, celebrity or gangster. He watched her staying in the shadows. The only light coming from the night light Nita had plugged in by the TV. She was getting comfortable on the couch.
“Here, lay down. I’m sure you’re exhausted from the day,” she said, looking at him with an endearing look. Jiyong was still getting jealous. Of course, his feelings didn’t care about whose daughter she was. Luka had been dressed in a tailor made suit. The fabric hugging his well-toned body, now his suit jacket was tossed over the arm rest of the sectional. His tie was loose around his neck and the first couple of buttons undone. The guy looked good, even to Jiyong’s standards, but Nita didn’t seem affected by it all. She smiled down at him and started petting him like he was a dog, who wanted her attention.
She just sat there with his head in her lap as she ran her fingers through his hair. Jiyong risked getting closer to the two of them. Wanting to know, what Nita was really thinking. She was so lost in thought, she didn’t even notice him.
“You seem to have the weight of the world on your shoulders, Luka. You need to find someone who’ll help carry such a heavy burden. I’m not that girl and I know I could never be that girl for you. I don’t know how to convince you of that either,” she whispered to him then looking up at the ceiling. Part of Jiyong was happy she didn’t want anything to do with him, but her voice held a sense of pain and heartbreak all in one.
“You know he’s sleeping right,” Jiyong announced himself softly. He might as well let her know, he had heard her. He already knew a lot of other things too. She smiled looking at him, and nodded her head. Of course she knew he was sleeping, he had his head in her lap. It was bothering Jiyong more than he wanted to admit.
“It looks like you guys are close,” he knew he was stating the obvious. Great job, Jiyongah, keep talking.
“Did you two date,” yup the questions were getting even better. The truth was he wanted see if she would hesitate in the answering the question. To his surprise she didn’t.
“Yea, Luka, Tonya, and I did date for a little bit,” she answered, looking him square in the eyes. He wasn’t done testing her, yet.
“You and Luka and you and Tonya, right,” he asked. He knew that was the case, because he’d gotten far enough in her journal to know. As she nodded her head, she smiled again. Apparently, she was happy about something.
Jiyong couldn’t figure out, exactly what to say next, so he said what he thought after reading her journal. They’d all known each other since they were kids, naturally one would feel safe around people they know, and it seemed like Nita had a very intimate circle of friends, growing up. “I guess that’s to be expected,” he replied.

“It’s my curse,” she said, now looking down at Luka as she continued caressing his head, “since I could understand my feelings, I’ve always like two people at the same time. Growing up it was Tonya and Luka. Recently it was Aidan and Nathan, they were brothers. Even today, it’s still two. Only once did I fall for one guy and that’s my infamous Mystery Man,” she softly finished. Jiyong guessed she lowered her voice because of the guy, whose head was still in her lap. Sleeping, Luka rolled over on his side, hugging Nita’s waist and snuggling closer into her stomach. Jiyong thought about kicking the couch to wake the asshole up, but as he looked at Nita, who was looking at Luka, he could see nothing but pain and hurt in her eyes. For a minute he sat there, wondering what else her smiles and good nature were hiding.
In the entire time, he had spent with her, not once did he see such a pained look on her face. It made him want to go to her and hug her. It made him want to go to her and cry for her.
“It’s late, don’t you think you should go back to bed,” she asked, now looking at him. Jiyong figured she wanted to be alone, but he really didn’t want to leave her alone. He still didn’t know what to do with all the information he had found out today. But he did know one thing, his feelings for her were only growing stronger. He hadn’t liked seeing her so scared during their first photo shoot. He hadn’t liked watching other guys trying to get her attention. He hadn’t liked her dancing with other guys. And he definitely hadn’t liked her talking about kissing the living life out of a guy while racking her nails over said guy's chocolate abs. And now he knew, he never wanted to see her in pain either.
“Yeah, I think I better get some sleep, it’s going to be a long day tomorrow,” he replied. Despite everything he knew now, he still wanted to be around her. Siwon was ready to beat the living shit out of him, when he wasn’t sure. But this little conversation with her had changed his perspective. Or maybe that’s what he wanted to think. What was she doing to him?
