The Roller Coaster That Is Life

Chapter 31: Reflection

Nita's POV
Nita was sitting at the bar surrounding the kitchen with a cup of coffee. She had sobered up so quick after seeing TopCat standing there and her friends touch his face like he was a statue. He had just stood there with an amused expression.
Sighing she took another sip of her coffee. What was she going to say to the girls? What she going to say to the guys? To the guys, she was just a member of the "The Fan Girls." A fan of k-pop, nothing more. But to her girls she was so much more. A friend, a confidant, a partner. She couldn't cast them aside, just because she felt this to be a safer place.
"Hey, I know I'm late, but happy late birthday," came a voice from over her shoulder.
It was Sanju.
"No worries, thanks," she said, giving him a hug.
"What's the matter," he asked, taking in her expression, "it's your birthday and you look like the world is falling apart in front of your eyes," he was watching as he finished speaking. It might as well, Nita thought.
"The girls are here," Nita said as way of explanation.
"Yea, Tonya called me for the address," he responded.
"So why didn't you give me a heads up," she asked. He could have given her a warning.
"I figured some familiar faces would be my gift to you," he said smiling. Of course, he saw that she missed her friends. She shook her head.
"I hadn't told them about my job and roommates," she said.
"Something happen," he worriedly asked.
She nodded her head.
"We were fan girl-ing over the idols. I thought the guys would be coming home late. They caught us fan girl-ing and the girls found out about my job and roommates. It wasn't as if I wasn't going to tell them, I just thought I had some time. I wanted to spend time with them before I told them, so they wouldn't fan girl me," Nita replied.
"This isn't about the girls finding out," Sanju said looking at her, "this is about the guys finding out who you really are."
Once again he hit the nail right on the head. Her two worlds were beginning to come into interaction, it was only a matter of time, before they all knew who and what she was. Things would change once they knew the truth.
"I hate you," Nita responded.
"I know you love me, and I know better than anyone else," Sanju answered back. "Have you talked to them at all," he asked.
"Not yet, everything just kind of exploded once the guys showed. Everyone's sleeping now, I just couldn't fall asleep," she answered, looking at her almost finished cup of coffee.
Sanju looked at her questioningly.
"What's wrong, Sanju, I don't like that look," Nita asked, not sure what was going on in his head.
"I'm not sure if this is going to help matters," he responded.
"Just get to the point!" she interjected. This was getting her more amped up, and that was the last thing she needed.
"I'm not sure, but I think I saw Luka in a car parked out front," Sanju said.
"What!!!" Nita yelled. Sanju immediately covered her mouth with his hand.
"The others are sleeping," he aggressively whispered.
She nodded her head, letting him know she had calmed down a bit. Then quickly fixed the cover up she was wearing and made her way out the front door. She made her was down the steps and to the sidewalk, looking for a vehicle of any kind. Since this wasn't home, she couldn't look for his car.
"So this is where you've been," came a deep voice from her left. She'd know that voice anywhere, it still had the power of sending shivers down her spine.
"Luka," she said, because that was all she could say. "Happy Birthday."
"Nita, should you really run out in that," Sanju asked, bringing G's jacket. Figures her friend would bring the jacket of one the guys she was into.
"Looks like you have a good eye, Sanju," she said taking the coat and nodded towards Luka.
"So it was you," Sanju said.
"How are things going Sanjay, or should I say SJ," Luka harshly remarked.
"Luka," Nita reprimanded.
"And Miss Assistant Manager/Choreographer," Luka continued.
"You done," Nita asked, "if not can you continue this inside," she gestured to the open door of the house. He looked at her, not saying another word he made his way up the steps and into the house.
"He's pissed," Sanju whispered to her. Thank you Captain Oblivious, like she hadn't figured that out.
"I'm guessing everyone is sleeping," Luka said, making his way to kitchen. "I'm hungry, Nita," he sounded worn out.
"I'll warm up some chicken spaghetti for you," she said smiling and going to the fridge door.
"Aren't you going to ask, how I found you," Luka asked watching her. She just went about getting the food warm for him.
"I'm not stupid Luka, I'm sure you followed Tonya," she answered, while setting the time for the microwave.
"Am I that predictable," he asked, now looking around the dark house.
"I've known you since we were kids," Nita replied.
"How could you not tell me where you were going," he asked. Well, Luka never ran around the subject. She expected a similar question from the others tomorrow.
"You know why I couldn't," she replied. He knew that once she told the girls and him things wouldn't have stayed quite for long, so she had to leave without saying anything to anyone.
"Your mother," he answered. She smirked, how could her mother still be controlling her life when she was a million miles away.
"Let's not talk about his right now," she smiled and placed the hot plate of food in front of him. Going to the fridge she pulled out a can of beer and placed in next to his plate. As she watched him eat, she made her way back to the fridge and pulled out a cake.
"Happy Birthday, Luka," she said, smiling at him.
"You made him a cake, but not one for yourself," Sanju asked incredulously.
"You know we celebrate our birthdays one after the other," she replied. "I'm going to go wake up the others," she said, making her way up stairs to her room.
Nita just shook her head as she went up the stairs, the only other person missing was Bhai and his family.
She didn't bother with the quiet wake up method. She flipped on the lights, flooding the room with bright white light. As she walked around she kicked whoever was closest to her feet and in the way.
"Wake up and come down stairs in the kitchen," she spoke in a normal voice, but her tone breaking no argument.
"Yea, we'll be there in a minute," mumbled Tonya.
Nita went back downstairs and found Luka cleaning up and Sanju sitting at the counter. Apparently she was the topic of discussion.
"Did you honestly think she would put any of you at risk," Sanju asked looking at Luka.
"She should know we can handle ourselves," Luka replied.
"And you also know she protects the people she cares about, at any cost, even if it's to herself," Sanju replied, "you're only thinking about you. Think about what she's gone through. Leaving her home and coming to a new place, where she's met new people and his growing as a person. She's worried that everyone being here is only putting you guys and everyone else she knows at the edge of her mother's wrath," Sanju said.
"Why doesn't she say that," Luka asked, "I know that's what she's doing, but it doesn't mean I have to like it or agree with it."
"I feel like I'm repeating myself," Sanju said.
"You two need to stop talking about me when I'm not around, it's not nice," Nita said, wanting to make her presence known.
"Did they wake up," asked Sanju.
"They'll be down in a little bit," Nita answered. Sitting down in one of the bar stools, looking back and forth at the two guys. She decided to ask the question she already knew the answer to.
"With everyone being here, it's only a matter of time before mom finds me, right," she asked. It wasn't exactly fear that gripped her at asking the question out loud. It was the fact that it was the truth.
"What's the big id........ea. . . . .," Ty trailed off, when she saw the three of them in the kitchen.
"Luka," Tonya's surprise wasn't a surprise. Sometimes the girl didn't know she left trails of breadcrumbs.
"I don't know why you're so surprised when you charged your plane ticket on my card," Luka responded.
Nita couldn't help but laugh. "Figures." All the girls were sleepily making their way down the stairs.
"I woke you all up, so we can cut his cake. Since everyone's here, I figured we might as well do things like we used too," she said making her way around the counter to put the candles in the cake and then lite the candles. They all sang Luka the Happy Birthday song. Luka cut his cake and fed Nita a bite first and then did the same with Tonya, eating the little piece that was left over.
"You owe me a dance and a kiss, like always," Luka said with a stone expression. You would think the guy would be happy on his birthday, but his expression stayed the same.
"Now since everyone is sleeping, we can talk," Angel said, sounding more wake than before. Nita looked around at them all, they were nodding their heads. Well, now's a good time as any, she thought.
"Start from the beginning," Luka said, sitting down next to her.
"You all know what happened at home," she looked at everyone, they nodded their heads. "Well, I decided to come here, because it would have been the last place anyone would have looked for me. After coming here, I met Siwon, who helped me out with a place to stay. I applied for jobs at different companies and got hired by YG, and that's how I started working as assistant to Big Bang," she finished it as quickly as possible, there really wasn't much else to tell.
Lair. . . . .okay so there was more to it then she let on, but those details weren't necessary to tell them.
"Why not tell any of us," Angelina asked.
"Telling anyone of you meant you guys were targets for my mother," she replied.
"And you think we can't handle ourselves," asked Kaitlin.
"You know that's not the case," Nita replied to the accusation, then turned her head to Luka.
"Since you've known me, has my mother ever been decent with any of you," Nita asked. Her frustrations on the verge of boiling over. "You all know she wants me gone, and not the leaving and never coming back kind," she looked at them all, none of them arguing that fact. "I missed all of you so much, but even if it's for a little while, I found some small amount of peace and happiness. Not having to worry about a constant threat was a mild relief. Going to my room at home, meant I always had to check and make sure, there weren't snakes or shards of glass in my bed, slippers, bathroom, and any other place I used. Here, I still do that out of habit. I'm sure I looked like a weirdo when they see me do things like that. You all know that little drama was my father's way of providing me an escape route for a little bit. Even he knew that it wasn't going to last long." She wanted to throw a tantrum, as happy as she was to see her friends. She wished they had never showed up, because now she did have to look over her shoulder. She constantly had to make sure she wasn't being followed by one of her mother's men. She constantly had to make sure that others with her didn't become targets because of her. Luka, Sanju, and the girls could manage themselves, but the same could not said about G, Siwon, T, V, D, and TopCat, along with the others. She sighed.
"I never wanted to be the daughter of mob boss, let alone the first born," she whispered. "You guys can at least handle yourselves, but everyone I know here are normal people. What's going to happen when they find out who I am and what my family does," she asked no one.
"Which two are they," asked Tonya.
Nita looked at Tonya with a disbelief. How did she figure it out, she had tried so hard to hid it.
"Which two," Nita asked pretending not to understand.
"Which two are you in love with, Nita," Luka clarified. She was looking at Luka now. "You only think about what people think when you're afraid of losing someone," he further clarified.
"Two again," Kaitlin asked.
"Can't you be normal and just fall for one guy," Ty asked, immediately covering her mouth with her hand. Tonya hit her in the back of her head.
"Apparently not," Nita said, wondering once again if something was wrong with her.
"She did fall for one guy once," Kammie replied.
"Mystery man," some of them said in unison.
That didn't make her feel any better. Sometimes her friends just didn't understand her. She loved them to bits but sometimes she wished they would just disappear and let her figure things out.
"Maybe we're thinking too much into this, nothing's happened yet, right?" asked Angel.
Nita thought about that question. Angel was right, nothing had happened yet, which meant her mother didn't know shit. She was worrying over nothing. Yea, right, you know something's coming.
"You still haven't answered the question, Nita," Tonya pointed out. Nita wasn't sure she wanted to. If she kept the answer to herself, it wouldn't be real, right?
They all watched her, she was looking anywhere but at them.
"I think it's time for us to go to sleep, we don't need to stress about this. Nita's happy, then we should all be," Sanju announced. Nita threw Sanju a thankful glance. She didn't want to talk about G and Siwon. They were here for the weekend and they should just enjoy it together. There was no point in talking about her past. This was her present and she was happy in it for as long as it lasted.
G-Dragon's POV
Jiyong had gotten up to use the bathroom. All the food and water had wanted out of his system. He had gone into Nita's room to make sure she was okay. She had had a lot of shots, and he wanted to make sure she wasn't sick. He was surprised to find her room empty when he walked in. He noticed the entrance door was left ajar, making his way out of Nita's room and into the balcony that over looked over the front door to the house.
"Where did they all go," Siwon asked, following Jiyong out. He wasn't the only who was worried about Nita.
"I think they're downstairs," Jiyong replied.
"You don't think they started another drinking game do you," Siwon asked. Jiyong didn't answer the question, he started making his way down the stairs.
"I never wanted to be the daughter of a mob boss," came Nita's voice. Jiyong stopped in his tracks. He was sure he hadn't heard right. The daughter of a mob boss? He looked at Siwon, looking for something that said they heard two different things.
"The daughter of a mob boss," Siwon asked with a shocked expression. So they had heard the same thing.
"Which two are they," Tonya asked. Jiyong's ears perked up at Tonya's tone, she sounded jealous. So maybe he hadn't thought wrong about them.
"Which two," Nita replied in her innocent voice. Jiyong was familiar with that voice. She had used it when she wanted to avoid questions about her past that the others asked her. Which made complete sense now.
"Which two are you in love with, Nita. You only think about what people think when you're afraid of losing someone," said another male voice. Jiyong didn't recognize the deep tone.
"Two again," Kaitlin whined. He was beginning to pick up on her mild accent. It was becoming easier to pick out her voice from the group.
"Can't you be normal and just fall for one guy," Ty wasn't far behind on the whining. Jiyong wasn't sure what he wanted to do first. Question the statement Ty just asked, or be mad about the judgmental-ness of it.
"I think we need to talk," Siwon said, pointing to Jiyong and himself. The look on Siwon's face surprised him, it was serious and pleading. Jiyong wasn't expecting the pleading part of the look. Jiyong nodded his head.
Quietly they both made their way back to Jiyong's room. Thankfully when the room sharing list was decided Jiyong and Siwon had won the rock, paper, scissors game of not having to share with the others. Downside to that. . . .they still had to share one room. They both walked into his bedroom. As Siwon walked in, he closed and locked the door behind him, just as quickly he walked into the bathroom, closing the door to Nita's room and closed the door to Jiyong's room. Jiyong figured Siwon wanted to talk about what both of them had just heard.
"I need an honest answer for every question I'm going to ask you," Siwon said. Jiyong nodded his head.
"Do you like Nita," Siwon asked. What a stupid question, he already knew that. Jiyong nodded his head.
"Do you think you love Nita," he asked. Jiyong hadn't thought about that. He knew he was attracted to her. Again Jiyong nodded his head.
"Then let's share her," Siwon said.
Jiyong did a double take, what did he just say. "She's not a toy to share," Jiyong replied.
"Did you not just listen to the conversation they were having," Siwon asked pointing towards the carpet. "Tonya clearly asked her which two people Nita was in love with. You cannot tell me you don't know that it's us."
Okay, so Jiyong was being obtuse. He knew what Siwon was trying to say, but it still seemed like he knew more about Nita than Jiyong did. And that didn't go well with Jiyong.
"You didn't seem to pick up on the fact that she's a mob boss's daughter," Jiyong said. He really didn't know how to take that. He liked a dangerous man's daughter. How dangerous was Nita? Did Sangnim know about this? What would happen if this got out? His career would be over, did he really want to risk that?
"So she's a mob boss's daughter, that doesn't change the person we know. She's still the sweet , aggressively sexy dancer we know and love," Siwon said smiling. "Plus I'm sure if she had other motives, she would have taken care of it by now."
For some reason Jiyong couldn't let the thought of her being a mob boss's daughter go. She came from a world that was dangerous and hurt innocent people. How many people had she hurt or killed? The black thought swirled in his mind.
"The look on your face is telling me, you're thinking the worst," Siwon stated.
"How can you be thinking about anything else? You want to share a woman like that? Do you honestly think she's capable of caring for people?" Jiyong's accusations were stabbing as he stated them. He knew he wasn't being fair to her, but he didn't know what else to do. He had feelings for her, but this new fact changed how he saw her.
"You've spent time with her, how can you say that. You've seen the love she gives to those kids at Safe House. You've seen the way she takes care of everyone around her. You can't blame her for being born into something," Siwon's angry was rising. "Fine, maybe this will change your mind," Siwon left the room, going through the bathroom into Nita's bedroom.
When he came back, he was holding a pink leather bound book in his hand. "This book is the only advantage I had against you. The fact that you're questioning her character simply from the fact that she's the daughter of a mob boss is really pissing me off. You're looking at her title right now, not at her." Siwon finished handing him the book.
"What about sharing her," Jiyong asked.
"I think you need to read that before we talk about anything else. You need to understand where she's coming from before you make your judgment calls based on one overheard conversation." Siwon said, making his way back to his futon on the floor.
"Oh, and don't think too much about the sharing her comment, because if this is how you see her, you don't deserve her and she's not worth your attention," he icily announced.
Jiyong didn't know what to think. He looked at the leather bound book in his hand, he wasn't going to get any sleep tonight anyways, with his mind being occupied. He opened it and looked at the first page. On the center of the page, in feminine script it read:
This journal belongs to Nita Singh, The Daughter.
With the date the entry had been written in the top right hand corner of the page. So Siwon had given Jiyong Nita's journal.
"Keep reading, you're mentioned in the fourth or fifth entry," Siwon's back was to him as he said that.
Nita liked writing long entries. And Jiyong had to admit, she was telling her life's story, and those stories weren't short tales to tell.
As he finished reading the fourth entry, he had learned more about her from this little book, than he had in all the time that he's spent with her. Which wasn't much, according to him. Siwon had been right, he was just looking at her title, not at her. He turned the page to the fifth entry.
So today I was googling more information on k-pop and came across a new group called Big Bang. The group has five members; I'll list them from the hottest to the cutest just for you. So their names are, Choi Seunghyun, Dong Youngbae, Kwon Jiyong, Lee Seunghyun, and Kang Daesung. They all have the coolest stage names too, T.O.P, , G-Dragon, Seungri, and Daesung. Okay, so Daesung kept his name the same, but it's still cool. I know why, but Kwon Jiyong reminds me so much of my mystery man, I don't know if I'll ever meet him again. Maybe once I start making some real money, I'll go back every year, maybe we might cross paths again someday. Anyways, so I'm really getting into their music now; and even created some choreography. It's hard to believe that these guys are helping me through my hardship. They don't even know how they're helping. There cute antics make me smile. I know the girls and Luka try to make me smile too, but sometimes I can see the pity and sadness in their eyes for me. At least when I watch, Seungri carrying Jiyong and both of them are laughing and having a good time, I can smile because they're smiling, and because they can't see me. I guess it's a good thing I'll never meet them for real, right? I've left a picture of the group at the end. I really liked this one because everyone else looks normal while G's acting like a little diva. It makes me smile every time I see it. Well, I have to head out now, the guys are waiting for me to start training. The days are looking better now, hopefully mother won't come by today. Oh and last thing, what is your idea about a dragon tattoo on my scar. I can incorporate my love of books and k-pop all in one. I'm going to think about it, for sure. See ya.
Nita
So that had been a reason behind her tattoo. Jiyong didn't know what to do. After reading the first couple of entries, he realized she hadn't lived a life of complete luxury. She had constant power struggles with her family, and he was sure when he read on he would find more difficult things to read. But reading this, didn't change who she was, she was still the daughter of a mob boss.
