The Roller Coaster That Is Life

Chapter 19: Kids, Kids, Kids, Everywhere!!

Nita's POV

Two Days Later

Nita was in the kitchen cleaning up the big bowl she'd just prepared the cake batter in. Once again she was reminded her birthday was coming up soon. She smiled to herself. The cake she was baking wasn't for herself. It was for the kids at Safe House.

She had completely forgotten about Safe House. She could have stayed there, when she came to Korea. Needless to say, she was utterly surprised when she literally ran pass the building one morning. She had decided to run a little extra to see what was around the house. Turned out Safe House wasn't far from the neighborhood she was staying in.

That morning she had walked into Safe House, everyone was so surprised. She had gotten ran over by the kids, and the moms and dads were equally surprised. Since then, she had been visiting on some of her days off. The kids had a long list of things they wanted to eat, so today she was filling in one of those orders. Plus, she needed to get out of the house for something other than running or working.

As she finished rinsing off the last soapy dish, she dried her hands and checked on the cake in the oven. It was almost done. She had gotten the icing ready while she had been mixing the cake. Now she was putting the icing in a piling bag.

"What's the occasion," G asked walking towards the fridge.

"Nothing, it was a request," Nita said, her attention on filling the piling bag.

"For," G asked.

"The kids at Safe House," Nita answered, she set the piling bags off to the side.

"You have the day off, right," G asked leaning against the countertop.

"Hmmm," she answered, her attention on the strawberry filling for the cake she was working on.

"You mind if I come with you," he asked her, taking a sip from the water bottle he pulled out of the fridge.

"Sure, no problem. I've still have a lot to do while the cake is cooling. I'll call for you when I'm ready to go," she said, stilling focused on the filling. She dipped her finger into the cooking jam.

It needed a little more sugar. She reached for one of the doors and without looking reached inside to grab the container of sugar.

"It's on the counter next to the pot you're working on," a voice said from the bar.
Nita turned around to see Siwon taking off his coat and setting it on one of the bar stools. She smiled at him and turned back around to add the sugar.

"Smells good, what's all this for," he asked. She didn't know what he was pointing at. She figured it was probably something cake related that was on the island table.

"It's for the cake I'm baking," she answered, still focusing on filling. She tasted the filling one more time, before setting it a side for cooling.

"Is it your birthday," Siwon asked.

"Nope," she answered.

"Then," he asked. Clearly, he didn't want to play a guessing game, again.

"It's for the kids at Safe House," she answered. The cake still needed to cool more, before she could start frosting it. She poured the mildly warm filling into a bowl and cover it with saranwrap, then placed it in the fridge.

"Safe House," Siwon asked.

"It's a safe house, for victims of violence," Nita tried to clarify. The last thing she wanted to tell him was the truth. Safe House was her little baby. After the realization of her dad's business struck her, she had decided things needed to change. Turned out being the daughter of the Hindu mafia had its benefits. She had spoken with her father and they had established Safe House. She was proud to say that her father never forced her to become part of the family business. But in the end, she had decided to join. Even with all the bad, there was still good in that world. She wasn't sure if her new friends would understand that. So she kept that part of her life away from them.

When she was in the states, she had always made an effort to keep updates on the houses. She really couldn't believe she'd forgotten there was one in Korea. She shook her head. How dumb could she be?

"Nita, Nita," Siwon was lightly shaking her shoulders, bring her back to the kitchen.

"I'm sorry, what," she asked, missing what he had said.

"I asked if you were going alone," he said, looking at her.

"No, G asked if he could come," she answered, turning back around to check the cake. It was cool enough to work with now. She made her way back to the fridge and checked on the filling, it was ready too. She brought everything she needed to the island table and started working.

"You mind if come," he asked.

"Come where," G asked walking back into the kitchen.

"Safe House," Nita answered, she was done leveling the two pieces of cake. She placed one round piece on the cardboard using some icing to secure the piece of cake to the cardboard.

"You sure, either one of you should come," she asked not looking at them, she had layered the filling between the two pieces and now was starting the next layer.

"Why," both of the asked at the same time.

"You're famous, should you be visiting help facilities without your company's approval," she asked. They didn't seem to think about that aspect. They would be endorsing any establishment they visit. Plus the kids at Safe House were fans of both Super Junior and Big Bang, there was no way they wouldn't recognize them.

She risked a glance at them. They were looking questioningly at each other. She had to hide her smile. Sometimes they just didn't think.

"I don't think Sangnim would mind," G said, tilting his head up, challenging Siwon to argue. Nita again had to hide her laughter.

She tried to stay focused on icing the cake now, it was becoming a bit difficult with the two guys in front of her.

"It's fine. I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem. Plus security at Safe House is top notch. So even if someone saw you walk in, they wouldn't be able to come in," she answered, focused on evening out the side of the cake she was working on.

"If security is top notch, how did you get in," Siwon asked. She almost dropped the spatula she was working with. She'd slipped up.

"I ran into one the kids who had wandered out," she tried to cover her tracks, hopefully they would believe it.

"We're both coming with you," Siwon added.

This was going to be an interesting day, Nita thought. She was almost done piping the bottom border now.

"Did you take cake decorating classes or something," G asked, walking to the island table.

"Nope, trial and error. You should have seen the very first cake I made. It ended up tipping to one side," she said, smiling. She could still remember that cake. It was similar to the one she was working on now. Except it was vanilla instead of chocolate and the filling was whipped cream. She had frosted the cake to early, melting some of the whipped cream. And the whipped cream had needed to be whipped a bit more, which didn't help when the cake had actually tipped to one side. Her older brother had been so sweet about it. He had still eaten it.

"You're saying you learned on your own," Siwon asked, looking at her with surprise.

"Yea, I guess you could say that. It was mostly trial and error, every once in a while I used
YouTube videos to learn new things," she answered. She added the finishing touches of balloons for the kids on the top.

"There, all done. Now I just have to get ready," she said, quickly cleaning up and putting things up.

"Just give me a couple of minutes to change and we can head out," she said, putting a lid on the container for the cake.

It didn't take long for her to change, she'd already pulled out a pair of jeans and light yellow v neck tee. Making her way back down stairs, she saw G and Siwon, "Kaja, we don't have very far to go," she said, grabbing the container of cake.

"Who are you riding with," G asked. She hadn't thought about that, she'd usually just walked to Safe House.

"I usually just walk," Nita answered, shrugging her shoulders.

"Why don't we all just walk then," Siwon said, taking the container from her and holding it.

"Thanks," she said, "but it's almost 4 miles." She wasn't sure if either of them wanted to take such a long walk.

"We can take my car then," Siwon said, trying to hold the container with one hand and hunt for his keys in his pockets.

Nita reached over and took the container back, "I'll just take that, I don't want you to ruin all my hard work."

"Kaja, I don't want to keep the kids waiting." Nita headed towards the door, while G and Siwon followed her out.

The trip to Safe House didn't take long. Upon arrival, Nita didn't wait for anyone to open the door for her, she quickly opened the door and scurried out of the car. She was excited to see the kids.

She didn't have much time to get the cake out of her hands, before the kids saw her. About the time she reached the door, the kids had reached it too.

"Statue!" she yelled, and all the kids froze on the spot. Thank God, she thought. It would have been a disaster otherwise.

She handed to container to one of the moms standing by the door, "It chocolate cake, for the kids," she said as a way of explanation.

"What's going on, you couldn't wait for us," G asked walking up to her.

"Don't take off the mask," she said. Nita didn't want the surprise to be ruined. "I'll explain in a minute, first I have to release them." She turned back to the kids.

"You might want to move out of the way," one of the mothers said.
Nita took a couple of steps inside the doorway, and said, "Un-statue!" She lightly dropped to her knees expecting the kids to come running. That they did, each one of them running to her at the same time, nearly bulldozing her over on the ground.

"Noona!!!"

"Unnie!!"

"We missed you, Noona!!"

"I missed you more!!"

Nita didn't care that she was plastered on the floor and was having trouble breathing now too, these kids always showed her unconditional love. After a couple of minutes they let her get up.

Min Na looked at her and then hid behind her leg looking past Nita at the two masked figures. As soon as Min Na noticed G and Siwon the others did too. Min Na was a shy little girl and had seen more then she should have at the young age of 5, but she loved watching Siwon on TV.

"Noona, who are they," Suk Min asked her. Suk was a 4 year old boy, who fancied himself, her boyfriend, but the little boy loved Big Bang.

"They're my friends, who've come to visit everyone," Nita lowered herself down. "I think you'll like them more than you'll like me."

"Noona, I love you. I will always like you more," Suk Min said, placing both hands on the side of her face.

"Unnie, who are they?" Gi Hye asked hiding behind her. Both Min Na and Gi Hye were sharing the space to hide.

Nita looked towards G and Siwon. She couldn't see their smiles, but from the looks in their eyes, she knew she was going to hear about this later. She shrugged her shoulders, she loved these kids, so she didn't care what she had to deal with later.

"You all know of them," she said adding excitement to her voice.

"Noona, I don't talk to guys. I only like pretty girls," Suk Min said. That little four year old was going to grow up and become a flirt. He was lucky he was so cute, she could never take him seriously.

"No, I know you'll like at least one of them. You told me he was your hyung, you wanted to be just like him," Nita added emphasis to 'hyung,' trying to give him a hint.

"The only person I'll ever call hyung is GD hyung," Suk Min proudly announced.
Nita looked at G and back at Suk Min, "Why don't you go take that guy's mask off," she said to Suk Min. The little boy walked up to G, G squatted down to the little boy's height and offered him his face.

Nita watched as Suk Min slipped off G's mask. The look of surprise was priceless. "GD hyung!!" Suk Min exclaimed, not wasting anytime hugging his favorite idol. Nita couldn't hide her smile. G looked really adorable hugging Suk Min.

"Unnie, who's the other one," Min Na asked, peeking out her head.

"Why don't you go find out," Nita said smiling, moving the girl out from behind, and gently pushing her towards Siwon.

Min Na shyly made her way to him, timidly looking back at Nita with every step. Nita nodded encouragingly. Siwon squatted down to Min Na's level. Min Na looked at Nita once more, Nita nodded and gestured at pulling on a mask. Min Na looked at Siwon and asked, "Is it okay, if I take off your mask? You're some really ugly person right?"

Nita couldn't help but laugh out loud, figures Min Na would say something like that.
At same time, G was trying hard to hide his laughter, but it wasn't working.
Siwon just kind of squatted there, no sure what to do. Which only made Nita laugh harder.

"Min Na!" her mother scolded.

"It's alright, Min Na Amma. It's good for his ego," Nita answered, still going on with fits of laughter.

"Neh, real good," G added.

After a couple of minutes when she could control her laughter she looked at Min Na. "We're still waiting, Min Na, you need to take his mask off."

Min Na timidly reached for the fabric on Siwon's face. The look on her face was priceless as well. "Oppa!!!" she immediately latched on to him. Nita immediately felt a pang of jealously. She shook her head. There was no reason for her to be jealous!! And of a little girl!! She kept shaking her head.

"Are you alright," Suk Min's Appa asked.

"Neh, gwenchanah," she answered, getting back on her feet.

"Noona, can I go say hello to GD oppa, too," Gi Hye asked quietly.

Nita squatted down again asking, "Why would you ask me that?"

"Suk Min oppa is with GD oppa," Gi Hye stated. Nita had forgotten that Gi Hye liked Suk Min, but Suk Min was always mean to her.

"Of course you can, SUK MIN CAN'T HOG GD OPPA!!" Nita emphasized the last part, making sure Suk Min heard her.

"No one's hogging me," G answered, looking at Gi Hye, "I could use another hug," he promoted. Gi Hye immediately ran towards him and hugged him.

Nita watched the interaction between the children and the two men. Just watching them, she knew they would be wonderful fathers to their own children. She was smiling at the thought.

"You all should come on in," Suk Min's Appa said.

She turned around and started making her way in. Siwon and G following in with the children.

Then realization had just dawned on her. "Where's Yong Min," she asked.

"He's sleeping off a fever," Min Na's Amma answered. Yong Min was the only child in the house, who had lost both his parents to violence. He was the one who had asked Nita to make the cake.

"I'll just go check on him. If he's up for it, I'll bring him down," she said to no one in particular as she made her way to the second level of the building, where the bedroom were at.

Nita didn't have to ask where Yong Min was at, she knew. As she made her way into the room, she saw his form under the covers. She quietly went to him and sat down on the edge of the bed, touching his forehead. His temperature was down, but his face was still sweating a little.
There was a hint of a smile on his face as Nita stroked his forehead.

"Hummmmm," Yong Min mumbled. His smile widening as he slept.

"I hope all your dreams are sweet," Nita whispered, kissing his forehead. She was attached to him. Every time she looked at him, she saw nothing but age in his eyes. The kid had to grow up faster than he needed too. It was one of the things she hated about her dad's business. To many people were hurt in the process. She had to keep reminding herself, these weren't her father's victims. The families here were victims of syndicates of Asia, Japan and China's mostly.

"Noona,. . . . . .you're here," Yong Min said sleepily English.

"Yea, I'm here. How are you feeling?" she asked.

"You don't need to worry so much, I'm fine," he answered getting up, "You always treat me like
I'm a child, why," he asked.

Yong Min was 12 years old, and to Nita he was like a little brother. It's how she had treated her own brothers too. It was something she was pre-programmed with. She couldn't help it.

"You're like family to me," she answered by way of explanation.

"Isn't everyone here like family to you," he asked.

"Yea, but you remind me of my brothers," Nita said.

"I've been meaning to ask for some time now . . . ." he said, looking at her hesitantly, "why did you have to leave your family," he asked.

"It's complicated," Nita answered. It was the only answer she could give. He wasn't mature enough to understand the details.

"I've heard everyone talking about how great of a boss you'd be if you decide to take over your father's business," he said bluntly.

Nita did a double take. She didn't think the parents talked about her in front of the kids. She was sure they were always careful around the kids.

"You heard or you eavesdropped," she asked eyeing him.

He looked guiltily at her. "I figured you'd have eavesdropped, that's bad manners you know," she said.

"I know, but I was curious," he answered.

"You feel good enough to come down," she asked, trying to change the subject. The last thing she wanted to talk about was her family business.

"Yea, I'm kind of hungry too," he said, removing the blanket and making his way off the bed.

"Come on, I made cake," she said smiling. Instantly Yong Min's somber face was transformed into a princely one. The kid really did look like a prince when he smiled.

On some of the days she had come to visit, she would over hear the mothers and staff talk about his princely face and smile. Nita couldn't help but think, he was going to break a lot of hearts growing up.

"What's with the smile," Yong Min asked as they made their way down the stairs.

"Nothing," she said, still smiling. "I was wondering, . . . ." she said, "who do you like better, Super Junior or Big Bang," she asked.

"Neither," he answered immediately, "they're all guys, why."
"No reason," Nita answered, "I was just curious."

As they came down and made their way into the play area, they were bombarded with screaming, cheering, and yelling.

Nita couldn't believe her eyes as she stood watching what was going on.
There in the play area, was a horseback race between G-horse and S-horse. Min Ha on Siwon's back yelling, "Paale Ka!!! S-horse, Paale Ka!!!" and Gi Hye on G's back, yelling, "Ka, Ka, Ka, Ka, G-horse, Ka, ka, ka, ka, we have to win!!" While both guys were trying to out crawl the other. Nita was laughing, she couldn't believe it. Suk Min was cheering on the side line for G. Nita figured she could cheer for Siwon since he didn't have any other outside fan.

"Wooo, giddy up S-horse!!" She yelled, smiling and jumping up and down.

"Noona!!" both Suk Min and Yong Min said at the same time.

"Why would you cheer for S-horse!!" Suk Min whined.

"Why would you cheer for this, period." Yong Min asked looking at Nita like she'd lost her mind.

"It's for fun," she answered them both.

"Cheer for G-horse," Suk Min said heatedly.

"You're cheering for G-horse, someone has to cheer for S-horse too," she answered whiningly.

Both G and Siwon were still making circles around the room. Nita decided to stop their torture, they were sweating like you wouldn't believe.

"Okay, okay, I think the horses need to be watered and feed now. They have been working hard to win this race, they need a break too," Nita announced.

"Awwwwwww," both girls whaled.

"How about we have a real game," Nita said, the idea instantly forming in her head. It was nice warm day and a little fun with water never hurt anyone.

"Min Na Amma, we still have the balloons from last time right," Nita asked looking at Min Na's mom.

"Neh, I can get them for you," she answered and left the room.

"I'll go to the market and get some watermelon," Gi Hye's Appa said, grabbing a set of keys off the table and walking out the door.

Nita loved these people, she never had to explain herself to them. They always understood what she was trying to do.

"We're going to have a water balloon fight," Yong Min announced. Nita had wanted to make the announcement, but she just shrugged her shoulders.

"But. . ." Yong Min paused for dramatic effect, "there's a twist to this game," his smile as he said the next part, broadened to a full on mischievous smirk, "in this game there's one rule, whoever you hit, you have to kiss," he said proudly.

Nita did a double take, hopefully that ultimatum was set for the two little girls and hopefully all the boys understood that. She risked a glance in Suk Min's direction. He was looking at her with a new determination. She shook her head, now she had to try her best to escape any balloons thrown by the little boy. For a four year old, the kid had good aim. The same determination was in Gi Hye's eyes as she looked towards Suk Min. Nita knew she had to aim to get Suk Min in Gi Hye's line of shot during the game. As she looked around the room both G and Siwon were exchanging rather aggressive looks towards each other. But then both looked at her and a sly grin crept onto their faces.

No, Nita told herself, they wouldn't be planning on taking her down. This was a game for the kids, not a challenge for them.

Nita walked up to Yong Min and elbowed him, "What's the big idea," she murmured.

Yong Min smirked at her, "those two like you," he stated.

She glared at him, "you're insane, they're my friends," Nita reasoned.

"Yea, you keep believing that," Yong Min retorted, "the way they look at you when you're not looking says something completely different," he added. "Then the way you look at them. . . . . . . . .it doesn't seem like that," he said, "let's see if what I think is true." Yong Min said. For a twelve year old, the kid was intuitive.

And so the game began.

It didn't take long for everyone to make their way to the back yard. Before she knew it, she was running this way and that, trying to avoid getting hit.

She made her way to the fence of the back yard, pausing to catch her breath. Within seconds she was back on the run again. Siwon had caught up to her and was aiming a balloon at her, followed by Suk Min and G trailing close behind. Quickly making her way around and deliberately letting Suk Min hit her.

"That's one little man," she yelled dodging a balloon G aimed at her.
Running pass the bucket of water balloons she quickly grabbed two and ran towards, Yong Min and Gi Hye. She aimed for Yong Min and nailed him right in the back. She didn't have to hit Gi Hye, she just broke the balloon over the little girl's head.

She had forgotten, she was also a target. She was bombarded with balloons hitting her back.
She didn't bother turning around and quickly ran before she was hit with more.

"That's two for me," Yong Min yelled, a hit of male pride in his voice.

"Da du," Siwon yelled, Nita could hear the excitement in his voice, "Two, Nita, two," he yelled. Nita risked a glance behind her and couldn't help smiling. He was jumping up, fist pumping the air. He looked cute, celebrating his mild victory.

Not paying attention to where she was going, she ran into G. Popping the two balloons she had and the three G was holding on to. Tumbling onto the grass, she was now completely soaked.

"Game Over, kids," yelled Gi Hye's appa, "we are out of balloons."

Picking herself off the ground, she looked at G, "how did you manage to carry three at the same time," she asked, trying to figure how he managed to run with those.

"I wasn't being chased, I was the one doing the chasing," he looked at her quizzically, "shouldn't you be worried about the tally of balloons," he asked.

It took Nita a minute to figure out what he was saying. Then it dawned on her, why he'd said that. She had been distracted by how he had been carrying three, that she didn't remember she practically ran into the three. Bringing his tally to three. She glared at Yong Min, she was going to kill the kid.

"Come on, we'll slice up the watermelon, and you kids can start drying off," Gi Hye's appa announced as he set up a table to start chopping the watermelon.

As she made her way to the table, Siwon divested himself of his shirt and started ringing out he water from it. Nita tripped over her own two feet. He really shouldn't do that in front of her. She couldn't help appreciate what a fine piece of specimen the man was. Working out definitely had its benefits, her attention was diverted when, Min Na came running to Siwon. He didn't think anything about it, dropping his shirt and opening his arms to catch her. Nita couldn't help thinking, how wonderful he was with the kids. Even with the one's that pretended not to like him. He looked dashing playing with the kids, of course the fact that he was shirtless only improved the image. But she knew he would make a wonderful father one day.

"You don't want any," Yong Min asked, kissing her cheek.

"Huh? I'm sorry, what?" She asked, getting off her train of thought.

"Here," Yong Min handed her a piece on watermelon.

She took it and bit into in it. It was sweet and refreshing, it had been a while since she'd enjoyed a day like this. Her eyes went to the table where, Gi Hye was occupying G's attention, while Suk Min was trying to have a conversation with G. All three of them were enjoying a slice of watermelon each. G was teasing Gi Hye, who was blushing and giggling, while Suk Min was jumping up and down on the table, finally attracting G's attention. G set his slice of watermelon on the table and guided Suk Min to the ground, squatting as he placed Gi Hye's feet on the grass. Both children had bright smiles on their faces, while G was talking to them. G's gaze came to her and he winked at her, she knew she was blushing. She made her way towards the big trash can to throw away the rind of her watermelon slice. She decided this was a good place to wring out her shirt. She was glad she opted for a sports bra and casual clothes. She took off her shirt, back to the others.

Suddenly Yong Min runs by her, taking her top with him. That little brat, couldn't behave!! Without thinking she ran after him. Just as quickly as she ran after him, her arm was grasped, making her come to a stop. She was twirled around, an arm snaking around her exposed waist and she was pulled against hard muscle, while Siwon crushed his lips to hers. She was taken aback, it took a moment to figure out what was going on. Siwon was kissing her. Her heart was beating a million miles per second. Her thoughts completely leaving her, she reacted instinctively. Wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him back. His grip tightened around her waist with a sense of desperateness, as if he couldn't get her close enough.
A clearing of a throat immediately broke the intense moment. They broke the kiss, trying to catch their breath with some sophistication, but failing miserably. She knew she was a bright red and a quick glance at Siwon showed he was in the same predicament. Looking at Siwon she was hit with a realization.

She liked him! Everything she had been trying to explain logically was a reason to deny what she was feeling. She was attracted to him. She immediately took a step back, taking a deep breath to help calm herself.

"That leaves one more left for Siwon Hyung now," Suk Min announced excitedly, "GD Hyung still has his three," he added.

"I think it's time to get cleaned up, now," Nita said, trying not to show how unnerved she was,
"staying in those wet clothes might give all of you a cold, come on, let's go inside now." Glaring at Yong Min, she said, "and you, give me back my top," she made her way to him and snatched her top out of his hands and pulling it back on.

The cold top felt wonderful against her hot skin. Needless to say Siwon could instantly bring her body to combustion.

"Are you mad," Yong Min asked.

"Not as much as I am at myself," Nita answered, it was the truth, she knew she was attracted to G, but to find out she liked Siwon too. It was Aidan and Nate all over again, but they were brothers. These two weren't. Nita knew she couldn't and shouldn't read into these situations. She just needed to take this debt of kisses with a grain of salt. She didn't have to make things complicated. They weren't into her. She just had to act like she wasn't into them, that was all she had to do. Easy as cake. Right?
