Danger

Worries of the first degree

"Hye Su!"
A pillow was flung from across the room and hit my forehead with a thump as my face flung back onto the bed on which it had just risen from, "Daaaad! Act your age, not your IQ!" I joked with a smile as my father's silhouette disappeared down the hallway, "Hurry and get ready, it's your first day at your new school, and don't forget what you learned." He called from the kitchen as he began making our regular morning meal.
I sighed, having completely forgotten about my sudden transfer and what happened yesterday, flashes of the crime scene scattering across my mind, "Yea, yea I got it." I quickly closed my bedroom and pulled my hair up into a messy ponytail, "Remember Hye Su, it's just a mission." I examined myself in the mirror and frowned before grabbing a pair of heavily framed glasses and tossed on the school uniform, my fingers twitching as I looked into my closet to find my shrine of makeup which, because of my mission, I couldn't use today. I grabbed a pair of shoes and blew a kiss to my abandoned makeup box before closing the door and examining myself in the large mirror that strung across one side of my closet.
Having found that I had achieved my goal as far as my appearance for the day, I grabbed my bag and made my way into the hall where I sat across from my father and watched him effortlessly cook, the delicious smell drifting to my nostrils. No matter how many times I smelled or ate my fathers amazing cooking, it never ceased to amaze me, "When are you going to learn how to cook, squirt?" He joked, noticing me almost drooling over the food, "When you get a real job."
I joked, the air in the room a lot lighter than it had been last night. "I have a real job!" He threw back with a grin, "Sending your only daughter on life threatening government missions is not a job." I snuck a piece of toast that had been cooling on the plate next to him and quickly took a bite before he could retreat it. He laughed, "The government thinks it is."
I rolled my eyes, my smile continuing to illuminate my face. 'he seems happy at least' I thought to myself as he continued cooking, a wide grin also spread across his face.
I pulled out my phone just as he was placing the meals on plates and my face lit up, "Crap, look at the time. I have to go!" I said, quickly grabbing my bag kissed my dad on the cheek before shoveling the food into my mouth and retreating out the door.
Once out my shoulders fell against the nearest wall as I sunk to the floor, I was used to acting strong in difficult situations around my dad and I was used to his sudden change in demeanor as soon as we were alone but today the flashes of blood and my uncle's body strewn across his once bright office made it hard to keep up the smile. I shook the visions away and instead used my down set mood to make it easy to avoid others and focus solely on catching the bastard that murdered my uncle.
