My older sister grabs my headphones from my head and listens to the Korean rock music that I’d been blasting. “Ugh, this shit again. What do you like so much about it?” I grab the headphones back. “I don’t like it, it just plays randomly and it just happens to pick the K-rock songs. Got it?” She scoffs and leaves my apartment. She’d only come over to see me because mom wouldn't give her money until she came to see if I was fine. Apparently I was non-social. Getting up from the couch, I skip the song and start cleaning up the mess that was the coffee table covered in garbage. Cleaning it off, the doorbell rings and I bet it’s my sister again. Opening the door, I face someone who is definitely not my sister. Slamming the door shut, I lean against it, not wanting to talk to whoever he was. “Uh, excuse me. I just came to ask where this address was. I asked the landlord and he seemed to be lost in his own world, but he told me to come ask you.” What the hell. A piece of paper slides underneath my door and I pick it up, reading the address. “Give me a minute.” Grabbing a piece of paper, I quickly draw a map and the route he could take before sliding it back under the door. “Uh, thanks.” He says before his steps recede down the hallway. I finish cleaning the coffee table before my phone rings. Answering it, “Hello?” “If you want to be able to stay in your house without me dragging you out, come to the cafe at the intersection. I have something to tell you but I’m not telling you over the phone.” Mom’s voice snaps before hanging up. Sighing, I change and grab my wallet, phone and keys, knowing she’s probably going to keep me out for most of the day. This was a way of therapy for me that she thought would work, bringing me out to spend time with people. Tying my shoes, I slam the door behind me before going out front of the apartment building and unlocking my bike. Biking to the cafe, I lock my bike up and go in, ordering my usual whenever I had to meet mom here, a fruit tart and fresh squeezed lemonade. Going up to the rooftop garden where the tables were, I sit down next to the railing and start eating my food. As I’m finishing my tart, mom calls and demands that I come down to the first floor of the cafe. Sighing, I throw away my garbage and go downstairs to where mom is waiting for her coffee. As soon as her coffee is set down, she drags me out of the cafe and into a karaoke bar. “Sorry, sorry, but my friends want their kids to hang out without going through too much trouble, so please just hang with them and I’ll leave you alone for two weeks.” She leaves and I stare around the large room. Pulling out my phone, I call my childhood friend, Min Ae. “Min-ah! My mom’s forcing me to sit in a karaoke bar by myself for a while, so what songs did we sings last time that sounded okay?” She lists off a bunch of songs that I write down before hanging up.

Lee Seungi
Slamming the door to dad’s car, I stalk towards the karaoke bar. I didn't even want to be here, but he’d made me come or else he’d put a lock on my bike. Yanking open the door, I walk down the hall, past waiters and am about to open the door to the karaoke room that dad had specified when I hear the intro of the song that I’d released a couple years ago. Suddenly a angelic voice starts singing and I couldn't move. The voice was entrancing. “Seungi-ah, why’re you just standing there?” I turn to find Daehyun standing behind me. I’m about to answer when the volume in the room is turned up and instead of a angelic and sweet voice, this song had a daredevil, powerhouse singing it. “deullini jigeum naega haneun yaegi,” The girl sings and Daehyun points at the door. “I know this song! This’s my cousin’s song! She sings this all the time!” So dad had called a couple girls to sing with us? Pulling open the door, my eyes sweep the room and land on a lone girl standing in the middle of the room. I cover Daehyun’s mouth as she punches in another song. Someone taps my shoulder and I jump, looking over my shoulder at Leo. He looks at me in confusion, because he barely talks unless he sings. Covering his mouth, I point at the girl that had just leaned back on a table. “eojjeol su eobseoseo beoryeosseo, modeun gamjeongul jiwosseo. neol aesseo jiul su eobseoseo, nae mami ansseureowoseo.” She sings with the angelic voice and Leo is about to walk forward but Daehyun helps me hold him back. She starts rapping and this time Leo has to cover my mouth. “naruel nochigi sirheo, naruel deo mangchigi sirheo. kkeutnado kkeutnaji annneun gieoge, igil jasini nan eobseo.” She then powerhouses the chorus and Leo nearly chokes on my hand. So it wasn’t two girls, but the one girl that can sound like two, interesting. “Yeoboseyo?” Daehyun asks and she looks over at us before quickly setting down the mic. “I’m just here because of my mom, don’t mind me.” She sits down at the end of the large couch that surrounds the table and pulls out her phone. Ah, I guess dad didn’t know she was anti-social. “Are you guys going to go in?” I hear Kris ask from behind us and we’re shoved forward. “Do they have my new song on here yet?” He walks over to the table and flips through the book of songs. “Aish, it’s not in here. You should sing your new song, Leo. At least until the others come.” Leo nods and I realize that he can’t really sing anything other than his actual part in the song. “How about we all sing the parts that we can? I think Leo can only sing his chorus part. Uh,” I turn to the girl and she looks up with eyes that told me she usually didn’t hang out with people. “Oh, I’m Haru.” She quickly says. “Haru, please sing with us.”
