Broken Hearts and Crystal Tears
Heart Broken
~Summer’s POV~
I went to fetch some water for Minnie. I got a little lost, and it took me about 30 minutes before I finally returned to Minnie’s room.
I stepped in the room, but there was already someone there buy her bed, a guy. The guy put a bouquet of irises by her bed. Then he bent over and...kissed her on the lips! My eyes widened in shock. The guy raised his head, and I immediately saw who it was. His tan skin, dark brown eyes and messy hair was unmistakable.
Tears stung my eyes, and I didn’t bother wiping my eyes. I ran, my vision blurred. I ran through the hospital all the way to my car. I was out of breath, trying to gasp for air as I cried. I stumbled into my car, and drove blindly. I drove to the mall. In the parking lot, I was driving too quickly and didn’t look where I was going. My car crashed into a handicapped sign, but I didn’t care. I was too hurt.
My car was very damaged, and had to get towed, but I didn’t care. I ran out of tears and went to the 24 hour Bubble Tea store, one of the only stores I was familiar with.
I stepped into the shop and ordered 1 taro bubble tea. I sat by myself, head down, drinking so fast that my mind was completely separated from the world around me.
My phone rang, but I ignored it. My special ringtone for Kai’s number rang out. *So baby don’t cry, tonight eodumi geochigo namyeon, baby don’t cry, tonight eobseotdeon iri doel geoya*
Kai’s voice floated out from my pocket. “Summer? Are you ok? We’ve been searching for you everywhere. Please respond if you get this.”
A tear made its way down my cheek. He will never be mine.
A big clunk shook me from my thoughts. I slowly looked up, and directed my eyes at the person’s hands. He breathed heavily from running.
“Summer, what were you thinking? All of us have been worried to death. It’s already 4 am and none of us have slept. Don’t ever do that again.”
It was too much. I burst into tears again and blubbered out words. “Kai-” I sniffed loudly. “Minnie-” I shook my head. What was I doing? Stop Summer, I told myself. Crying won’t help.
Thankfully, he understood me. Sehun pulled me into a hug and I wept into his shoulder.
“It’s ok Summer. Shh~ It’s ok. Don’t cry, I’m here for you. Just tell me what’s the problem.”
I shook my head. No matter how sad I was, I didn’t want to take advantage of him liking me. I thought he would ditch me right there, as I wouldn’t tell him anything and just kept crying.
But instead, he stroked my head softly and spoke in a soft voice.
“Do you want me to drive you home? I saw that your car wasn’t out there.”
I shook my head again. I didn’t want the other SUGAR and Exo members to see me in this state.
“Ok, then where do you want me to take you?”
“Just stay right here, please.” My voiced cracked, and I burrowed my head into his shoulder again. “Thank you Sehun oppa.”
“But please just tell me the story, Summer. I promise I won’t judge.”
I nodded my head and sniffed. I stood up straighter, and saw my reflection in a mirror from the barber shop next door. My eyes were red and puffy, and my hair made me look like a monster. One of my shoes were untied, and my makeup was smeared everywhere.
Sehun started talking first. “I’ve been wanting to tell you something, but I felt like it’s been too short since we’ve first met.”
I closed my eyes, waiting for his words to strike me.
~Sehun’s POV~
Summer closed her eyes. Is that a good thing?
My arms are still wrapped around her waist. My hands are starting to sweat. I swallowed, wanting to tell her while I still could.
“Summer-” She looked up. “Yes?” She asked. I bit my lip to stop myself from shaking. “I-I really l-like you, Su-Summer.”
Her face darkened. My heartbeat quickened, and I worried that I said something wrong. She looked at me straight in the eye.
“I already know.” She whispered so softly that I almost didn’t hear her. “Y-you did?” I took my hands from around her waist. “I’m sorry, Summer. I-if you don’t l-like me, it’s ok.”
I suddenly felt her arms wrap around me. “Sehun oppa, I should be the one who is sorry. You did all this for me, and what did I do for you? I stood here crying my heart out and soaking your shirt.”
She laughed weakly. I smiled, even though I was hurt. “Please don’t be mad at me, Sehun. I will always love you like a brother, but you may not be the right person.”
~Summer’s POV~
Sehun was so nice to me. How could I do this to him? I could already see his heart shatter, as mine did just an hour ago.
I sighed. He asked, “What is it Summer?” I looked at him. “Nothing. But I should tell you something.”
It would break his heart even further. I really didn’t want to see him suffer, but the truth would have to spill one time or another.
“K-Kai-- Well, I like Kai.” I put my hands over my face, wanting to disappear forever and ever. I felt Sehun tense up in front of me. “Ok Summer...but why were you so sad? And why are you telling me this?”
His voice sounded angry, and I regretted doing this to him, pushing him through so much pain.
“Before I came here, I went to the hospital to tell Mi- to check on Minnie. I went to get her some water, but I got lost, so I came back after 30 minutes. When I opened the door, I saw someone by her bed. I thought it was just a SUGAR or Exo member checking on Minnie, but it was Kai. As I watched in horror, Kai kissed Minnie on the lips. I would much rather die than see that again. And before you sat down, my phone rang. Kai left a message saying that everyone was really worried, and he wanted me to call back as soon as I could.” My voice cracked. “But what do I do now, knowing that Kai likes Minnie while I like Kai?”
I started crying again, for the third time that day. Sehun didn’t say anything, he just held me as I cried.
I pushed him away after a minute. “Sehun, you shouldn’t be doing this for me. I’ve been so mean to you.”
Sehun smiled, and said, “No Summer, I care about you. Even if you hate me one day, I will still protect you. Love has it’s advantages and disadvantages. I will never leave you, but I will always be heartbroken.”
My brain shattered at what he just said. Sehun was more broken than me. Why was I so selfish? I bit my lip. “Thank you Sehun oppa.”
Sehun was about to reply, when a voice was heard outside. “WAE!! WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING IN THERE?” Sehun blushed a deep red and turned around.
Kai’s voice rang out. “We have been so worried Summer! Where have you been?”
I looked down, not daring to speak.
“Leave her alone. You’ve hurt her enough.” Sehun glared at Kai.
Kai, taken aback, stared at us confusedly.
“Let’s go,” Sehun whispered. He wrapped one arm around me protectively then led me to his car. Thankfully, there were no fans outside.
Kai’s car was right behind Sehun’s. I could see Kai confused in the mirror, and all I wanted to do was to kiss him. But I would never be his.
