Broken Hearts and Crystal Tears

~The next day, Summer’s POV~

Waking up tired from the restless sleep, I stumbled out of bed, determined to take action today. I came out of my dorms and entered a hallway with many doors.

I went from practice room to practice room, trying to find someone. Finally I found the person I was looking for. He was singing alone with his pure voice, hitting all the high notes.

I snuck up behind him and tapped his soldier.

“Yah! You scared me!” he yelled.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Sure,” he replied.

“Uh...do you know someone named Han Chan Gi?”

His face darkened. “Yes. She was my girlfriend in high school. We broke up two years ago, but I don’t even remember the reason. All I remember was she was just pure evil.”

“Oh, okay.”

“Why are you asking me?”

“Nothing. I just heard about her from a friend, and she said that Han Chan Gi knows you.”

“BAEKHYUN-AH! I’M GONNA KILL YOU!” Chanyeol came running in, D.O. chasing behind him. D.O. had turned into Satansoo mode. “Help!!! It wasn’t me that poured hot sauce in your cake!! It was Baekhyun!!”

I laughed at their foolishness. These boys may be in their 20’s, but they acted like 5 year olds.

Baekhyun stood up, about to make a run for it, but D.O. caught him and started doing his famous choke hold.

“AAAAH!” Baekhyun groped at D.O.’s arm. “Mianhae! Channie get him off!!” his voice came out raspy.

Chanyeol laughed. “Ok, fine. C’mon D.O., let’s go get food.”

D.O. rolled his eyes. “Fine, coming.”

Baekhyun sighed with relief. “Yah, your hold is strong.”

D.O. smiled sweetly. “You want to come with us?”

Baekhyun shook his head. “Nah, I’m practicing.”

The moment the two filed out the door, I bombed Baekhyun with questions again.

“Do you still talk to her? What did she do that was so evil? Why did you date her? Did she always act like this?”

“No, when we broke up I was slightly relieved. She always slapped me and even slapped other girls. She also threatened them and gossiped. She tried being cool, and tried to laugh at all the things that the pretty and nice popular girls said. The day we broke up, I swear I had a bruise on my cheek for a month. She’s acted like that ever since I met her. And we were, what--five or six years old? When we were little, she didn’t want to play soccer because she didn’t want to get her new black shoes dirty. Honestly, it was our parents who wanted us to date. But I couldn’t stand it. Her parents were the CEO of some company, and our families were friends.”

“Wow, she must have been really horrible.” No wonder Minnie hated her.

“She was,” he stated as a matter of fact. “No one liked her. But she didn’t realize it until your friend, Minnie, pointed it out.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Oh...was there anyone that created tension between you and Chan Gi?”

He shrugged. “Not that I know of.”

I plowed on. “Two years ago? Do you know anything that...happened?”

He shrugged again. “No...wait.”

His face turned pale. “Her…?”

I gulped and nodded. “Yes...that night. Do you remember who she was? Or were you too drunk?”

He shook his head slowly. “No...I don’t really remember her. I drank several glasses of wine.”

I swallowed. “Uh...ok. Thanks. Loved your singing by the way!”

He smiled at me. “No problem. Thanks!” But the crease in his forehead signified he was still wary of something.

I quickly said something. “A-and I just wanted to know. Don’t worry.”

He nodded, looking less worried.

I quickly got back to my dorm, lying on my bed and thinking of what was to happen.

A knock came out my door.

“Come in.”

Minnie came in, her eyes red and puffy.

“Minnie, are you okay? Were you crying?”

“No, I just didn’t sleep very well.”

I could tell she was lying.

“Ok, well feel better.” I smiled at her.

She barely returned one back, and went to eat breakfast. It was already 11 am, she never got up this late. Wow, she must be really depressed.

~Minnie’s POV~

I ate breakfast, alone and somberly. Then my phone buzzed. I lazily picked it up. There was a text from an unknown number.

So your friend visited me yesterday. She tried threatening me. Did you know you can go to jail for that? But don’t worry, I’m not like how I was in high school anymore. I won’t tell anyone, I was just fooling around. Good luck, you’ll need it.

I furrowed my brow.

Wait.

Had Summer told?

I boiled in anger. I told her not to tell! I shouldn’t have trusted her. I got up angrily, slamming the chair.

“SUMMER!!!” I yelled.

“WHAT?” She replied back.

“Come here.”

I could hear her footsteps trudge down the stairs.

“What is it?”

“Could you please explain this?” I showed her the text message. “Obviously this is from Han Chan Gi. And the only person I told is you!”

“Yes, I did talk to her. But I did it because I didn’t want her to tell anyone. And it worked.”

“It’s not only about talking to her. It’s also about breaking your promise to not talk to her! I trusted you and specifically told you to not talk to her. But you still did.”

“I thought it over, and finally thought that it would be best to talk to her about it, even if it meant breaking the promise. It was for your own good, you don’t know what Chan Gi would have done with the information!”

“I guess so, and thanks. But next time, tell me before. I hope Chan Gi really meant it when she said she was just fooling around.”

“Well, I scared the heck out of her, so I don’t think she’ll do anything.”

There was an awkward silence.

“Well, tomorrow your teaser will be released. Hopefully you’ll have better luck than me.”

“Thanks, but we can only hope. Luckily the other members won’t get as much hate because they weren’t spotted with Exo. Minnie, do you think that we could have destroyed our group’s reputation?”

“No, we’ll show them our talents. And hopefully they’ll overlook our personal relationships. They can’t stay angry forever.”

“Whatever happens, we’re in this together.”

~2 am~

I had just finished some intense dancing and was sitting down, panting.

“You’re still awake?”

I looked up to see Kai, and he handed me a bottle of water. I took it and he sat next to me. “Are you okay?”

I stared at him, about to say, “Do you think I could be okay?”, but I thought that would be a little cruel, especially since Kai was in this too. Instead, I replied, “That would depend on how you look at it.”

“Meaning?”

“I’m alive. But with recent events, I’m not really mentally okay.”

“Don’t let the public get to you. I love you, and they won’t break us apart. Even if our managers want us to separate, I’ll object. True Exo-L won’t be angry by us dating, and they’ll accept it eventually.”

A silence followed, and we were both immersed in our thoughts.

“Have you ever tried ballroom dancing?”

I looked at him to see if he was joking, but his face was completely serious. “No…The closest thing I’ve done to ballroom dancing is ballet when I was 4.”

“It’s never too late to learn,” he said while smirking. Ugh. His smirk.

“There’s also things that should never be learned.”

“Please?” He started doing aegyo. I tried looking away. His aegyo was so irresistible.

“Fine. But how would YOU know how to ballroom dance?”

“I learned when doing ballet.”

Kai showed me the basics, then showed me a dance step. I tried imitating him, but ended up failing on the timing. He laughed, then said, “Let’s try something easier.”

He put one hand on my waist, and I put one hand on his shoulder. We held each other’s other hand. “Remember, 1, 2, 3. Big, little, little.”

Our steps created a rhythm. 1, 2, 3. 1, 2, 3. I could feel him looking at my face the whole time, and a little embarrassed, I kept my head down. I felt a little more comfortable doing the basic steps, so I tried doing a turn. In the middle of the turn, I realized that I forgot to tell Kai. Nevertheless, he caught me in his arms.

I looked at his eyes and he gave me a peck on the lips before throwing me up in the air. I gave a small shriek, before landing in his arms once again. He then stepped back and gave a deep bow, and in return I curtsied.

“God, it’s late. I should go to sleep now,” I said.

“Good night.”

I kissed him one last time, enjoying the moment.

We parted ways and I fell asleep as soon as I entered my dorms and my head hit the pillow.
