Broken Hearts and Crystal Tears

Kai, however, didn’t seem to notice that Sehun and Summer were in the same restaurant as them. They sat down across from each other, and looked through the menu. Minnie ordered a simple dolsot bibimbap and Kai ordered tong dak because of his love of chicken.

The two ate, an awkward silence at first.

Kai ate his food, thinking of ways to bring up conversation.

Minnie stole several glances at Sehun and Summer. They were enjoying themselves, laughing and talking. She then looked back at Kai.

“So...how did you become a trainee for SM Entertainment?” asked Kai. He mentally slapped himself. What kind of question was that? He sounded like some kind of nosy interviewer.

Minnie smiled, amused that Kai was trying to make conversation. “I was street casted, but it was mainly because of my dancing.”

Kai murmured under his breath. “Of course you were street casted, you’re so beautiful.”

Minnie cocked her head. “What did you say?”

Kai looked up. “Me? Oh, uh, nothing. I was just saying that-” he awkwardly found something to gesture at, and pointed to the picture on the wall. “Oh yah, I was saying that the picture was so beautiful.”

Minnie smirked, not buying his story. “Mhm.”

Kai blushed. “Sorry...for liking you while you liked someone else and...” He covered his eyes with his hands. Ugh, why did he make everything so awkward.

Minnie laughed and peeled Kai’s hands from his face.

“Aww...it’s ok, Kai oppa,” she teased. Kai blushed and looked up again. Minnie laughed again. “I should be the one saying sorry...for making you hurt.”

Kai smiled. “It’s ok. Let’s just enjoy this as a ‘date’.” He gently put his hand on Minnie’s hand.

Minnie flinched, but then relaxed, holding Kai’s hand softly.

A gasp from the table beside Minnie and Kai’s table was a telltale story that Summer saw her best friend and crush beside her.

Minnie glanced at Sehun from the corner of her eye, and saw that he put his hand on Summer’s too.

Minnie said to Kai quietly, “Hey look ‘boyfriend,’ your BFF is right beside us.”

Kai gently looked to the right, and his eyes widened.

“Uh, hey Sehun...”

Sehun smiled. “Hey hyung, I heard they opened a new ice cream store next door, want to go check it out?”

Kai looked at Minnie questionably.

Minnie thought for a moment, then answered, “How about we go to the bubble tea store?” She knew that bubble tea was Sehun’s weakness, and Sehun’s eyes immediately widened like a little child’s eyes.


“Yes please! Summer come on!”

Summer grumbled slightly to Minnie. “Your supposed to be on a date with Kai, not Sehun.”

Sehun turned around. “What did you say?”

Summer smiled. “Nothing, come on, we should go. It’s getting late.”

Sehun grinned, oblivious of anything. “Ok! But bubble tea first.”

Kai laughed. “Definitely.”

~30 minutes later~
They all finished dinner, and went to Sehun’s favorite bubble tea store. Summer remembered what happened last time she was there, and she smiled at Sehun’s excitement.

Sehun ordered his favorite chocolate bubble tea, Minnie ordered strawberry, Summer ordered coffee bubble tea, and Kai ordered vanilla. To make it so that people knew they were on a date, Summer and Sehun sat at a table while Kai and Minnie sat at another.

Minnie wanted to try Summer’s bubble tea, so she stole it when Summer wasn’t looking. Minnie watched in amusement, but Summer didn’t even know that Minnie stole her bubble tea.

Summer leaned in to drink what she thought was her own bubble tea when her nose collided with someone else’s.

“Wae!” Sehun shouted. “I know you’re eager to kiss me, but my bubble tea!”

Summer blushed, then laughed. “Haha, I’m sorry Sehunnie. But where’s my bubble tea?”

Minnie giggled, and handed over Summer’s bubble tea.

Sehun saw what was happening, and quickly held out his bubble tea to Summer. “Nevermind, you can have a sip!”

Summer laughed, and daintily sipped a tiny bit of Sehun’s bubble tea. Minnie and Kai got up to go to the restrooms, leaving Summer and Sehun alone.

As Summer drank her bubble tea in a comfortable silence with Sehun, she turned her head slightly to look at the photos on the wall. As she did, she suddenly felt something soft against her cheek. Sehun looked at her awkwardly, and his hand brushed her cheek again. Summer leaned in slowly, and Sehun pressed his mouth to her’s.

Summer quickly pulled back, shaking her head. “No, Sehun, not here.”

Sehun looked a little disappointed. Summer bit her lip, as Kai and Minnie came back from the bathrooms.

Minnie sat next to Summer. “What are you two lovebirds up to?”

Sehun looked away and blushed. “Nothing.”

Summer looked behind Minnie, at Kai. Sehun followed her gaze, and turned red, angry. He got up suddenly, and looked at all three of them. “Come on, let’s go.” He took Summer’s hand, and walked her out to his car. Summer relaxed a bit, and decided to be nicer to Sehun. She squeezed his hand, and got into the passenger seat.

Minnie watched from Kai’s car with Kai driving, and looked to her left, not wanting to see Summer and Sehun happy together anymore.

Kai sensed her uneasiness, and asked, “What’s the problem Minnie?”

Minnie tensed. “U-uh, nothing. I’m fine.”

Kai didn’t buy it. “I know it’s about Sehun.”

Minnie sighed. “It’s just that- I’ll never get a chance with him.”

Kai slowed his car down, and parked at a nearby store. He put his hand on Minnie’s, and looked at her straight in the eye. “I don’t care that we were set up on this date, but today was one of the happiest days of my life. But always remember, even if you don’t have Sehun, you’ll always have me.”

Minnie smiled, glad that someone cared. “You’re right. Thank you Kai.”

Kai pulled the car back onto drive, and drove back to the SM building with Minnie in silence.

~10 pm; Minnie’s POV~
Kai opened the door for me, and although I insisted that he didn’t have to, he walked me to the SUGAR dorms. I was about to open the door, when I turned around to say goodbye. Instead of seeing Kai standing in his suit, all I saw was a closeup of his face. I closed my eyes, waiting for me to bang my head into something.

My lips brushed his lips softly, and my eyes suddenly flew open. I immediately stepped back, leaving Kai awkwardly standing there.

“Uh...it’s getting late and tomorrow I have an early schedule,” he said, his hand reaching to the back of his neck.

“See you tomorrow,” I said before stepping in my dorm. I quickly closed the door and sat down against it. My hand flew to my lips. I touched where we accidentally kissed.

His lips are full and soft. I mentally slapped myself. Stop thinking like that! You don’t like Kai!

Or do you… I soon fell asleep, leaning against the doorway.
