I'll be your light

Melinda didn’t expect it to be this hard. She knows she is avoiding him, but she doesn’t know why. It’s been a week since the incident and she still hasn’t spoken to him. Every time she saw him in the hallway of their apartment building, she would keep her eyes on the floor and quickly walk right past him. She’s forgotten how much she disliked them. Does she still think of them badly after they saved her from paedophilic maniacs? She knows she can’t avoid him forever.

She comes back to her apartment after a long day at uni and work. She finds black box at her doorstep. The hairs at the back of her neck rise. She knows who it is from. She takes the box and quickly steps inside her apartment. She sits on her bed and unwraps the black bow tied on the box. She carefully holds up the dress and cringes.



‘What does he want me to do with this?’ she silently questions herself. There is a note at the bottom of the box, she opens it and reads it out loud. “Leave tomorrow night free for me. I want to take you somewhere. Be ready at 7:00 –Yukwon.”
She feels her muscles tighten. “I’m trying to avoid him yet he’s asking to take me somewhere?” she asks the silence. She sighs in frustration, but then smiles. “There’s no putting this to waste, I guess I can wear it for him.”

She tried her best to avoid him until the afternoon came. She feels uneasy knowing that she’ll see him, but she doesn’t know why. By 7:00pm, she is dressed in the dress he gave her and is sitting on the couch waiting for him. She nervously fiddles with the end of the dress. Yukwon knocks on her door and Melinda practically jumps off the couch to open the door. He isn’t wearing what she was expecting him to wear; semi formal. Instead he is wearing a white t-shirt, a navy blue jacket and black shorts. He screws his face when he sees her. “Why are you wearing that?” he asks her. Her mouth drops open and she almost slams the door in his face. “Um, I’m wearing what you gave me.” She says with a tinge of anger in her voice. Yukwon laughs. “That was just a present. Today I’m taking you somewhere fun.” “You should have told me.” Melinda says while pouting. “You should change.” He smiles. She nods and lets him inside her apartment. “You look beautiful in that dress by the way.” He says to her as she walks off. Luckily her face is turned away from him, otherwise he would see her blush.

She leaves the apartment building wearing more comfortable clothes. Track pants and a t-shirt. “So where are we going?” Melinda asks Yukwon as they walk down the street. “We’re participating in a 1K tandem bike race.” He smiles excitedly. “Winners get a day trip to a massage place and spa!” he laughs. Melinda smiles at him. “A trip to a massage and spa? That sounds so expensive! Don’t we need to pay to enter the competition?” She asks. He takes out two small tickets out from his short’s pocket. “I already got them.” Melinda ties her hair up into a messy bun. “Let’s win that trip!”
