Chapter 26: Christmas Day

Baekhyun starts the game and he looks at his gift while describing the person he got, “Well, this one is really cute like me…” and he hears everyone’s groans and laughs with his full of feels face. “He is adorable and sweet in silent way.” He smiles as he scans the surroundings to look for him and there he smiles that makes that person form an O on his lips. “Baozi Xiumin!!”

Baekhyun goes to Xiumin in glee with his arms flailing to hug Xiumin; he’s so squishy. Xiumin smiles wide when he opens the gift he received from Baekhyun, “It’s a book… well, I really see you in school that you always read book whenever Lay and Kyungsoo are not yet around. And there I realized that you might be a reader? Is it fine with you?” Baekhyun explains.

And Xiumin nods, “Ne, seonsaeng nim.” And everyone laughs because Baekhyun really doesn’t want to be called seonsaeng nim because it doesn’t suit him. But Baekhyun smiles afterwards and hugs Xiumin. Xiumin goes in the middle of the crowd and looks at the thing he has on his hands, “Uhm, I really didn’t know that he is so kind at first because I barely know him. And he was a bully before---“

“Layyyy!!” Kyungsoo shouts his name and Xiumin smiles and nods. Everyone claps their hands when Lay opens his gift in front of Xiumin. Lay gives him a dimpled smile. “Capo… for your guitar. Uhm, I don’t really know the things that you like because I’ve only known you for a month so this… I just made sure that you’ll use this so it won’t be like wasted if it’ll only be just for display. So for a capo, I know you’ll use this when you play. I like how you play instruments…” and with that statement, they get everyone’s coos and giggles. They smile at each other and give a hug. “Merry Christmas.”

Lay goes in the crowd and handles his gift with care like it’ll be broken in anytime. He first gives everyone a smile and greets them, “Merry Christmas.” Before describing the person he got. He scans the surroundings to look for him and when he sees him, he looks at his gift because it resembles him, “The person I got is a child at heart but he’s so strong. He is also a Chinese like me s---“

“Luhan! Luhan!” Baekhyun suggests then Kyungsoo opposes, “No, no, no… Luhan is the opposite of what Lay described. Luhan is strong at heart but he looks like a child.” Kyungsoo sounds like he’s scolding Baekhyun, but it is just for the thing Baekhyun told him earlier. Kyungsoo is about to add another violent reaction when Baekhyun shouts again, “Then Tao! It’s Tao then, he’s the only Chinese left!” And Kyungsoo shuts his mouth up.

Lay rubs his head as he goes to Tao because he should be the one to tell that to everyone but there are Kyungsoo and Baekhyun, these guys. Lay first bows at Tao then gives him the gift. Tao opens the gift and he’s filled with smiles and giggles, “Wah! This is really cute!” he hugs the stuffed toy in his hands while Lay explains, “It’s a panda stuffed toy because you look like him. It’s cute, too. And I think you’re a child that’s why it’s a stuffed toy.”

Tao bows his head to Lay and hugs him, “I like it.” and Tao settles in the middle. He looks at everyone’s faces looking forward to who’s the person he got. Tao makes sure that he could show him his gratification for all the things he did for him, “This one I got is so kind and bitch--“

“Then that’s Kyungsoo.” Baekhyun comments only to be given a pillow hitting his face. Baekhyun glares at Kyungsoo as Kyungsoo curses him non-stop. But it is just for fun and Baekhyun can sense that Tao looks like he’s going to cry.

Tao continues, “He really has helped me a lot when I was so lost because of… Kris.” And with that, everyone knows now who the person is yet they let Tao continue, “He even took me to the Byuns to take care of me and tell everything. I am really lucky to have a friend like him because he’ll do anything to protect you. He’ll protect you in intangible ways.” And with that, Kyungsoo goes in the middle to hug Tao who is crying because of gratification.

“This is for you hyung.” Tao holds his gift to give it to Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo accepts it and opens it, revealing a book filled in with photos and captions in the café and restaurant. Kyungsoo looks at each pictures as Tao explains, “I give you that because you’re leaving, right? I captured every moment we have in our world… how you welcome everybody with you heart-shaped smile… how you slip on a cake, drink, or whatever on the floor… on how you meet and welcome Jongin… on how you meet and welcome Xiumin and Lay hyung… on how you meet and welcome Sehun… on how you punch Sehun.. everything hyung. I don’t want you to forget that.”

Kyungsoo smiles at how sweet and innocent Tao is and he gives Tao a hug and a kiss on the head. “Thank you very much Tao, I’ll treasure this. And I will never forget the things we did in our world.” Kyungsoo assures Tao.

Kyungsoo fights his urge to cry as he describes the one he picked, “I love him…” and everyone thinks it’s Jongin. “He’s always there for me even though he’s not living in this town anymore.” And everyone looks at Luhan, including Kyungsoo, “He’s my bestfriend and he always makes me smile but…” Kyungsoo walks to Luhan who is looking up at him because he’s still seated on the floor. Kyungsoo kneels to Luhan to tell him, “I’m sorry… because you always make me smile but I made you cry. And I hate myself for that.”

Kyungsoo bows his head down to Luhan but Luhan lifts his chin up and even though there’s pain left behind, he forgives the loved one. “Don’t hate yourself…” Luhan pats Kyungsoo’s back. “I’m sorry I can’t kiss the pain away.” Luhan nods and understands what Kyungsoo is trying to say. Then he tells Kyungsoo, “But you can ease and lessen the pain when you give me your gift now.”

Kyungsoo laughs at Luhan and breaks the hug. He gives Luhan the gift and before Luhan completely opens the gift, Kyungsoo explains, “It’s a jacket, because you are always there for me. Just think of me as if I am the jacket, when you feel cold or whatever, just hug that so you’d know that I’m here for you always. When you’re in pain, you can look at that jacket because I’m only there in your closet or wherever in our house. I’ll pray for your health always Luhan.” Luhan hugs and greets Kyungsoo a merry Christmas. And now, he can smile fully and he’s so happy about it. He hopes he can smile like this before he goes.

Luhan settles in his seat now when he describes the person he got, “When I first saw this person, all I see is teeth.” And with that, Kyungsoo calls Chanyeol’s name and Baekhyun gives him a glare. Luhan laughs at how his bestfriends argue with each other but will kiss and make up at the end of the day. Then he continues, “He makes my bestfriend smile and I’m happy for that. He’s so tall and I know that he can protect my bestfriend from everybody. I hope he will.”

And Luhan goes in front of Chanyeol and tells him, “I gave you caps and a bonnet.” Then Chanyeol looks at him when he sees many designs and kinds of cap in front of him. “Because uhm… I realize that you and Baekhyun always have an umbrella whenever you decide to go out on a date. So I think that umbrella is not handy because you still have to open and close it while caps somehow will lessen your efforts to open and close and whatever when you can just put this on your head and you’re done!” Chanyeol gives Luhan a hug and a merry Christmas and afterwards, gets on his seat on the floor. Chanyeol smiles as he puts a cap on Baekhyun’s head. Baekhyun pouts at what Chanyeol does but he smiles afterwards.

“The person I got is in front of me.” and with that… Chanyeol stands Baekhyun up and hugs him. “And I gave you my gift! Me!!” Chanyeol cheers happily and Baekhyun giggles as he is settled at Chanyeol’s gift to him. Everyone wants to puke at how sweet and intimate it is. And they think they have an idea what in the world will Baekhyun and Chanyeol do for the whole night. And they don’t want to imagine it.

Afterwards, silence drapes over them as they wait for Baekhyun’s gift. Baekhyun looks at the othersand curses them, “I am the first one who gave gift.” He rolls his eyes and then everyone’s eyes settle on the person after Baekhyun on the other side.

Chen rubs his head like he is embarrassed to describe the person he got, “Angel.” And with that, everyone looks at Suho. Chen goes to Suho and handles him his gift. Suho scrunches his nose at what the hell did Chen say… it’s only a word. Then Suho stands up to receive the gift and opens it. “Necklace… pendant: an angel because you are an angel. And an angel can do many things because you can do many things. And I know you know what those are. I don’t want to be cheesy.” Chen says immediately and Suho pouts at how stubborn Chen is. Well, he doesn’t expect that Chen picked him.

Chen is about to turn around when Suho holds his hand to stop him. Suho gives Chen a kiss on his lips. Well, it’s only a smack but it can still make Chen’s heart explode. Everyone coos at what Suho did. Suho then looks at the person in front of him as he describes him, “The person I got is so full of himself that I once prayed that he’ll be skinned alive.” Then he shoves the gift to Chen. Chen takes a look at it and opens it, revealing a necklace. “Necklace… pendant: g-clef. G-clef means to start the music piece. Well you start to bring music in my life. That’s all, and you know what I mean.” Suho settles at that and sits down the floor. Chen is befuddled at how short but meaningful Suho’s words are.

And when the words sink in him, he looks at Sehun who’s beside Suho and tells him to move aside. Sehun doesn’t know what Chen will do but he still moves to the side, leaving a space for a person to sit. And there he realizes that Chen is seated beside Suho right now. Suho looks at Chen, asking him why the hell he’s beside him. Chen looks at him, “There’s nothing wrong. And yes, you own this house but I know you know that I own you so there’s nothing wrong.” Chen tells stubbornly but full of emotions. Suho can’t hide his smile because it can be seen in his eyes sparkling as Chen’s words sink in him.

Chen then nudges Sehun to the side, Sehun realizes it’s his turn. Everyone goes silent when they realize what is going on. Oh shit… Sehun tells himself… it’s only him and Jongin…Kyungsoo settles in his seat because he knows what is going to happen, yet, he removes the thing that might be running in everyone’s mind as Sehun goes in the middle and describes Jongin, the person he picked, “Well… the person I picked is Jongin and no one else will be. Uhm, should I still describe him?” he looks at everyone and everyone nods silently, “He’s dark.” He fights his urge to laugh at what he says but he laughs completely when Jongin snorts at him because everyone laughs.

He goes to Jongin and gives him his gift. “I gave you that because whenever you’re here in Suho’s house, you’re the only one who’s not wearing socks. I thought you don’t have one.” Jongin glares at him more as he opens the gift, “Pairssss of socks.” Sehun says and Kyungsoo smiles as he looks at Jongin’s reaction. At least, Jongin is being true to everyone, even with Sehun right now.

Jongin doesn’t get up since Sehun is sitting in front of him now… and everyone knows that they got each other. He describes, “He doesn’t smile like that and that is the first time I see him like that… uhm… what should I… here…” Jongin then gives the gift to Sehun harshly but gently, and again, no one knows how Jongin does it. Sehun opens the gift and his eyes are dull. “Bubble tea.” And everyone laughs because no one has ever given someone food as a gift. “And a necklace… nothing, I just saw it and it resembles you in some way. It is a plain necklace. It doesn’t have any pendant, therefore, it is you. You’re plain but I know you are something. I just don’t know it but you will know it when you find someone.” Jongin sounds like he’s giving Sehun an advice. Kyungsoo looks at Jongin and he knows that Jongin wants to tell Sehun to move on. Sehun smiles at how simple but meaningful Jongin’s gift is. Well, bubble tea. Sehun gives Jongin a hug.

But Sehun doesn’t move in his place that everyone pouts at what Sehun will do. Sehun finds his courage and sighs heavily. He turns to Kyungsoo and bows at him, he hands Kyungsoo a simple gift and tells, “I’m sorry for the things I told you. And protect Jongin just like how you protect him. Please accept this.” Sehun says frantically, shyness eating him up.

Kyungsoo blinks at what Sehun is doing but he feels his heart light, he opens the gift and sees a necklace with a smile and microphone on it. “Microphone and smile because you can make everyone smile with your smile and voice. Don’t lose those.” Kyungsoo smiles at what Sehun says then he ruffles Sehun’s hair just like what he did days ago.

Sehun looks at Kyungsoo who is fumbling in his bag and then Kyungsoo reveals his heart-shaped smile and a gift and he hands it to Sehun, “You’re wonderful Sehun I know it. That’s why I gave you a pendant… pendant only because I was with Jongin when he bought that necklace for you.” then Jongin looks at Kyungsoo with wide eyes, “I know that you got Sehun… I was a little jealous that time but you hugged me. Then I think, this best suits Sehun…” Sehun looks at the thing on his hands right now. He pouts because he cannot understand what it means… Kyungsoo laughs because he knows that Sehun won’t understand it, “That is a symbol for wind. In our world, that’s how we present wind… we may not notice you all the time, but we need you right now… that’s why we always look for you… and you are always around, like a wind.” Kyungsoo smiles as he takes in Sehun’s hug and thank you to him…

Then Kyungsoo calls on Tao and looks for his gift to Tao… Tao’s eyes sparkle at what he’s seeing right now, “It’s an earring… for your ears of course. Its symbol is Time Tao… because you’re always there for us in times of danger and trouble. You found me because I was in trouble that time. Even though you don’t have a reason to help me, you still did. You still tell youself that life goes on because time passes by. That’s why you go on even though you’re hurt. That symbol is for you.” Tao, again, cries as he holds Kyungsoo close knowing that the latter will be gone next week. And he still wants to protect Kyungsoo but Kyungsoo will be safer in America.

Kyungsoo then goes to Chen to give him an earring because he notices that Chen has an earhole too. He hands Chen the earring and explains what symbol it is, “This is lightning Chen. Because you are like one, you are so strong and stubborn that will make everyone growl. And look, it has an arrow up there right? It means you’re so full of yourself…” Chen only gives Kyungsoo a glare but he knows that there is something more in it, “But Chen it also symbolizes your fucking high voice. And you are so good with it, but you’re humble with your short words that’s why you are striking to the ground. You’re humble as well as full of yourself too Chen and I don’t know how you do it.” And Chen settles in with that as he shoves an icon of Kyungsoo’s favourite band on Kyungsoo’s hand. “Accept that, it’s yours now.” And Kyungso gives him a heart-shaped smile because he understands, but it’s Chen’s. Chen has used it. But Chen is Chen and Kyungsoo understands.

Suho holds Kyungsoo’s hand and he gives Kyungsoo a t-shirt with a design of their café and restaurant, “I am a member of this world.” Kyungsoo wants to cry with that shirt because oh my god, it’s so cool. Kyungsoo smiles proudly because he really is a member of their world. Then Kyungsoo holds Suho’s hand and puts a ring on his finger. Suho smiles at how wonderful it is as Kyungsoo explains, “Water Suho hyung. You’re so outgoing and you’re so easy to ask for help. Your face your voice, it’s refreshing Suho hyung. And because you own the café and restaurant which is our world, I have my greatest gratitude to you.” Kyungsoo hugs Suho tightly as he fight the urge to cry because he’s not yet done in bidding goodbye to all of them.

Kyungsoo sighs heavily, and finds his way to Lay and Xiumin who are his bestfriends in school and true friends in life, he wipes his forehead because it’s getting harder and harder to explain, “Frost Xiumin.” Kyungsoo slides a ring on Xiumin’s finger and continues, “Frost because you’re so cool. Even with your silent attitude, you’re cool. And like what I’ve said to Suho hyung, water… you are also easy to ask for help. You’ll do anything without blabbing and blabbing about it. In that silent and fragile look of yours is a strong man… you didn’t let those bullies win. And I admire you for that. And because I know that you have our Lay.”

“And I’d like you to have this.” Xiumin then shows Kyungsoo an owl stuffed toy. Everyone laughs at how Xiumin tells everyone that Kyungsoo looks like an owl. Kyungsoo hugs the stuffed toy and of course, Xiumin too.

Kyungsoo then turns to Lay as he hands him a necklace having a symbol of a unicorn as its pendant. Lay looks at Kyungsoo and the necklace as he laughs at what he sees, “What. Kyungsoo, do I look like a unicorn?”

Kyungsoo laughs at the complain of Lay, he says, “It’s one of the reasons Lay.” And everyone laughs, including Lay. But Lay then pouts causing Kyungsoo to continue to what he’s saying. “But you’re the reason why I got rescued from the bad guy in out school. And even though you were a bully, you’ve changed for the better. You’re the reason why you changed. You’re the one who healed yourself Lay. And I’m very grateful that I am rescued by you.” Lay then hands him a recipe book which makes Kyungsoo’s eyes sparkle. Lay deserves a hug so Kyungsoo gives him. “OMO shit Lay. I love this.” “I know.” Lay breaks the hug and gives Kyungsoo’s heart-shaped smile a dimpled one.

Kyungsoo then looks at Luhan, his bestfriend, Kyungsoo holds both of Luhan’s hands and squeezes it, “I’m very lucky to have you as a bestfriend. I love you Luhan and I know you know that.” Then Kyungsoo slides the ring on Luhan’s finger as he says this, “You are so strong Luhan. You will do everything even though you’re in that condition for the ones who are important to you. And I guess that you are helping the others too. You can do everything in your way because you’re so pure and kind. I hope that you’d be able to find someone Luhan. I am a bitch so I don’t deserve you as a partner, Jongin is a bitch too so we’re very fair. But Luhan, you are an angel that everybody loves you the way you love them. You deserve to be happy so please forget about your feelings towards me. I know you’ll be perfect for him and he’ll be perfect for you, Han. Please be strong.” Kyungsoo hugs his best friend lovingly and Luhan fights his tears to flow because he shouldn’t be the one to cry first. It’s either Kyungsoo or Baekhyun. Then Luhan hugs Kyungsoo once again and hands him his gift, “This is not what you’re expecting me to give you but here… it’s a box of handkerchiefs, I don’t want to see you crying again Soo.” Kyungsoo gives Luhan a nod even though he knows that he can’t fulfill that. But Luhan settles in with that.

Kyungsoo then looks at Baekhyun and hits him on the head. Baekhyun does the same and they laugh with everyone. Kyungsoo puts the bracelet on Baekhyun’s wrist. “It’s symbol is light, Baekhyun. Because with your talkative attitude and with your voice, you can make everyone smile and feel light whenever you curse, joke, run, and with everything you do. You can make those tears and frowns to a laugh, and it will light up everyone’s faces into a smile. You’re the one who really makes us smile, hyung.”

Everything is fine for Baekhyun until he hears the last word, he scrunches his nose and curses Kyungsoo by calling him hyung… it doesn’t suit them both, just eew. But of course, Baekhyun gives Kyungsoo a hug and hits him afterwards, “Do you think that I don’t have a gift for you? Here! It’s an apron, and you know what to do in that. You’re not stupid in these things.” Kyungsoo doesn’t know if Baekhyun is complimenting him or what but he still gives Baekhyun his heart-shaped smile.

Then Kyungsoo places a bracelet around Chanyeol’s wrist, “It shapes like bird right? Because you can make everyone fly with that height of yours.” Chanyeol then gives Kyungsoo a scarf, “Take care Kyungsoo, don’t get a cold again. We don’t want you to be sick there especially we’re not by your side literally there.” Kyungsoo smiles at Chanyeol.And that makes Chanyeol smile too but after that smile, Chanyeol rubs his eyes to wipe his tears. Kyungsoo looks at Chanyeol worriedly. He rubs Chanyeol’s back and asks what is wrong.

He looks at everyone who has the same face. And it makes him sad… he knows now why… he instantly feels a lump in his throat but he smiles even though his tears are falling down now. “We will miss you Kyungsoo.” And Suho brings down the curtain revealing a banner with their message to Kyungsoo. Kyungsoo looks at the banner with wide eyes and he instantly hugs everyone.

Kyungsoo hugs everyone and cries with them. And there they eat once again for it’s Kyungsoo’s farewell party too. Jongin just smiles as he looks at the tear-strained Kyungsoo, but he knows that it’s because of joy, and he couldn’t wish for something else. He loves Kyungsoo and he wants him to be happy. Jongin flinches as he realizes that Kyungsoo is going his way with that smile on his face that Jongin loves. He doesn’t know why he feels embarrassed. Is it because Kyungsoo caught him staring at him? Yes, maybe.

Kyungsoo settles in beside his boyfriend. He stares at the conscious Jongin and chuckles when Jongin asks what the hell is his problem that he’s staring at Jongin. Kyungsoo smiles and leans on Jongin’s shoulder and Jongin looks at him as he tells, “I haven’t given you my gift Jonginnie.” And Kyungsoo searches for Jongin’s hand and when he finds it, he squeezes it and tells the other one he would never let go, Kyungsoo then hands Jongin a necklace, “I love you Jongin. And because I love you, I always think that you are teleporting from one place to another. Because all I see is you. and everytime gets in slow motion when I see you Jonginnie, that’s why everyday is a slow motion day.” Kyungsoo gives Jongin a smile and Jongin just looks at the pendant Kyungsoo gives him.

Jongin then settles his eyes on his loved one and hugs him, he doesn’t want Kyungsoo to leave, but he cannot tell it to Kyungsoo because he knows that it is for good and Kyungsoo misses his family in America. And in America, Kyungsoo is safer than here. But Jongin will protect Kyungsoo no matter what. But Jongin has to let go Kyungsoo for the mean time, he’ll still love Kyungsoo.


Hahaha, okay. How did it go? I swear, I swear Chingus, I didn’t do it on purpose, I was also surprised when Jongin picked Sehun, Sehun got Jongin… Kyungsoo got Luhan, Xiumin got Lay and when Chen and Suho picked each other. I laughed out loud when I realized what the hell I was doing that my sister cursed me for being so loud (she didn’t know what I was doing that time but she knew that it concerned EXO.)
