That evening, Seon texted Karam and JJ, asking them to come to his bedroom. They were both confused, and did not know why he wanted them. However, when he opened the door, Karam grinned. Their brother, Jonghyun, was standing next to Seon. Karam ran over and hugged him, but Jonghyun noticed that JJ had not moved. He smiled at JJ, and got a tight smile in return. “Hi, guys. I’m sorry I was gone for so long. I had some issues. I’m sorry you were worried.”
JJ nodded. “Yeah. We thought you were dead…but I’m glad you are okay.” He still seemed a little tense, but that was to be expected. “So, what did you find out?”

Jonghyun frowned. “I got rid of a lot of creatures that would have come here,” he glanced at Seon. “I got attacked by some werewolves, and was protected by a…light. It destroyed the werewolves. I have been trying to figure it out what it was.”

JJ nodded again. “I have a friend in the department that might know what it is. I will talk to him about it.”

“Thank you. I would appreciate it,” Jonghyun smiled, looking completely exhausted. “I am really glad to see you guys, but I’m about to collapse. I’m tired.”

Seon smiled at Karam, who had still not let go of Jonghyun. “I’m sure we all understand that. I just wanted to bring him to you guys before everyone else saw that he was back. He’s back and safe, so everything should be okay.” He glanced at JJ, who nodded. The oldest finally walked over to Jonghyun and hugged him.

The next morning, JJ called his friend before driving over to the police department. He was met in the parking lot. “Thank you for meeting me, Lumin. I appreciate it. You look like hell.” He grinned at Lumin, who nodded.

“Thanks...I know. I haven’t had much sleep recently. These late shifts are killing me,” Lee Seunghyun, better known as Lumin, smiled at him, yawning. “I just got off shift. Do you want to go grab something to eat? I don’t know about you, but I’m starving, and I could REALLY use some more coffee.”

JJ nodded. “Me, too,” he grinned, and got in the driver’s side of his BMW. Lumin got in the passenger side. They drove to a diner and ordered a pot of coffee. While they were looking at their menus, Lumin smiled. “So, what did you need to ask about?” he looked like he was about to fall asleep, with dark circles under his eyes.

JJ frowned. “Well, Jonghyun just got back last night…with an explanation. What I wanted to ask you about was something that…protected him. I was confused, and I think he was, too.”

Lumin drained his first cup of coffee, and smiled at the waitress when she returned to take their orders. They both ordered bacon and eggs which came with hash browns and toast. Once she was gone again, he turned his attention back to JJ. “Confused, huh? What was this, um, protector like?”

JJ sighed. “He said it was a light. It flashed and killed all the werewolves. Is that an ally, or someone with some powers or something?”

Lumin shook his head. “I can’t believe I hadn’t told you about them. They are called Lights. Nice and simple name for destructive creatures. No one really knows why they do it, but they kill people with their light,” he took another drink of his second cup of coffee. “Sometimes they will protect people, but it is usually to throw them off go after them later. I still need to look more into what they do and where they came from.”

“Well, does the department know about these Lights?” JJ didn’t appear completely sold on this idea yet, but trusted Lumin.

Their food arrived, so they waited a minute to continue. After a minute, Lumin took a bite of his bacon. “JJ, the department doesn’t believe in stuff like that. If something strange happens, it is always explained some other way. They don’t want to believe that creatures are killing, or hell, even existing. People either believe in the supernatural or they cover it up. The justice system and department often choose to believe that only people are out there doing bad things.”

JJ nodded. “Yeah. That’s what I’ve heard. On the other hand, the supernatural are seen as heroes…Vampires, for instance.”

“Yeah. I’m not saying that all creatures are evil,” Lumin smiled at him. “I mean, there are a lot of good ones, just like there are a lot of good people. It’s when they cross the line that they need to be taken care of. The problem is, you guys can’t do it in the public eye, or people will go all crazy over it. It could be bad, and you guys would get in trouble.”

JJ sighed. “Yeah. It’s a delicate balance. So, these Lights are more commonly bad than good?”

Lumin frowned. “Yeah. There have been ‘unexplained’ cases of people dying from flashes of light, and also animals and crops disappearing. What I know is that I have never seen them help people out, though I’m not completely unconvinced that they could not be good. I will keep an eye on this and see what I can come up with. I’ll be your eyes and ears in the department, okay?”

JJ grinned at him. “Thank you. I know I can always count on you, Seunghyun.”

Lumin nodded. “You’re welcome.”

Hyuna found Taehee, that afternoon. “Hey, would you like to go do something? You haven’t been out of the house in a while.” She grinned at him.

Taehee stared at her for a moment, then smiled back. “Sure. That would be nice. Where would you like to go?”

Hyuna shook her head. “It doesn’t matter to me, honestly. I just want to take you out.”

Taehee placed some files into as stack. “Sounds fun. I would like that.” He didn’t tell her how nervous he was about going out with her.
