As I Say

Fears, Anger & Hideouts

Saying she was terrified was bit of a understatement. Even after living with Hoseok for a little over two weeks now he had his moments where she thought he might force himself on her, like the night he had her walked around in nothing but her bra and panties.

Of course he repeatedly told her that he'd never force her to do anything she didn't want to, he profusely said she'd come to him when she was ready. Jaclyn didn't know whether she could trust him or not, and she supposed on a higher level if he had wanted her badly enough he would have raped her by now however, he seemed to have a soft spot for her. He was always buying her things or doting on her; and she graciously took the gifts and thanked him with a nice dinner or meek words she wasn't sure he could understand.

That was one of her few problems, the lack of communications and how hard it was between his broken English and her semi malformed Korean. He seemed to take some happiness when she would attempt to speak his native language.

"I just want to be happy," he had said to her the day he'd brought her into his home, or rather now - their home. She didn't really know what to call it now that she thought about it.

If happiness was all he craved surely he could have any woman he wanted, he was far from unattractive - she'd caught herself staring at him a couple times while he slept next to her. It was an odd emotion that would flood through her when he'd open his eyes sleepily just to smile when he saw her; like she was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen. Never in her life had a man looked at her the way he did, and it scared her in a way that she couldn't explain.

Hoseok hadn't lied.

He was a very simple man, he required very few things from her and cooking was one of them. Twice a week she attended a cooking class with him so she could better understand how to cook traditional dishes he liked; but she found he also liked tasted dishes her family ate during special times of year.

She had already made him her mother's famous baked spahgetti and she swore she'd never seen a man eat that quickly in her entire life. It was like he hadn't eaten in days with how he basically inhaled the food in front of him. He'd made her promise that she'd make that a couple times a month, and she had no objections since it reminded her of home.

Home. She'd stopped crying herself to sleep at night a couple days ago, she knew the situation at hand was wrong but there were far more things in her life going right than wrong. Even if the situation wasn't exactly something she'd wanted for herself, she found the nights he went off to work she was worried. What if he didn't come back? What would happen to her then? She didn't have any money or a way to get into his bank accounts to buy a ticket home; would she even be an american citizen anymore?

There were so many things she didn't know, and they terrified her to no end. The front door bursted open and she stood up from the couch suddenly; unsure if she should run or not. The irritated look on Hoseok's face; a mixture of anger, fear and utter annoyance sent a chill down her spine.

"Is everything okay?" she asked him softly and he looked at her.

"We have to pack, now," he said to her seriously.

Jaclyn had never seen him this way before, something was very obviously wrong and she knew that when he was ready - he'd tell her. Right now, she knew their lives were potentially in danger and the last thing she wanted was to die before she saw her family again. Nodding she headed to their bedroom where they both slept. He pulled three duffel bags out of the closet and began to shove their clothes into without any kind of packing technique so she began to do the same. Once all their clothes were packed she grabbed a trash bag and began to toss all their necessities into the bag before shoving it in with their clothing then zipped it up. He handed her a hoodie, sweats, sneakers and some money.

"We're going to have to go under the radar for the night, I'll explain everything when we get to a hotel," he told her lightly as he cupped her face in his hands, then kissed her forehead. "Change quickly, then we'll leave," he said to her. "Make sure the hood is up when we leave,"

Jaclyn nodded then did as he said, wasting no time. Obviously a plan had fell through. She'd heard him talking on the phone, she didn't know who with but she made out a few words on Hoseok's end. Something about a dangerous job, but he agreed to it anyway laughing at the person on the phone for being such a worry wort. "I'm ready," she murmured as she pulled the hood up over her head then licked her lips lightly. Everything seemed to be happening so quickly, and it was hard for her to process it all. His hand laced with hers as they walked out of the apartment, surprisingly her hand clutched his tightly in fear that if she let go she'd get lost.

"I've got you, I'm not going to let anything happen to you," he murmured as he pulled her to his side, wrapped his arm around her waist. The tension in the air was so thick she doubted even a knife could cut through it, but as they walked she noticed he seemed to become less tense which put her more at ease than anything. Jaclyn hated Hoseok but at the same time ultimately depended on him for everything which scared her more than the mobs whom she knew wanted to kill him.

Checking into the hotel was a bit of a process, he had to make it perfectly clear that the room should not be booked under his name. The clerk assumed they'd run away together because of their disheveled appearance, that is until he flashed them their marriage license. The room was large, it had a great view but he closed the curtains quickly then dimmed the lights so their room wasn't too bright. Once they were settled he pushed the hood off Jaclyn's head and helped her unzip her jacket.

"You okay?" he murmured softly as he looked at her.

"I am," she replied as she looked back at him.

Hoseok nodded and gently pressed his lips against hers, "Things are going to change, and I need you to trust me. I know I haven't exactly been the best person to you, and the situation I've put you in is far from ideal on both ends of the spectrum... but I need you to trust me,"

Jaclyn didn't know if she should or not, but he seemed desperate for her to listen to what he had to say. Since she didn't know exactly what was going on she had no choice but to trust him, "Okay, I trust you," she whispered softly.

He laughed,"Trust isn't about words for me, it's about actions," he murmured, "When I say something do it, don't ask any questions just know I'm looking out for your best interest."

Jaclyn nodded,"Alright," she spoke as she looked at him, "What is going on?"

"The man who got you to me, do you remember him?" he asked her softly as he licked his lips.

Jaclyn nodded, how could she forget, it was the most traumatizing day of her entire life but she listened to him.

"He was killed today," he murmured, and he saw her eyes widen. "He named me to take his place, now this is very dangerous for the both of us. I have inherited his money, titles, properties, everything," he told her. "Til I can get a group of trust worthy people to protect us, and allies with other mobs there is no way we can be in the public eye,"

"I see," she murmured softly and with that Jaclyn leaned into him. "Will my family be safe?"

"Yes, yes they will be I actually made sure of it before I came home," he told her lightly, "There is no one who can reach them now, so don't worry about them," Hoseok smoothed her hair down, his fingers lacing through her hair as he held her close to his body.

"I'll protect you," he murmured softly, "You just have to believe in me,"

"I do believe in you," Jaclyn murmured, the words even shocked her because this world was not something she'd ever planned on getting dragged into. However, now that she was there it seemed like there was no way out and the thought scared her but the thought of him doing this alone scared her even more.

"What is he doing to me?" she thought to herself as she buried her face into his chest.
