Warning Sirens

1

Yoori ran her fingers through her short, pink hair. The crisp air of the mid-autumn met her bare fingertips as she made her way towards the Computer Science building. She tugged on her sleeves of her sweater to cover her fingers more, it was a Friday with nothing on the schedule for the rest of the day other than just working on her coding project. She passed by people, keeping her eyes on the ground before her feet. There were certain flaws in her personality and demeanor she really hoped to fix, but just hadn't gotten around to it. One of the flaws that plagued her the most was her inability to interact with boys, she could hardly talk around them.
She finally made it into the CS building, as the glass door shut behind her she felt calm wash over her. Nobody was ever on the fourth floor during this time of the day.
The fourth floor contained nine different computer labs with high speed wifi in each of them.

Jungkook glanced at his friends who were sitting around the table on the quad, each doing something that was ever so them.
Jimin was sketching all while talking about a cute dog he'd seen off campus, lamenting about his lack of dog ownership.
Taehyung was leaning over Jimin's shoulder nodding excitedly as the elder spoke.
Yugyeom was pouring over his Organic Chemistry textbook, fingers tapping in time to whatever was playing on his headphones.
Seokjin was eating some ramyun, a sated smile on his handsome face.
Jungkook himself was typing some code into his laptop for a project for his game design course.
Jimin's lament was steadily growing in volume, finally unable to concentrate Jungkook's eyes snapped up from his screen.
"I should be going."
"Where to?" Jimin questioned, cutting his rant about the puppy free campus off.
"Computer Science building."
Without another word the CS major stood and slipped his laptop into his bag.

The glass door shut with a thud as he entered the building, he decided to head for the fourth floor because it had the best wifi, that's usually where the video game club held meetings. He stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the fourth floor.

Yoori let out a soft sigh, she paused her coding and opened the internet. Her usual news page opened and a running banner across the bottom was an alert to Seoul Nation University.
'Gunman suspected to be entering campus, northern ideals at play. Campus set to go into lock-down.'
Just as she finished reading the crawler the warning sirens across the campus began to blare. Fear shook her, she grasped at her computer and pulled it with her underneath the desk she was sitting at.
She took in a shaky breath as she huddled underneath the desk, she felt her phone buzz in her pocket.

Jungkook heard the sirens start blaring, his phone went off and quickly pulled it from his back pocket.
It was a campus wide text message; | All students are to take cover in a room, lock the door until you are told otherwise. |
Without thinking much he quickly ducked into a lab room.
He pulled the door shut and locked it quickly.
He turned around to see a figure hidden under one of the desks.
"Who are you?" He asked, as intimidatingly as he could manage.
A girl stuck her head out from underneath the desk, she looked terrified.
"P-Pyo Yoori."
Her large dark eyes were wide as she looked at him, her face was slowly turning pink as he looked at her.

Yoori cursed herself for not locking the door, now she was trapped with the 'Prince of Computer Science'.
Jeon Jungkook was known throughout the entire department as a highly attractive and intelligent young man. He hardly ever spoke to girls in general, but he received many confessions. She looked away.
He didn't say anything else, he only crawled beneath a desk away from hers.
She could still feel the heat on her face, she wasn't used to being in situations where she was alone with a boy.

As the time passed, the sirens continued.
The still air of the room was suddenly disrupted by the sound of two gunshots going off outside the door.
Yoori's breath hitched and she sank farther into the well of the desk she was hiding beneath.
A soft hiss met her ears, she slowly opened her eyes and saw Jungkook motioning towards her.
His voice came out almost silently, "You're visible from the doorway, come here."
She almost refused, but as she was about to shake her head another shot was heard. The newest round was closer than the previous two had been. She quickly scurried across the isle to where he was hidden. He shifted as far away as possible.

Jungkook had seen Yoori around the department but she seemed pretty quiet and never spoke to anyone. Her face all but matched her pink chin length hair, she pressed her body as far away from him as possible.
He'd never noticed how pretty she was until they were only around 15 centimeters apart. Her face was rather small, but her cheeks were filled out. Here eyes were ever so slightly covered by her very large glasses.
She was shaking.
Another shot went off and her body flew towards his, her face buried in his shoulder.
He felt himself go stiff.
As the awkwardness subsided ever so slightly he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer to himself.

"W-what if they try to come in here?" She whispered in his ear.
"They won't," He said, as calmly as he could manage, "If they do, I'll make sure you're safe."
Her face was now pressed to the side of his chest, his long arm wrapped around her narrow shoulders.
They shots faded away from the hall, he released the breath he'd been holding in.
He could feel his phone begin buzzing in his pocket.
Slowly the buzzes faded away, after they were done he slowly reached for the device. He pulled it from his jeans and saw at least fifteen messages from various people.
One from his roommate:
| Are you okay??? There were shots in the CS building, text me back I'm worried. |
The rest were similar to that from other people, his parents questioning his safety so far away from them.

Yoori let out a soft breath, all she could smell was Jungkook's soap that wafted from him. She could feel calm washing over her slowly, she knew that she was okay. Her nerves still tingled as she held tightly onto one of the most attractive boys on campus. She couldn't bring herself to look up at him for fear that she would actually explode. As she thought the noise was coming to an end she relaxed her grip on his white t-shirt. She pulled away and refused to look up to meet his gaze.
"S-sorry." She whispered out.
"I-it's whatever." He muttered.
She scooted away from him ever so slightly.
The air in the room was still again, the sirens still wailing outside the building.
There was an eerie quality to the situation.
Just as she thought it was going to be okay again there was a jiggle on the door handle. She felt herself go rigid again.

Another shake of the handle had the pair still and silent. After the shaking failed to open the door, the deep voice belonging to a man counted down. There was a huge crash that sent Yoori flying into Jungkook out of fear again. He held her tightly, moving his body so that she was covered by him.
"Anyone in here?" A rough voice called, "Check the room just in case."
There were several sets of heavy footfalls in the room. The shoes hit the tile floors as they wandered around, finally coming up to the desk where the pair was hidden. There were army issued boots, above that were what seemed to be military fatigues.
"There are two kids in here." A different voice from before called out.
The pair of legs slowly lowered to reveal a face, it was a man in uniform.
"We're clearing the floor, I need you to stand up and follow me please."
Jungkook carefully moved Yoori behind him and moved out from beneath the desk. He turned to extend his hand to her. She slowly reached for it and allowed him to pull her to her feet.

The pair stood behind several armed men as they led them to the staircase.
Yoori's small voice was just barely audible beside Jungkook.
"My laptop..."
He almost wanted to start laughing at her priorities, but it was that moment that he realized his was still in the room. Surely his professor would be lenient on him about the project.
"We can comeback together and get them." He mumbled to her.
She nodded ever so slightly, her eyes on the ground in front of her. She was still visibly shaken up, without much though he reached out for her hand. There was a paused before she took his hand.
