3. Walk Buddy

Diana Fritillary

Speyeria Diana

Bummer, you woke up about 5 minutes before your alarm, and now you're just sitting on the edge of your bed, rapidly blinking your eyes before your ticking clock. Just as you were about to exhaust out your first yawn, the infuriating beeping comes on, leaving you no choice but to finally get up and face another day in long, tiring day in hell.

Finishing your morning routine and breakfast, you stepped inside the bathroom and all of a sudden, you were struck out with some distracting thoughts. At first, you tried to brush it away, convincing yourself your brain is just too early to function.

"Dammit."

You cursed under your breath the moment you realized you've spilled out almost half of your shampoo as your body wash.

"Seriously?"

You flinched back, scrunching your face in disgust as you spit it out after split-second savoring the bizarre taste of your toothpaste in which turned out actually to be your facial cream.

"Aigoo~"

Mumbling to yourself, you slowly walked in front of the mirror and slapped your cheeks with your two hands repeatedly, whispering to yourself to focus and drive out all these crazy thoughts stressing your half-conscious brain.

This didn't stop though, thankfully, you've finished packing your things up and assured yourself you're ready to go. Making sure everything's secured inside the house, you walked outside and opened the main gate. To your surprise, almost giving you a heart attack, there stood a guy, about centimeters taller than you, flashing a bright and haunting grin before you.

"Oh, sh— what the heck?"

You clutched on to your dearest heart as you take two steps back and few deep breathe ins and outs before finally realizing it isn't just some random guy giving you a creepy grin but rather a friendly warm one.

"Sorry if I surprised you!" He apologized, bowing his head before you but the huge smile on his face, still not wearing out.

"What are you doing here, uhh. . . Jungkook?" You asked, scratching your head and regaining your lost poise as you locked the gate of your house.

"Umm. . . I just want someone to walk with to the school," he answers, scratching the back of his head with a sheepish smile as he looks back at you, waiting for a response.

". . . Or do you walk with someone else?" He asks as soon as he noticed your brows rose.

"What? Don't tell me you don't walk with someone to school."

"Oh, about that," you nodded slowly, taking a deep sigh first and exhaling with a light chuckle, "Min Ah doesn't like that so I would always walk alone going and leaving school."

"Is 'Min Ah' your best friend?"

You smiled with a nod, making him nod back with a wider smile.

"Well, how about I become your walk buddy?"

"Huh?" You looked at him, eyes widened in confusion.

"Let's say I'd be there when you need someone to walk with, so you never have to walk alone— deal?" He leans in closer, lowering his height to level you with a bright, pleading smile which makes it hard for you to resist.

You chuckled and rolled your eyes away from him, "Alright."

Just then, you heard someone snickering. . . it can't be him, can he?
You turned around to look at Jungkook, now his two hands covering his mouth and eyes crinkled in which you're now assuming he's trying not to laugh.

"What's so funny?" You asked, yet raising another eyebrow.

He didn't reply, instead he pointed down to your toes, and now you know why. . . you're wearing two different socks— an Iron Man print on the left and a standard white sock on the right.

"Ugh, not again," you placed a palm on your forehead, muttering all the curse words inside your brain and laughing it off as you turned back to him, "just wait here, I'll go change them and double-check if ever I forgot something."

Heck now you're hoping you didn't forgot to wear on your undies or you might want to just let the earth swallow you from the embarrassment. In front of a mirror, you took one last glance and glared at your reflection, intimidating yourself into not doing any more stupid things.

As you got out, the first thing you noticed is his face turning red as if he's in the verge of bursting into fits of laughter.

"Haha, just kidding. Let's go."

It is perhaps for the first time you've taken the time to appreciate walking into school as the early birds chirping and cool breeze given by the morning greet you. Unaware, a smile was slowly drawn onto your face, not because the sun is about to shine but because somehow, you feel warmth and comfort in this guy's company.

'What am I feeling?' You thought to yourself as you look up at the smiling Jungkook, mindlessly taking your steps forward and almost lost track of reality the moment you stepped inside the buzzing academy.

. . .

The next morning, around 20 minutes before 6 am, yawning Namjoon got up and is ready to start another day by the same old routine, "Yah, Jungkookie-ah!" He groggily called out, "Wake up!"

He rapidly blinked his eyes the moment he pulled the sheets off, double-checking in case he's still in his dreamland.

Not long before Hoseok has entered the same room with one eye shut, "Wake up now, Kook—"

"Hyung, he's not here."

"What!?" The brothers asked in chorus, eyes still being rubbed as they continued to look around the room.

Somewhere in between the busy search, Taehyung stopped and started sniffing in all directions, "Do you smell that?"

"Smell what? All that I can smell is your morning breath," Yoongi replied with a blunt and morning deep voice, making the other brothers laugh.

"'No, no," Taehyung shook his head off as he continued to sniff again, this time, getting closer into a particular area, "is someone cooking?"

Taking this into a consideration, the brothers then started sticking their noses up to find the same aroma Taehyung is talking about.

"Well, it's Seokjin Hyung for sure," Jimin commented with a slight shrug, continuing to go search for Jungkook.

"But I'm here?"

Dumbfounded by the familiar voice, they all turned around to see their oldest brother with wide eyes, looking as confused as they are.

"If it's not Hyung, then. . . who is?"

With a slowly tilt of their heads, the brothers shared one common look of worry.

"Did someone barge into our house!?" Hoseok uttered out loud in sheer panic, making all of them rush downstairs, almost tripping into each other's ankles.

"Good morning, hyungs!"

"What the—!?"

"Is that really you, Jungkook?"

Right before their very eyes is their youngest brother, corners of the lips stretched out into a full smile, seemingly brighter than the sun that's about to rise up.

"Maybe he's a doppelganger, and kidnapped the real Jungkook!"

Jungkook grinned at his brothers' silliness, "I've cooked something for you and I hope you will like it," he carefully placed the other sets of breakfast meals on the table, one by one serving 6 plates with an equal amount of rice.

"Well, I must get going now— I don't want to be late for school. See ya later!"

Flashing one last enthusiastic smile before his brothers, he waved them goodbye as he sprang forward and out of the house, leaving all of them with jaws dropped down.

"What is with that kid?"

"This is actually delicious."

The munching noises distracted the brothers, making them turn around to see Taehyung already munching on his breakfast meal, filling up his cheeks into satisfaction.

"Everything is delicious for you," Jimin said with a hearty laugh as he sat down together with the rest of them.

"Whoah, since when did Jungkook learn how to cook?" Hoseok asked, letting out an impressed shake of his head the moment he had the taste of the food.

"I don't wanna say this but. . . is he on crack?"

"Aish! That kid makes us go on crack."

With that, everyone laughed at Seokjin's frustration, finding it even funnier with his two brows meeting into a collision.

"But seriously, something is with that boy."

"Yeah, I'm not used to this Jungkook— I mean not that I'm saying I don't like it but this sudden change is just. . ."

"Maybe, it's because of a girl."

Wide eyed, the brothers' hearts almost jumped out in surprise as they all turned to the one who's just made this unexpected statement.

"But he never liked girls!"

"You mean— he is scared of them!"

"Alright, that’s enough wild guessing and let’s just go find it out ourselves."

Quickly finishing their morning course, they headed out, asked a couple of neighbors in hopes of getting a sight of their youngest brother before reaching his school.

"Oh my holy horse!" Hoseok exclaimed as soon as he has spotted Jungkook.

"Shh!" Jimin shushed, covering his mouth and dragging him down along with the rest of them behind the same trail of bush.

"Whoah, who's that girl and why is he talking to her?"

"Maybe he woke up early in the morning just to meet her?"

"Maybe he likes that girl?"

"Or maybe they are secretly dating?"

"Or just maybe. . . something already happened to them?"

Surely, the bush that safely covers them might be a bother by its itchy leaves but what Seokjin suggested among the others' paranoid thoughts shocked them.

"Hyung!" They all shot him a dirty look before returning their attention back to the main scenario they should be focusing on.

Seokjin just scratched the back of his head with an innocent pout, "Sorry, it's just a random thought."

"What a random thought that was!"

"Aigoo~ there they go, heads down!" Yoongi ordered with a loud whisper, and a moment later, proceeded to raise a hand signal for them to finally go out and quietly stalk you and Jungkook.

The two of you started to walk your way into the school, now feeling a bit less awkward than yesterday as you're now having a more confident conversation with him, not minding to be late for your first class.

"Oops, I think I must've dropped my handkerchief somewhere," you mumbled as you clutch onto your pockets, realizing your favorite piece of soft cotton cloth is missing.

"Oh? Stay here, I'll go look back and—"

'Oh no' is what all of the other brothers are internally screaming as they freeze in their positions, fingers crossed as Jungkook turned around.

"Hyungs. . ."

Looking really shocked, Jungkook darted his eyes left to right and right to left, giving each of them a confused look as if he needs an explanation on the spot.

"Are you. . . following us?"

The older brothers looked at each other, shooting unexplainable expressions before finally into Jungkook again, "Hahaha, you silly! We're just umm. . . "

"We're going to buy flour." Taehyung continued with a quarter-confident grin.

Jungkook raised an eyebrow and proceeded to look at them with suscpicion.

"But you've already walked past the market."

The brothers once again looked at each other with now with pure disbelief, "Ahehehehe~ TaeTae, you idiot," Hoseok sheepishly whispered with a sarcastic grin plastered on his face, trying to cover up the sudden idiocy.

Another set of awkward chuckling went on before they could finally muster up the remaining courage to attempt making up another excuse, "Actually, we're just umm. . . going to the mall, y'know?"

The youngest one tilted his head again in doubt and blurted out with an outrageous question as he pointed at their clothes, "With those!?"

Realizing they're just in their regular pajamas, some of them even in their usual boxer shorts, they covered their faces in embarrassment.

"Who's the idiot now, Hyung?" Taehyung mockingly snarled at Hoseok, ending it out with an unamused smirk.

"God, these idiots," Yoongi muttered, trailing off with a curse as he face-palmed himself, never wanting to remove them again and wishing this has never happened.

"Taehyung, Jimin," Jungkook called, "aren't you going to school?"

"Don't forget we're having a week break."

"Aish! We'll just go back!" Namjoon vented out, completely flustered in front of you as they all turned their backs when you spoke.

"Wait— Yoongi?" You asked, tilting your head as you try to get a better angle of the familiar guy's face.

"Kim Nabi?"

He slowly looks at you and the moment he remembers, he covers his face and mentally swore this is one of the worst things that had ever happened— of all days must you meet again with only his pajamas on and his younger brother humiliating not only him but his whole family in front of an acquainted girl.

"You guys know each other?" Jungkook, together with the other brothers asked in unison and shock as they all turned their heads on either of you.

"And you know each other?" Yoongi returned the question as he tried to hold still on the edge of losing all the dignity's left in him.

"Oh, and you're Taehyung, right? The one Mrs. Nam likes?" You asked, facing the other brother, trying to analyze his full features, making sure you're not getting the wrong guy.

Everyone was so shocked and confused that no one even answered either of the questions thrown at each other until this one person broke out the silence.

"Aigoo, you kids are going to be late!" Seokjin clapped out loud, snapping everyone back into reality where they should all get going for the busy day ahead of them.

"Hyung's right, we need to go!" Jungkook quickly agreed as he held your hand and pulled you away with his other hand waving at his brothers goodbye, beaming his face up to them, "See ya later hyungs~"

Reaching up a distance, he now faced to look at you with an even more radiant smile. You couldn't help but smile back, reflecting the purest expression you've ever seen as the two of you run your way to your school, hands now interlaced with each other— nothing romantic, just straight up trying to have fun.
