14. Best Friend

Yri's POV

"Who's there?" I asked out loud, making sure whoever is outside the door can hear my unwelcoming voice.

"Kim Taehyung."

It might be anyone who's pretending to be him but that deep, friendly baritone voice I've heard for years being a fangirl, I'm sure it definitely is Kim Taehyung.

"’Kim Taehyung’ who?" I asked, now with a smile on my face and trying to mess up with him by turning his question into a knock-knock joke.

"Your future husband."

"Future husband whaaaaat?" I laughed out loud, walking up to the doorknob and laughing even more before getting all the strength I could get to open it, "Look, I'm already married to Park Jimin so whoever you are, I deeply apologize."

I finally opened the door and there stood a strikingly attractive guy, about 13 centimeters taller than me, wearing a rectangular smile on his face and hands full of paper bags.

"Wow, you're really one loyal Park Jimin stan," he teased me as I help him unpack the bags and carefully place down the foods he's brought.

"Of course! Remember the saying: 'Once a fangirl, always and a lifetime fangirl.'"

I flashed a smile to him before grabbing a handful of french fries and devour them single-handedly. Just, look at all these foods right here~ he surely knows me too well!

"Why not forever?"

"In this mortal world, there's no such thing as 'forever'."

"So what do you call your grandparents— just friends with benefits?"

"The heck? What I mean is that there's nothing permanent in this—"

"Oh really? How about the permanent marker?"

I shot him a dirty look, completely unamused by his lame joke and proceed to drink on my favorite flavor of bubble drink.

"Just come to think of it, the world is—"

"Wooow, since when did you get so logical about stuff like this?"

"And since when did you become my 'future husband'?"

I tried to throw the question back at him with a cocky smirk.

"That's just a joke, you know."

I was about to laugh when he spoke again with now a more serious face.

"Just because I'm a playful person doesn't mean I take all things as a joke."

Umm. . . I hope he's not that serious? He looks like he's staring deep into my soul, what the heck?

"I hope you see me as a normal person who can take things seriously as well."

"Hold up, can you please calm down? I'm just trying to keep a light mood and now you're going so fast will all these," I paused and put on my best impression of him as I try to imitate him, "'I hope you see me as normal person. . .’" my words trailed off with my face officially mocking him until the room turned all silent.

. . .

We stared at each other, almost deeply into our souls.

"HAHAHAHAHA!"

And burst out laughing we almost choked on our foods.

"Why so serious?" I teased him and this time, he's the one who's imitating me and the ridiculously funny face he's doing right now is just making me laugh even more.

So, this is Kim Taehyung— my closest friend in their group. First of all, he's not my best friend just because he is my ultimate bias' best friend; he himself is the one who actually asked me if we could be 'best friends'. Yes, we're just best friends, nothing more, and besides, he's ships me so much with Jimin. Lastly, he's honestly the best guy best friend you could ever have— minus the fact that he can wake you up and call you through the phone in the middle of an ungodly hour just to tell you a lame joke.

"I've read your long emotional posts."

"Oh, that's. . . nothing."

"That's what every girls say when deep inside, they literally are not okay."

I laughed out loud and pushed him gently, "How did you know? Are you a girl in your past life?"

He laughed back and picked up a burger to dig in, "Nah, I just read that in an article."

Eventually, our laughs fell into a deep, emotional drama until I started crying again. I'm just so glad that this guy beside me, who's lending a shoulder to cry on, exists in this world. It's funny how most people think of him as someone too dumb but in reality, he's really smart and the way he talks and gives advices. . . is just something you need to hear in times you need them the most.

"Chaemin, you know you're not just a 'fan' to us, right?" He paused as he took a sip from his drink and looked at me straight in the eye with all seriousness, "ARMY is part our family, and you're all special to us."

I avoided his gaze and deeply sighed with my eyes closed.

"But you know, honestly? Since I was an international ARMY, I would always get jealous and frustrated with the way you treat the Korean ARMYs."

"Hey, don't say that," he widened his eyes in shock, "we love all of you equally but the language barrier is just you know. . ." he explained with his hands gesturing in all directions, making me chuckle.

I smiled faintly. Besides, I totally understand what he's trying to say.

"Chem."

"Hm?"

"Is it really hard to be a fan?"

I chuckled at the silly question and patted him, "Words can't express how hard it is, Tae."

"Wow, I salute you all!" He clapped and made this 'salute' sign with a smile.

"But, it depends on the fan— there are overly dedicated fans, fans that fairly support them, and you know, there are a lot of them."

He nodded slowly in agreement and continued to finish his food until we ran of ideas to talk about so he borrowed my phone and took a couple of selcas of himself, besides, he already knows my password.

"Aww~ look you still haven't changed my contact name!" He teasingly said with his derpy face.

"Of course, you're the one who set that up." I answered as I rolled my eyes.

He laughed and not long after, he returned back my phone, after all, there's nothing to hide in there— my phone is filled with 90% Bangtan Sonyeondan, mostly Park Jimin, 9% Sonyeoniq, and 1% miscellaneous.

"Hey, have you ever wondered why I wanted to become like you?"

His reaction made me wince in confusion because he almost choked on his food, especially those exaggerated widened eyes, "You wanted to be a guy!?"

"No, silly," I laughed softly and gently hit him, "I mean— to become a K-Pop idol."

"Oh," he scratched his head and asked in an almost innocent tone, "why?"

"Hmm. . . Honestly, it's just that I wanted to meet you guys personally and up close."

With that, I wasn't even aware I'm smiling like an idiot as a picture of Jimin appeared out of nowhere inside my brain.

"Us?"

I nodded and continued, "For once, just for once only, I wanted you to notice me."

"Have I seen you before in one of our concerts, fansign events, fanmeetings, and such?"

"I'm not sure but. . ."
"The first time I went into one of your concerts, I assumed you guys were looking at me for just a split-second, especially Jimin. But then again, I'm just one among the sea of a million fangirls."

Taehyung nodded, eager to listen for more.

"But my parents never supported me." I sighed in a deep exhale.

"Sorry to hear that; must be tough all the way for you to be finally where you are right now."

I smiled again faintly, not knowing what to say.

"So, what does it feel like now that you're close to us?"

"Hmm. . ." I looked up, trying to find the right words to say before looking back at him.
"You don't know how grateful I really am," I looked down and sighed again, "but honestly, I still feel so close yet so far away."

He looked at me with a confused face, "How come?"

"I don't know. Maybe it's the complete loss of privacy— every step I take feels like a camera is secretly flashing before me, people trying to know every single detail about me, and then judge me for it."

"I feel that all the time," he shared with a chuckle, almost finishing the next appetizer.

"But if I remain an ordinary fangirl, before I knew it— my bias would already be dating someone and. . ."

I stopped in between my words as I know I'm sounding really immature right now.

"I just can't explain the hard feeling!"

I snatched the burger from his hands and took a bite from it, "Basically, if you're a fan, you're definitely going to get all these unexplainable feelings!"

Taehyung looked like a small kid that's been stolen a candy from but seeing me almost finishing up his chicken sandwich, he shrugged it off and scrambled through the paper bags to find himself another treat.

"Has your parents attended at least into one of your concerts?"

My heart dropped the moment I heard the word 'parents' and sighed deeply with my eyes closed, "No. It's been years since I've last talked to them personally."

Another awkward silence. Sigh. Just the thought of them can make me burst into tears.

"And if I ever get the chance to communicate with them— it would always just end up with an argument."

"Don't worry, Chem."

Taehyung paused, put down his dessert, and leaned closer to give me a hug which made me surprised.

"One day, your parents will be so proud of their wonderful daughter— just like Yoongi's Hyung's parents."

Alright, I couldn't help it. I started crying like an actual kid as I hugged Taehyung back and he hugged me even tighter, fondling my hair and whispering to me that everything will be okay in a warm, comforting, and optimistic voice.

It lasted for about half an hour until I finally have calmed down and decided to turn on the television to completely divert my attention from the emotions filling up inside. . . and oh so great timing— it's a replay of their debut performance.

"Whoah calm down!"

"We. Don't. Do. Calm!"

JUST LOOK AT PARK JIMIN. LOOK AT THOSE GREAT YOUNG MEMBERS STARTING OUT REALLY SMALL AND OH MY GOODNESS JUST LOOK AT ARSFSGSHSJMAKA!!!

"Chem, please. . ." Taehyung was even hesitating to go closer at me when I started hyperventilating and breathing in and out on this large pillow I'm trying to calm myself down with.

"Park Jimin is sooooo~" I blurt out the moment I removed the pillow from my face and throwing it up in the air then catch it to start hitting the poor guy beside me continuously for about 3 seconds before hugging it back, “PERFECT!”

"Oh no! Go away spawn of—"

I narrowed my eyes on him when he crossed a fork and spoon at me, making him laugh.

"I was just kidding, geez. You really are something when you fangirl."

We both laughed but was quickly interrupted when he pointed at the screen with an excited face.

"Look, it's me now!"

Just in time, the cameraman zoomed into Taehyung's face with a sexy stare that seemed to be popping out of the television screen and making its way through every fan's hearts.

"No! I'm cheating on Jimin. This. Is. Not. Right."

I immediately switched the channel with my hands shaking and—

"OPPA OMFGFJKSKS WAHHHH!"

It's a reaction clip of me when the cameraman caught me fangirling so hard in Bangtan's performance last year in MAMA.

"HAHAHAHAHA!"

Now I'm hitting Taehyung with a large pillow as I try to prevent him into watching more of my humiliating behavior but we're still laughing out loud because even though the volume is lowered down, my voice seems to be echoing throughout the room.

"KEM NAMJOON! KEM SAKJEN! MEN YONGGI! JUNG HOSAK! PAK JEMEEEEEEEEN OPPA AHBSHEUIS! KEM TEHYANG! JON JANGGAK! BTS! WHOOO AHSGSJS!"

And this is the reason why I never watched their MAMA performance ever again because I looked absolutely embarrassing more than anything I just wish someone would post the same video without me in it. I clearly remember that time I was hysterically screaming my lungs out to support them with an ARMY Bomb on my hand as I try to jam along with the music, and the other idols are giving me a weird look, some even are laughing because I know they couldn't believe a fellow K-Pop idol is not afraid to ruin her own image for this.

"That's why I couldn't perform properly that time!" Taehyung shared, but still laughing, meanwhile I'm here, almost losing my oxygen, resulting into a sound of a dying seal.

"OMO PAK JEMEEEEEEN HUAHSGBSSGGST JINJJA SARANGHAMNIDA HUHUHU OPPAAAAA KYAAAAAHH!"

I was cheering for them throughout their performance and even more whenever their group name is mentioned in the nominees of every category. My members of course get the second-hand embarrassment, especially Yuki.

Taehyung and I, we both shared more stories before we finally decided to leave the studio and go back to our dorms. Our managers might be looking for us by now.

"Yeah, he said he's never met someone like you before!"

We were laughing out loud here inside this elevator as we talk about my ultimate bias— he's spilling out some secrets about him and some are just unbelievably funny.

"But you know, there's a secret just between the two of us," he whispered into my ear that I swear brought chills down through my spine.

"Oh?"

He leaned back on his weight with a light sigh and looked at me with a sly smirk, which of course made me really uncomfortable.

"Secret."

It was a low, almost inaudible tune, but I can definitely read from his lips. Wow, now the curiosity is killing me. Dammit Taehyung, you shouldn't have said something like that if you're not going to tell me what it is after!

"I'll tell you. . ."

He stepped forward, leaning closer to me until I can finally feel his warm breathing. What the heck are you thinking, Taehyung?

". . . in one condition."

*Ding Dong*

Thank sweetest angels from above, the elevator doors have finally opened up, inviting me to escape outside from this weird guy's sudden behavior.

"Lalala~"

As fast as lightning, I hopped outside and sang this stupid lullaby, pretending to act like nothing happened. I swear, Kim Taehyung is that one friend who can be really flirty and then make you feel uncomfortable just for fun. Just. For. Fun. JUST FOR FUN!

"Good evening."

I beamed up to the aged woman in front of us with the brightest smile I could ever bestow upon her. Followed by a greeting, we both also bowed our heads before her to show respect, and I proceeded to scoop something inside my bag.

"Th-thank you."

Her wrinkled smile made me smile as well, and my heart completely melted the moment she hugged me; I adjusted my height to hug her back and whispered into her ears, grinning wider than before.

"Your day wouldn't be completed without a cup of tea, right?"

It lasted for about a minute until she had to release herself from the hug or I'd be crying again. She's by the way one of our assistants, might even be the oldest of them— she's worked on a couple of companies before but she said she found peace here in Ulysses Entertainment, and besides working with us has brought her joy. Ugh, I know I have a soft spot for her.

"I see you're really close with everyone in here," Taehyung commented as soon as we continued to move on.

"We're like one big family here!"

No reply. I turned behind me to see him mouth agape, eyes exploring the inside of the large spacious building. Honestly, our entertainment building looks really elegant since the CEO is pretty posh herself. Yes, our CEO is a strong independent wom—

"OH MY GOD! KIM TAEHYUNG!"

Our eyes grew wide open before the woman zooming towards us, panting like she's being chased by a pack of wolves.

"Oh, Yeosoo Sunbae-nim it's nice to see—"

I was about to bow before her with my awkward greeting just when she jumped to cling her arms around Taehyung. What the hell? Now I'm just beyond shocked, like how did she even managed to with those killer heels she's wearing?

"I'm your biggest fan, Taehyung Oppa!"

Oppa? Umm. . . Not trying to be offensive but she's in her early 40's.

"Ahem ahem."

I cleared my throat and took a deep inhale as I lightly tapped her on the back.

"Oh!"

I bet she didn't even felt my presence the moment she has laid her eyes on this freaking handsome guy beside me, judging by her surprised face. We stood there for a solid minute, trying to progress the things that have escalated quickly. . . and now she's going on for a kiss! Taehyung's face is screaming 'save me' so as a best friend, of course I grabbed him and we both ran away.

Our laughing voices echoed throughout the empty and silent hallways of the building as we made our way through my group's room.

"Thanks Chem, I owe you half my life."

We were panting heavily right now but still laughing in betwe—

"Chaemin."
