A New Beginning
Chapter One
Change is hard. I don't think there has ever been a moment in my life where I actually enjoyed change. Yet, here I was starting a new life. The building in front of me felt huge and imposing yet I knew the moment I stepped in it would feel to small and cramped, the ceiling not nearly tall enough for comfort.
Taking a step forward my ankle slightly twisted in the low heels I was wearing. Instead of dwelling on the simple things I continued my walk towards the front door but it felt odd. Despite it not really being an injury Zach would have always taken immediate action in dealing with such things, he had to, even the smallest of injuries could be the difference between success or failure. Zach wasn't here anymore though, that life was gone and now I faced the prospective of a desk job. Assistant was never a position I imagined to have in my life, I always believed that I would perform to the day I died but with Zach gone I couldn't trust anyone else to keep me from falling.
My brother had been kind in offering the position to me, especially when I had little to no experience. The elevator let out a ding as the doors opened up. After a deep breath my finger found the number two button pressing it till it lit up. The elevator ride was not long enough, in all honesty no amount of time could prepare me for the next step in my life. With another deep breath I walked till I stood in front of the wood door that led into the dance studio my brother used.
I wasn't quick enough in reaching for the door, as before I could wrap my fingers around the handle it flung open and slammed into me. My bottom and hands hit the ground with a smack. A foot caught on my body leading to a body crushing into me, one of their knees jammed into my stomach causing me to lurch forward with a groan only to smack heads with the other person eliciting another groan of pain. The person was yanked off of me and then hands were reaching down, grabbing my arms and pulling on me to bring me to my feet "Are you ok?"
Everything was happening all at once, not having enough time to even register what had happened let alone the people in front of me I simply nodded my head a bit too shocked to even speak. A kind face entered my field of vision giving me a smile, "Are you sure you are all right?"
"Yes I'm fine, Thank you."
"Ana, you're here early." Keone's voice came from behind the group of boys as he walked through them to take the place of the boy who had been assuring of my will being.
"Ah...um...I was too antsy sitting around, I needed to be active and get out of that apartment. I haven't been there long enough for it to feel like home."
There was a bit of an awkward silence between the two of us. It wasn't that we were not close as siblings, I was just going through a hard time in my life and neither of us really knew how to talk about it. "Umm... so these are the guys that I am doing choreography for right now. You probably don't know them but this is Kim Namjoon, Min Yoongi, Kim Seokjin, Jung Hoseok, Kim Taehyung, Park Jimin, and that is Jeon Jungkook." Each of the boys gave a gesture of acknowledgement at their names.
I made an effort to memorize all of their faces so as not to confuse them but I knew that If I was not going to be around them very much than it wasn't even worth the effort. "Come on into the studio, let's get out of the hallway."
Keone placed a hand on my lower back and led me into the door that the boys just came from. "Go ahead and get lunch, I will let you guys have an early lunch break while Analyn and I talk." With out waiting for conformation from the boys he closed the door on them.
Im not sure why I expected to find an office behind the set of doors but for some reason when I noted the room we were in was a dance studio I felt disoriented for that brief moment. "Actually, I didn't really invite you here to be my assistant. I don't need one and even if I did I have Mari to help out when I need it."
I couldn't deny that I was irritated "What!? What is wrong with you?" MY voice was quickly rising in volume "I dropped everything to come out here because you said that you needed me, and it was all a lie. What did you expect of me to come out here for. I just got my own apartment how am I going to afford it if I am not working?"
"Hey, hey, calm down. Listen to what I have to say."
"No! Keone! I am leaving, I can't believe that you would do something like this."
"ANALYN!" His shout brought my attention straight to him. "I only offered you the job because I knew it was the only way to get you to come out here. You were wasting away back in the states and you know it."
"At least there I had the opportunity to continue working. Here I have to entirely change my profession."
"Stop being dramatic. You and I both know that you were not even dancing back home. I get it, Zach ruined your trust and happened to drop you but you can not let that hold you back from continuing to dance. Don't worry about work, you already have enough money saved up to afford that apartment until you can start performing again. I even got a studio already set up for you right here so that you can spend your days practicing. Besides I already have a potential partner lined up for you that I would like you to meet."3
I took a deep breath so I didn't explode again "You don't understand. I need someone whom I can trust to keep me safe, not just any old person. Acrobatic dancing is dangerous and if we don't trust in each other one of us can get seriously hurt."
"That's why I want you to meet him so that you can build that trust. You didn't know your other partners before you started working with them-"
"And look where that got me."
He gave a sigh and walked towards a bag that he had laying on the floor, picking it up he brought it over and handed it to me. "I asked Mari to bring this over for you." Inside the bag was one of the pairs of clothes that I would wear while practicing. "Come on I want to show you the studio and then you can make a decision. I'll step out so that you can change. Don't even try to argue!"
I sighed but did as he told as he closed the door behind him. When I was done I followed him to the next room over just as the group of boys I had just met came around the corner with various snacks in their arms. They all stopped and stared in shock at my change in attire, causing my cheeks to go bright red in embarrassment seeing how they were embarrassed by my wearing of a leotard and stirrup tights. "Ah...." Not knowing what to really say I just looked to Keone.
"Sorry guys I thought you were actually going to go out and eat not just run to the cafeteria. I was just showing Ana to the studio she will be using."
The one that had been introduced to me as Hoseok stepped forward from the group to bring the attention to himself. "Are you going to be another dance instructor for us, or are you working with one of the other groups?"
Keone thankfully answered for me "No I arranged for her to use the studio for a while. If we need her help at all I can just pop next door." As he spoke he was opening the door and gesturing for me to go inside. I was surprised to see silks hanging from the roof, walking over to them I grabbed ahold of them pulling to test if they were hung correctly "You should try them out. I had someone come in and install them so they were done properly, at least I am pretty sure that they were done right. Its probably better if you try them while I am in here just incase something goes wrong. There is a speaker over here that you can plug your phone into."
As he moved around the room I watched him walk around the room and the group of seven boys enter while looking at the strange silks in curiosity. They were being slightly rowdy but I could tell that they were slightly tired from dance practice which had probably been going on for a couple of hours already. A familiar song started to play from the speakers and I couldn't help the smile that came to my face as I glanced at Keone, him giving me a knowing smile. I let the music flow through my soul as my body began to move through the well known choreography as it moved up the the silks.
When the song came to an end the boys looked rather shocked and Keone was very pleased. "You can't tell me that you didn't enjoy that."
"No I can't" One of the boys came rushing forward and grabbed onto the silks "how do you do that?! Its so cool!" He tried pulling himself up but miserably failed. I couldn't help but to laugh at his struggles "Taehyung, it takes practice. I'll teach you if you would like me to."
The other boys began to laugh and tease Taehyung that he was not strong enough to do what I had just done with so much ease. Despite my earlier anger and disappointment I had cheered up between dancing and the groups silly antics. Taehyung made eye contact with me and gave me a sweet bad smile with a small chuckle. It warmed my heart even more so, for the first time in a while I felt truly happy from the bottom of my heart
