DADDY

CHAPTER 12 = DIRTY DANCIN

Three years ago, JIN's POV:

Mijung dragged me out of my bedroom against my will. I am not in a party mood. Neither do I want to drink, dance and be merry like she wanted to. I don't know how to climb out of this dark pit of misery that I am in, but my best friend is determined to either push me or pull me out of it come hell or high water.

I stopped caring several months ago, when my phone rang in the middle of the night. It was not good news. Nothing ever gets delivered in the middle of the night can ever be good. It was the police. They asked me to identify the bodies of two people. I screamed at the phone, I yelled at police, I swore at the coroner, I cried on the floor. I didn't want to do it. But I identified my parents. I couldn't understand why they were so cold, so still, so lifeless.
What were they thinking? How could they drive in the middle of the night to go to Seoul just because I fell down? I wasn't even hurt. I was just whining on the phone because I missed them.

I'm not ready to join the world yet. Yet here I am ready or not. Mijung scored tickets to some after party. There was dinner (appetizers), dancing and lots of alcohol. I'm a passable dancer, but only if in the mood. Somebody was passing around jello-shots. I grabbed one just so that my hands would look busy. I lost Mijung in the crowd and I don't really feel like going back down there to look for her.

I took my jello-shot and sat down the stairs. It was relatively quiet compared to the dance floor. I think this leads up to the VIP lounge but I'm not really interested in finding out. I just want to go home. My heels are killing me, and I feel awkward in this new dress. I stared at the Jell-O shot in my hand, shrugged my shoulders and tossed it back in one shot. Eck! That was nasty.
There was a snort of laughter behind me and I quickly looked around to see who it was and saw a very handsome man sitting a few steps behind me. He saluted me with his own shot glass of alcohol before tossing it back himself. He grimaced, looked at me and smiled.

"It's supposed to taste better the more you drink." He whispered conspiratorially.

"I doubt it" was my skeptical reply.

"Junmyeon" he introduced himself with a nod.

"Jin" was my short reply, nodding back politely. I would have stood up and bowed in respect but for some reason I didn't.

"Why are you sitting here? Were you waiting to go up?" Junmyeon looked at me curiously.

"Nah, I'm actually avoiding the crowd. Didn't really want to be here. I just got dragged along by my best friend who wanted to see some idols here. As you can see, I've been abandoned."

"Don't you want to party tonight?"

"Don't know, do you?"

"I'm exhausted, but I gotta do what I gotta do. It's all part of my job."

"Oh?" I was pretending to be interested but I was praying he would just go away.

I noticed a general shuffling on the dance floor as dancers started leaving the jam packed area. I noticed that the DJ switched the music to a slower tempo. It was perfect for a couples dance. No wonder these people started leaving the dance floor. Bleh, now they are starting to crowd into this little nook.

"Would you like to dance?" Junmyeon was holding out his hand. Why the hell not. I grabbed another shot from a passing waiter and tossed it back before we reached the dance floor.
Junmyeon held my hand and clasped my waist politely, slow dancing with me. Surprisingly he's not a bad dancer.

"Hey, cheer up. I could always sing for you if my dancing is as bad as I think you feel." I looked up guiltily.

"No! You're not a bad dancer.....I'm sorry I'm not a very good company right now."

"Okay" he simply said. There was silence and it was awkward. I can feel my face heating up as we continued to dance.

"Do you know what Beethoven's favorite fruit is?" He suddenly asked. Well that was random.

"What?"

"A Ba-Na-NA!" He was laughing at his own lame joke. Pitiful. I couldn't help but smile.

"Yup! There it is!" He smiled back at me. He really is handsome.

"What? What's there?" I was trying to look behind me but he wouldn't let me.

"Your smile. It's there. You should smile some more. It makes you prettier."

"So I'm ugly right now?"

"Huh? What? Wait that's not what I mean...what?" he looked so flustered I burst out laughing as he twirled me around the dance floor.

SUHO'S POV

She's was pretty when she smiled. She's captivating when she laughs. I feel strange all of a sudden. I felt my heart racing briefly. I really want to hold her closer, unfortunately the song is winding down and I know I don't have a lot of excuse to hold her my arms.

I'm going to ask her out for a walk. I heard the song end. Jin smiled and bowed down politely.
I bowed down in response.

"Would..." I started to ask her but Jongin was suddenly beside us.

"Suho, can I cut it?" A very tall, lithe, slightly darker man was addressing Junmyeon.

"Who is Suho?"

"That's also Junmyeon. Hello! I'm Jongin. Can I have the next dance please?"

I wanted to kick Kai for butting in but Jin was smiling and nodding her head so I had no choice but to step back.

Three songs later, and they were still on the dance floor. Kai was dancing flawlessly as usual but Jin was keeping well enough with him. They have undeniable chemistry. Only a blind fool couldn't see that they only had eyes for each other.

I tossed back another drink as I climbed up the stairs where I met Jin an hour ago. It tasted bittersweet in my mouth.

I woke up with a hangover beside Xiumin the following day.

JONGIN'S POV

I noticed her as soon as she came in. She was different from most of the girls here in the party. Most girls came to see or be seen. She was neither. My eyes hardly left her and my gaze followed her as she drifted off to the corner to sit on the stairs leading up to the VIP lounge.
I don't know who she is but I'm going to introduce myself. I was trying to make my way towards her when I noticed Suho was going down the stairs. They started talking after a few minutes. I felt undecided. I really, really want to know who she is, but I don't know.....

I glanced back at the dance floor and had an idea. I went to the DJ's booth and asked my friend to play a song I liked. I hurried back quickly to the stairs but Suho was already slow dancing with her. I watched as she twirled around the dance floor in the arms of another man. She was smiling and laughing before their dance ended.

My mind tells me to just give up and find another girl in the crowd. But hell!! I can't give up without at least trying. I cut in before the next song started.

She spent the rest of the party dancing wit me, and the rest of the night sleeping in my arms. She kept on smiling even as she slept. I hope she was dreaming of me.

My dream just became reality.
