The Butterfly Effect

Blood Sweat and Tears Theory

Based on Hermann Hesse Demian
Emil Sinclair is the main character.
Max Demian is Sinclair's childhood friend.
“Beatrice”-Frau Eva is Max Demian’s mother.
Pistorius is a organist (piano player) at a local church.

Boy Meets Evil.

Jin meets V.

In Demian, young boy Sinclair who is torn between good and evil meets Beatrice, Pistorius and Demian to become a better person by overcoming himself. The books talks about his determination and the serious anxiety he experienced during this process.

Jin is Demian and V is Sinclair.

In the beginning of the music video, everybody is with someone except for Jin.

Jin stops and stares at a painting.

The painting has men with wings. It looks as if the people with the wings are angels while the drawings at the bottom of the canvas are demons. The man in the middle has black in the tip of its wings.

Jin is looking at Pieter Brueghel The Elder "The Fall of the Rebel Angels".

That man with the black wings is representing Sinclair- V who is a fallen angel because he has committed a sin.

Everyone in BTS except Jin and Suga are representing Sinclair. Jimin represents Sinclair when he was younger(with the slingshot). Jungkook and Rapmon represented Sinclair when he used to be a “good” student(reading a book, and learning). J-hope is representing the future self of Sinclair which is looking back at these memories of his past (using that glasses thing…). V represents Sinclair from when he was in depression(looking pained).

During Rapmon’s rap:

“Peaches and cream.
Sweeter than sweet.
Chocolate cheeks.
And chocolate wings.
But your wings are wings of the devil.
There is bitter next to your sweet.”

Referring back to the painting, Rapmon is talking about how V’s wings are stained from committing his sin. The wings of a devil.

There is bitter next to your sweet. This means that V is covering his sin…(this is kind of hard to explain) Everybody has a side that nobody really knows. V is using his “sweet” side which is hiding his “bitter”-bad side.

The parts after this is just plain...kinky…( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) But we all can’t deny that we didn’t like it.

The scene then shifts over to the boys at a table. All of them are sitting except, you guessed it, Jin.

You can see on each of the members plates, there are apples.

These apples, (if you remember back to my previous theory about Jimin’s Short Film; “Lies”) were an important part in the book. It was mentioned that Sinclair made up a story about stealing some apples, and was blackmailed by an eleven year old thug. Jimin's short film is called "Lie" because he is be the one making up the story of the stolen apples.

When Jin grabs the goblet/cup, he turns around. The scene after the dancing, shows J-hope with a bow and arrow where he hits V and paint splatters. Jin senses that J-hope had shot him.

It is known that shooting an arrow means that the shooter is trying to send a message to the person they are shooting at. V is represented as Sinclair, who is struggling to find himself. J-hope is the future self of Sinclair.

Sinclair’s future self is trying to relay a message to his past self.

Jungkook and Rapmonster represented the transition of when Sinclair turned from “good” to “bad; in the beginning they were reading a book, then they began to mess around and took drugs.

Then in the room above Jungkook’s and Rapmon, Jimin is seen holding his stolen apple and Suga is seen holding a blindfold.

Suga represents Pistorius, a organist (piano player) at a local church.

Pistorius is forever trapped in his past and he can’t move on because he is a romantic and he does not have the strength to leave the past behind for something entirely new.
In the book Sinclair stated:

“And suddenly I realized deeply within me: what Pistorius had been and given to me was precisely what he could not be and give to himself. He had led me along a path that would transcend and leave even him, the leader, behind.”

The blindfold portrays that Pistorius/Suga will never be able to walk forward to the future because he is bounded by his past, and he is hiding in the dark (hidden behind his blindfold).

After the scene, V is seen sitting at the edge of the balcony. He turns around smiling and slides himself off the edge.

Confusing?

Ok, let's look at the painting behind V.

Do you know Greek mythology? (Any PJO’S?)

That painting is called “Fall of Icarus”. (For all those who don't know what this painting is, it's basically a tragic story of a boy and his father. A genius man from ancient Greek was being kept imprisoned by a king. This man was called Daedalus. His son-Iscarus was the only reason Daedalus never escaped from his prison. One day, when Icarus was finally allowed to visit his father, Daedalus created metal wings to help them fly to freedom. Sadly, when they were free, Icarus flew too close to the sun which resulted to the melting of the glue/wax which kept the wings intact. The wings broke and Icarus plummeted to his death into the sea.

Like the meaning behind the painting, V fell off the balcony.

Jungkook is suspended in the air with feathers on the ground around him. When you pause the video and look at the painting behind him it’s another painting about Icarus; “The Lament For Icarus”. The reason behind the wax candle melting onto Jungkook’s finger was because the wax from Icarus’s wing melted off when he flew too close to the sun.

Why?

Let’s continue through the mv.

Jin is holding a balloon where the background is red. Rapmon begins to talk in english:

“He too was a tempter.
He too was a link to the second.
The evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do.”

When someone is a tempter, it means that this person is trying to lead men to sin. The color red in the background seen in dream interpretation represents a warning sign. Letting go of a balloon means that the person is letting go of their childish ways and is giving up/maturing.

In this case, Jin has given up on this evil world.

While watching the music video, you may have asked yourself/thought of: Why was everyone covering Jin’s face?

It is because Jin is Demian.

The reason behind all the paintings in BTS’s concept is because in the book, Sinclair(V) painted a girl named Beatrice.

The girl turned out to be Demian's(Jin’s) mother Frau Eva. When Sinclair(V) finally met Demian's mother, he was very happy finally reaching his goal, because the painting he painted of her was the only light in his life. He fell in love with her.

The scene shifts and we see all the members running towards the door. V slows down and cover Jin's eyes with his hands. When he removes his hand, a statue with black wings stared back at Jin.

Jin kisses this statue. The scene shift revealing V with scars on his back. The scars shaped like wings. The statue was V. Jin was kissing V.

There is actually a reason behind this.

In the book Sinclair left for battle and fought in World War 1. He was wounded and could not leave his bed.

He summons his energy and found Demian by his side one night in the infirmary. Demian tells Sinclair that if he ever feels like he needs help, he does not need to call him. He simply needs to look inside himself and he will see that Demian is within him. Demian gives him a light kiss on the lips—a kiss that he says is from Frau Eva—and vanishes into the night.

I think this may be the reason Jin kissed V. Sinclair had found himself, his search was over, he had been saved.

V has scars on his back because he’s a fallen angel.

Jin walks towards a mirror. Think back to Rapmon’s short film “Reflection”. He is shown surrounded by mirrors where he written a message; “You need to survive”.

Why did Rapmon write this?

Have you ever took note of the flower petals Jin always lay on the floor. This flower is called “Narcissus” and it was based on a man from Greek Mythology who was obsessed with himself. He was attracted to a pool, where he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love with it, not realizing it was merely an image. Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, he lost his will to live. He stared at his reflection until he died, turning into a white flower called “Narcissus".

A statue of a woman, carrying a body that seems to be deformed is seen with a shattered face. The woman represents (Jin)Demian who is son of Frau Eva, saving (V)Sinclair. V is deformed because he is a fallen angel. This statue is actually called “Pieta”(pity) made by Michelangelo Buonarroti, and it's telling a story about Mary hugging his son's dead body.

By saving V, Jin, like the statue has started to shatter.

Though, why is it that Jin seems to always look like he knows something? That he is beginning to realize something important?

Why did he let go of the balloon? Is it perhaps he finally realizes he-
