Reference from Hermann Hesse's Demian and BTS's short Films

• Emil Sinclair is the main character.
• Max Demian is Sinclair's childhood friend.
• “Beatrice”-Frau Eva is Max Demian’s mother.
• Pistorius is a organist (piano player) at a local church.

In Demian, young boy Sinclair who is torn between good and evil meets Beatrice, Pistorius and Demian to become a better person by overcoming himself. The books talks about his determination and the serious anxiety he experienced during this process.

#1 BEGIN

There are some theories saying Jungkook is dead, saying he was hit by the car in I Need You, and he is the angel of death.

In Jungkook's short film, he dreams of a burning piano which is the piano, Suga was playing on. He then hears a car crash, indicating Suga was killed in the accident.

He wakes up from the nightmare and picks up a drawing that looks like Suga. A painting appears.

(Some people say that the painting is V and some people say it’s a combination of Suga and Jungkook. In my theory I am guessing that the portrait is V. )

Jungkook drops the paper he was holding-Suga's drawing- and mouthed "Hyung".

In the book Sinclair says that he thinks a painting is speaking to him.

Sinclair listens closely to the words spoken by an unknown face that is dark and obscure looking. And finally he "senses" the identity of the person in the painting(V).

At the beginning of the book, Sinclair notices a coat of arms, containing a sparrow hawk bird. This bird represents as a messenger who brings messages from the spirit world and the unseen.
From that point, Sinclair was determined to find the meaning of the bird and Abraxas.

In the short film, Jungkook looks up at the sky to find a flow of birds, one in which flew across the red tainted sky.

#2 LIE

In the book, it was mentioned that Sinclair made up a story about stealing some apples to impress a older boy. Although the story was untrue, he was threatened by the boy to become his slave, or he would expose his story to the police. Becoming the boy’s slave, Sinclair went into depression and paranoia.

Jimin's short film is called "Lie" because he may be the one making up the story of the stolen apples.

In front of the camera, Jimin is seen shrugging, possibly being questioned about the stealing, while in the room with two beds, he is seen wrapping his hands around his throat and staggering.

Sinclair had to lie to his family and steal money so that he can pay the bully. It was mentioned in the book that the only place Sinclair truly felt safe was in his house.

In Jimin’s song, he repeatedly sang:
“Caught in a lie
Take me out of his hell
I can’t free myself from this pain
Save the me who’s being punished”

He ultimately wanted to escape from the hell, like Sinclair.

The apple represented Sinclair’s first sin, as he transitioned from the “light” to the “dark”.

#3 STIGMA

V is taken by the police and being questioned.

During this time, he experiences flashbacks of his past.

As he was questioned about his family, he remembers the times before he killed his father. He recalls how his father abused his sister, leaving her with bruises and wounds.

The policeman drinks water from his bottle, reminding V of his father who was alcoholic. He quickly looks away, trying to forget his dark past.

Another scene shows him running along an abandoned road alone. He appears to be scared and crying, often wiping his eyes.

A dog appears. The company of this small animal leaves V relief, but the scene changes quickly as a cage suddenly drops onto V trapping him inside.

“I’ve been hiding it
I tell you something
Just to leave it buried”

The lyrics from “Stigma” talks about how he feels trapped with secrets. It also talks about how he is keeping away things from his sister, and he’s asking her to forgive him.

V finally snaps back into reality, realizing there is one person he could always trust: Rapmon.

He asks the policeman if he could make one last phone call.
