Remember Me?

Au Courant

“Jungkook!” I carefully whispered as he, too, was bombarded by erratic light as he got out of the vehicle, “What do we do? Pose?” I’ve never been to something like this before. All this is just so new.

“Keep walking and smile!” Jungkook waved to the crowd and gestured me to link arms, “Wave a little but don’t pay much attention to them or they will interview you. Follow my lead.” Once I took a hold of his arm, we started to walk down the scarlet carpet that laid out. Hired bodyguards and security officers held back the fans and news reporters pushed their way to the red velvet ropes. Is this what a celebrity has to go through?

“Mr. Jeon! Mr. Jeon!”
“What designer clothes are you wearing tonight?”
“Can you clarify your past scandal with Jeong Ye In?
“What is your relationship with Kim Nayeon?”
“Mr. Jeon! How is the One Jeon Corps. association doing?”
“What do you have to say to your rival, Zinc. company?”
“Can you confirm if you were with Kim Chungha a few weeks ago at a hotel?”
“What are your thoughts on Krystal Jeon spending more money?”
“Is your father, the CEO, your role model?”
“Is it true that he’s not your biological father?”
“Mr. Jeon!”

Despite all of the questions being shouted, Jungkook kept quiet until one last reporter asked, “Who is that woman next to you?”

Jungkook, without hesitation, stated, “My girlfriend!” before officially entering the building. We were greeted by another boy when we entered the elevator.

“Jimin-hyung!” Jungkook said. He’s handsome, just like Jungkook.

“Jungkook! I haven’t seen you in forever!”

“But we met two days ago at the golf course.”

“It’s still a long time!” Jimin sighed, “I just came from the carpark but there were still paparazzi down there.” His eyes moved from Jungkook to me, still unsure of what to do. Eventually, he said, “Hello, miss! May I ask who you might be?”

“She’s my girlfriend.”

“H-Hi! My name is Minji!”

“I think we’ve met before somewhere. I’m Jimin, for your information. You look pretty tonight!”

“Oh, thank you! You look very handsome-”

“So, Jimin!” Jungkook abruptly interrupted, “Where’s your date?”

“Ha! I’m going to find a girl during the party. Wish me luck with the ladies!” *DING* The elevators doors slid open and revealed a corridor that led to two huge doors that were guarded by a couple of men in suits. One spoke up, “names, please.”

“Jeon Jungkook and Park Jimin.”

“Welcome. Buffet on the left.” Once they opened the doors, Jimin walked in by himself.

“I’ll see you both later!” he said before disappearing.

“Be careful,” Jungkook warned, “Try not to converse too much. Some people here are dangerous.”

“Dangerous?”

“Most men came here to pick up girls and most girls came here to pick up sugar daddies.”

“I’ll just stick by you.”

“The best way to make connections is attending these kind of parties. I need to talk business matters with some people so I’ll meet you later. Have fun!”

“Jungkook-” He kissed my hand before he left. Lost and confused, I made my way through the crowd. I spotted some celebrities and tried not to stare. I definitely don’t belong here. Jungkook! Everything is happening too fast. First, I find out who you really are. Second, you gave me a Cinderella transformation. Now, you brought me to a fancy party and left me alone. Great, just great. Why did you bring me here if you were going to abandon me?

I walked up to the buffet and gasped. Okay, forget what I said. The entire left side of the ballroom was lined with tables and tables of different cuisines. Thank you for bringing me here, Jungkook! I took the small porcelain plate and started to pile food onto it. I took a tiny fork and tried one that was labeled “Lobster Frittata”. This is the ducking poop! God bless my soul! Amen!

After making a small mountain of little edibles on my plate, I headed to the ‘DRINKS’ section. Alcohol, champagne, wine, wine, wine, cocktail, sparklers, rum, mojitos. This party has every cookery and drink in the world but there isn’t a single label here that says ‘water’.

“Hey, pretty.” I felt a hand creep up my bare shoulder. I turned around and saw a man. Behind him were two other men with two clingy ladies. He shoved some orange juice- it’s not water but it’s not alcoholic so I might as well take it- in a wine glass into my free hand and said, “If you can’t decide on a drink, you can have this. My name is Jay Park. Are you looking for some fun tonight?” Fun? Duck this dude. I’m here for the food.

“I’m fine. Thank you for the drink.” Jungkook, please rescue me from this awkwardness!

“Are you refusing me?” his eyes widened, “Do you know who I am? I’m the son of the CEO of A.I.W.D-” Son of a CEO? More like son of a beach. Is everyone here a CEO’s heir?

“Minji! There you are!” Taehyung shoved his way between Jay’s shocked friends and patted Jay’s shoulder, grinning at him. Oh poop, it’s that pervert! “Excuse me, but she’s mine.”

“Is that Taehyung? Wow, what a hunk! He looks better in real life.”
“He’s the heir of Zinc., right?”
“Did Jay just try to pick up Kim Taehyung’s girl?”
“He’s so screwed. We should go!”

“T-Taehyung! Tae! Nice s-seeing you, my best amigo! My good pal and friend!” Jay Park said as he took his hand off of me and swiftly reached for a nearby cupcake behind me. “I’m just here for the food. I’ll, um, just be going.” Jay Park and his squad left without hesitation and left me alone with Taehyung, his hands shoved into his jacket pocket.

“I didn’t expect you to be here,” he grinned, leaned in, and whispered in my ear, “I’m glad you came. You look stunning, much better in a dress than in a waiter’s outfit.” He took a cherry tomato from my plate and popped it in his mouth. “This place is mostly for young chaebols like me and women like those two you saw a while ago. How did you come in here?”

“Uh, hello, I-I came here with-”

“Change of plans. You’re mine for tonight.” He grabbed my arm and dragged me around the room. Oh poop, poop, poop. I hope I don’t spill my food and my drink! Eventually, he tugged me to a couple and said, “I found my date!” I didn’t recognize the pair at first but when I did, I felt nervous, my palms sweaty, knees weak like spaghetti.

“You?” the woman said, “I’m sure I’ve seen you somewhere.”

“Psst! Miss,” her partner whispered loudly, “she’s Jungkook’s so-called girlfriend. I’ve heard that she came here with him.” The woman gasped and covered her hanging mouth.

“It’s you!” After looking at me in disgust, she faced Taehyung and sighed. “You can’t steal someone else’s date just because you broke up with yours five minutes ago! That poor girl. I wonder where she went.”

Krystal! Namjoon! Taehyung?” Jimin said as he walked up to the crew. I guess Jimin hasn’t found his ‘date’ yet. Krystal snapped her fingers and pointed at me.

“Oh, I know! Your name is Minki!”

Jimin smiled and whispered in her ear, clearly imitating Namjoon’s voice, “Ms Jeon, I believe her name is Minji.”

“Yes, Minji, right. Tch.”

“Excuse me,” I finally opened my mouth, “but where is Jungkook?”

“O-M-G!” Krystal enunciated, “You can’t talk to him now! He’s busy talking with Mark Lettuceberg.” Jimin giggled and whispered to her again. “No, wait! Mark Suckerbug!”

“I hope he’s okay,” I say out loud, setting my juice on a high top table as I begin picking off the food from my porcelain dish, “Mmh, this is the best meal I’ve ever eaten. Duck me.”

“Gladly. Would you like to come to my place to try eating something else?” Taehyung expressed in a soft voice, “I can make the night even better.”

“Ew, Tae!” Krystal said, disgusted, “You are tots grossing me out! Namjoon, let’s go somewhere else where we can find more civilized people.”

“Can I come with you guys?” Jimin asked.

“If you want to,” Krystal replied. As the trio left, I thought to myself, poop. The incessant pick-up lines had arrived. However, when I thought I was going to be stuck getting hit on by Taehyung for the rest of the night, a shining knight arrived.

“Go away, Taehyung,” Jungkook stated firmly.

He glared at Jungkook before facing me, “See you later, love.” He slithered his way to the dancing group of people in the middle of the large ballroom. Snake. Snake creep.

“Uh,” I was still a bit uncomfortable in this type of environment, “hi.”

“Hey, Minji,” he took my juice and sipped it, “I've been talking to so many people. Have you been enjoying yourself?”

“I don’t think I should even be here-” Nearby, we heard a shriek. Krystal was in distress. One of the waiters spilt wine over her shoes. He kept apologizing, begging her to forgive him.

“Do you know who I am? I’m Krystal Jeon! Let me talk to the person in charge here! This person should be fired!”

“Hyunwoo?” I questioned, recognising my old colleague.

“You know that guy?” Jungkook asked.

“We’re co-workers. I should help him-”

“Leave it to me.” Jungkook confidently said, making his way to Krystal’s ‘crime-scene’. He handed Hyunwoo a hunk of cash from his pocket- who in the world carries hunks of cash?- and faked a laugh, “Yo, Hyunwoo! Nice going! I’m glad my instructions were clear enough for you.”

“A-are you talking to m-me, sir?” Hyunwoo stammered.

“Hold my purse, Namjoon. Jungkook, you told this freak to ruin my shoes?”

“I told him to ruin your outfit,” Jungkook continued to laugh, “but I guessed he missed.” Namjoon snorted but quickly stopped when he was greeted by Krystal’s angry eyes.

“I swear, Jungkook, one day I’ll kick your ass-”

“I brought you some paper towels!” Jimin rushed toward her and started dabbing her heels, soaking up the spilt wine.

“T-thank you, Jimin.”

“Your welcome!” Jimin looked up at her and chuckled.

“Minji?” Hyunwoo popped into my field of vision, “You look beautiful t-tonight! Is that really you-”

“Excuse me,” Jungkook interrupted, “but she’s mine tonight.” After saying goodbye to Hyunwoo, we spent the rest of the night catching up with each other and commenting about the party.

“Hey, what’s the time?” I ask.

Jungkook checked his silver watch. “It’s almost 11 o’clock.”

“Poop. I have to wake up at 5 tomorrow. I think I should go home.”

“I would send you home but I need to stay till this party finishes to take care of some business matters. I could walk you to the taxi stand though.” On our way out of the building, Jungkook had to stop- not once but four times- to greet his colleagues. Instead of walking out to the lobby, he brought me to the carpark and asked one of his personal drivers to drive the both of us a few kilometres away from the Astro building to the nearest taxi stand. I guess this is one of the few things Jungkook has to do to avoid the press.

“After sending her, I’ll walk back to the building. Thank you. You may leave now.” Jungkook commanded his driver. After his driver drove off, he put his hands on my shoulders and give me a peck on the cheek. “Be safe. I hope I’ll see you again.”

“Well, you know where I’ll be. I think.” An orange taxi was driving toward us. “Good night, Jungkook.” I hopped into the taxi and waved him goodbye. He paid the taxi driver in advance and told him to keep me safe.

“Good night, Minji!”

THIRD POV
Once the taxi drove off, Jungkook giggled to himself before his body collapsed and his head hit the curb. *THUNK* Well, that hurts, he thought to himself before he blacked out, I hope Minji is alright.
