Bonding Desire

Chapter 3

I heard his voice calling my name.
“Cathleen its ok. You can come out now.” Only then did I know I was safe. The police had come before they could find me, but I didn’t trust them. Well, I trusted the police, but I wasn’t about to reveal myself until he came. Until I heard his voice. He was the only one who knew I was here. I crawled out of the small space, and was immediately pulled into his arms.
“See? What did I tell you? Everything was going to be ok,” he whispered in my ear. He sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than me that I was fine.
“Jungkook you’re shaking.”
“I’m just angry that anyone would try to do that to you.”
“But you helped me, so I was confident they wouldn’t find me.” He released me from his embrace and made eye contact with me for a second before heading towards the door. He stopped with his back turned and his hand on the doorknob.
“I was doing what any of the guys would’ve done in this situation.” He quickly opened the door and slammed it behind himself. I was left alone in the dark bedroom. For a split second, I thought he cared about me. For a split second, that arrogant idiot was no where to be found. But everything had gone back to normal after that split second. That arrogant idiot had returned and concern in his voice was gone.

I was immediately bombarded with concern as I entered the living room. I scanned the space and saw Jungkook laying on the couch with his eyes closed, listening to music. Typical.
“I’m so sorry this happened Cathleen. We really didn’t think this would happen.”
“I’m fine Seokjin, don’t worry. Besides I don’t think I’ll spend many more days alone in here now that my break is over.” Namjoon grasped my wrist and pulled me towards the couch Jungkook was resting on. Jungkook jumped a mile when the metal handcuffs were snapped onto our wrists.
“Hyung!” I snorted at the look on his face.
“Her day off is over, and I believe that this series of events makes it even more necessary for you two to be together all the time.”
“How do we make this work in public?” I asked.
“Well I hate to break it to you, Jungkook.” The members began to snicker behind us. “But we’re going to have to publicly announce that you are being punished for your behavior in The States by being babysat by our new manager.” Even I let out a small laugh at the misfortune of the maknae.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. There has to be another way!”
“Aww, is Kookie’s pride gonna be hurt?” Taehyung teased. He shot his hyung a glare before sending the same glare at me.
“You’re really ruining my life,” he seethed. Ouch. That stung a bit. “I don’t even wanna look at you.”
“Well, you’re kinda stuck with me,” I said matter of factly as I lifted our handcuffed wrists to prove my point.
“What about at night when we’re in the dorms. I can’t shower with her attached to my wrist.”
“Namjoon these handcuffs are proving to be a bit of a hassle.” He nodded in agreement to Yoongi’s comment.
“If only there was a way to keep them together without some kind of physical connection,” Jimin mused.
“So, like a bond that forced them to be within a certain distance from each other?” Only Taehyung would come up with a crazy idea like that.
“Yeah! That would be perfect.”
“Except for this is reality. That doesn’t exist in reality,” Yoongi interjected. Everyone looked at Namjoon, waiting for his resolution.
“They do say that identical twins feel a bond that connects them to each other.”
“Yeah, but twins aren’t forced to stay within a certain distance from each other, and the bond they feel isn’t as strong as we would need it. Plus, these two could never have a bond like that.”
“Yoongi, you have no faith in the art of imagination.”
“So you want them to imagine there’s a bond between them?”
“No that’s stupid. If we believe in the bond, then it’ll appear.”
“Oh right. And if I believe I can fly I’ll suddenly become Peter Pan.”
“Now that’s just unrealistic.” The six of us blinked at the two going back and forth. Yoongi pinched the bridge of his nose, surrendering to Namjoon, claiming it was taking way too much energy to argue with the brain of the group. Namjoon removed the handcuffs from our wrists, and declared it was time for bed. The smirk on his face left me feeling uneasy, but it was impossible to know what was going on in his head.

I sat in the middle of the bed, staring at the blank wall in front of me. The past two days were just too much to take in. I met BTS in America. I was asked to move to South Korea to become the new personal manager of BTS. I live in the same house as BTS. I was almost kidnapped from said house because I was the new personal manager of BTS. I know it may seem crazy, but I just can’t believe this all happened in the last two days. It’s just unreal. Most girls don’t even have the chance of seeing them in person. It makes no sense. A tentative knock interrupted my thoughts. I climbed of the bed and made my way to the door, opening it a crack to see who was there. My eyes widened slightly at the tall figure outside of my door.
“Can I come in?” I nodded my head in confusion. I went back to my previous spot on the bed, and he pulled the chair out from the desk to sit in.
“I’m sorry about the whole incident earlier.” Where was this going?
“It’s not your fault. You didn’t ask them to come break into the dorm and try to kidnap me.”
“No, but we weren’t careful enough. Starting at the airport. When they targeted you there, we should’ve known to be more precautious.”
“Look, I know you guys feel responsible for it, but it’s fine. Things happen without warning, and all we can do is take it on when it comes.”
“You act like it’s no big deal that you could’ve been taken.”
“Ok, yes, I was scared for my life! Who wouldn’t be in that situation? But it’s over now, and nothing bad happened.”
“What if you’re put in danger again... What will you do if I’m not there to help you?” Why is he acting so concerned?
“I guess I’ll just have to figure it out on my own. I honestly thought that’s what I was gonna have to do today. I didn’t think you were gonna take me seriously and actually help me.”
“How could I not take you serious when you called me with fear completely evident in your voice?”
“Still you didn’t have to help me. You don’t like me.”
“I was just really scared my career would be ruined if they found you.” And there he goes, back to being the rude and arrogant person he was before. I stood up in anger.
“And then what. If they had found me. What would you have done. I could be dead for all you know. All you would care about is your career.” He stiffened as I enunciated the word “dead”.
“Is that all you think I care about?” he asked slowly standing up. He walked towards me until I felt the cold wall on my back. He slapped the wall close to my head, causing me to flinch. His face was so close, the look in his eyes caused shivers to run down my spine. He looked so serious, intimidatingly serious.
“As long as I’m in your life, you’ll never die. No one will lay a hand on you. Got that?” At the last question his voice cracked slightly. He laid his head on my shoulder. I felt the cloth of my shirt dampen slightly. His body was shaking slightly. “I really don’t know what I would’ve done if they had found you. I lied. I didn’t give one shit about my career the whole time you were in danger. The only thing I could think about was that you could have been taken or hurt, and I wasn’t there to protect you.” His quiet sobs grew louder with each sentence. “I was so scared they would take you away, harm you, something.” I stood there in complete shock at the maknae’s confession. “I don’t hate you. I don’t dislike you. I don’t even think you’re annoying. But I didn’t know what to do. All you thought of me was an arrogant, rude idiot with a temper and an attitude. I couldn’t tell you that wasn’t the real me. You thought I despised you, and I couldn’t just come out and say I didn’t.”
“Why?” His head snapped up, his watery eyes meeting mine.
“You wouldn’t have believed me,” he whispered.
“Maybe not right away, but if you were lying, it would be really hard to play the nice guy act without letting your true self show at some point.” He sighed. He knew I was right.
“I’m sorry for being such a jerk.”
“Well I was a pretty big jerk to you sometimes too, so I’m sorry as well. Friends?” I asked holding out my hand and shooting him a cheery smile. He snorted at my cheesy way of making amends, but clasped his hand in mine to make our friendship official. I yawned, signifying that it was really time for bed.
“I’ll let you go to sleep. You seem a bit tired,” he teased. I watched him leave my room before glancing down at the hand he had just shaken. It tingled with warmth at the recent contact, and my cheeks burned in embarrassment. Jeon Jungkook had just shaken my hand, solidifying our new friendship. I quickly fell asleep, completely unprepared for the chaos that would occur tomorrow morning.

Jungkook

The familiar beep of the alarm clock awoke me as I pawed blindly at the machine, feeling for the button to make the relentless noise stop. Finally succeeding, I groggily made my way towards the bathroom, successfully getting to the shower before hyung. He always woke up really late, and never got to the shower before me. I began humming as I turned on the water and began preparing for the shower. My muscles instantly relaxed as the hot water hit my body. I decided to take a bit longer than usual since we didn’t have rehearsal that day. It was our day off. I had just finished rinsing the shampoo out of my hair when my vision began to blur. I called out to Taehyung before I blacked out and collapsed in the shower.

Jin

“Cathleen, would you mind grabbing the newspaper for me?” I asked the little brunette.
“Sure!” She dashed to the front door and headed outside, still clad in her house slippers. Thankfully there was a very tall fence that surrounded the dorms, protected by a separate very heavy duty door that could only be opened from the control panel inside the house. It had broken down a couple weeks ago and our director had never bothered to get someone to fix it. But after the incident yesterday, we had someone come and repair as soon as possible. I began to grow worried thinking it was taking her way too long just to get a newspaper. I finished the omelet I was currently making and turned off the stove before heading to the front door to check on her.
“Cathleen!” I rushed to her fainted form lying on the pavement.
“Hyung!” I looked towards the front door to see Tae in a panic. “It’s Jungkook. He just blacked out while taking a shower.” His eyes shifted to the still form in my arms and widened.
“Seems like we’ve got a bit of a situation in our hands.”
