Till death do we part

Chapter 1: Awakening

My father reluctantly allowed me to enter his hall after I had aimlessly wandered through heaven. He was less than eager to see me but held the same kind smile he had for all his children, even the mortals. I stood before him and slowly dropped to one knee, my head hung low and hair draping to the floor, "Father I seek an audience with you." I said in a loud but respectful tone and gradually stood. His golden eyes glistened against the light that surrounded him and he gave a brief nod, "Speak child." He stated with a calm demeanor. "Father," I began once again with pleading eyed, "I wish to be rid of my exile and join you once more in heaven." I waited patiently for a reply but for several minutes all I received was reluctant glances passed between my father and siblings. After the glances we're exchanged my father gave a light nod before turning back to me, "If you wish to enter heaven once more you must pass a test." "Tell me the task and I shall conquer it." I exclaimed with a vibrant smile clinging to my cheeks. I had never asked my father for forgiveness before but I was glad to see my plea for help hadn't been in vein. "I will give you five years on earth to prove yourself by saving as many human lives as possible. Complete this task to the best of your ability and you may return to heaven. However, you must be wary of human emotions such as love - if you become too attached to a human you may find yourself willing go give up your immortality, in which case you would become human; throwing off the balance of good and evil."
His warning wasn't full of malace but rather insightful. I knew the risks of venturing into the human relm and the regulations in order to do so. Many of my abilities will be unavailable to me and since I have no mortal form I will have to take that of a human already alive, subjecting me to human emotions as well as the possibility of pain and death.
I must also be careful in whomever I come to occupy- if I slip up and die, my soul returns to hell as I am now but the human would die. "Father what if my vessil is killed during that time?" I question, hoping I would get an answer that wouldn't pit anymore stress on my shoulders than my mission already has. "If the human vessil dies, the mission is a failure and you remain where you are."
And my hopes we're crushed.
I knew there was no way to change his mind so I nodded in agreement. "I won't fail."
"I hope not." Compassion spread through his voice, "I have great faith in you. Come," he gestured to me and stood from his crimson throne, "I have a gift for you before you depart."
I steadily walked towards him, my head held high with pride. He gently grabbed my hand, turning my palm up, and placed a cold piece of metal in my hand before closing it. "This will protect your vessil from unnatural death, protect it."
My eyes drifted down to the object in my hand as I slowly opened it, a bright golden ring resting in the palm of my hand. It's edges glistened brighter than the sun, it's beauty captivating. "Now go, my child. Make me proud."
