In The Eye Of The Storm

Chapter 2

The remaining three portions of the competition passed in the blink of an eye and before I knew it the five of us we're being ushered off stage to welcome the next set of performers. My mind was empty, washed away from the blinding lights and frazzled nerves. I didn't do horrible but obviously I wasn't the best audition in the house either. My hopes we're low but I clung to anything I could in hopes that I would find my parents and leave the hell hole I currently resided in. I grabbed my belongings which I had hidden behind one of the many trash cans and ripped the tattered paper from my blouse. Before I left home I had gathered a few dollars I had hidden and stuffed it into my pocket, hoping I wouldn't be gone long enough to need more than two meals. It was still late morning and the sun glistened across the tall skyscrapers, reflecting the busy city. It only took a few hours of walking through the city before my legs grew weak and my knees began to bluckle from exhaustion. I found a restaurant close to the auditorium that was still bustling with auditions. As I opened the door a bell rang above me and I was created with a smile. I ordered a small cup of soup and took a seat in the corner of the restaurant which barely overlooked the auditorium. I slowly ate my food and wondered what all night be happening inside the large building, how late the auditions would continue until and who would win. I ate my food and sludged out of the restaurant, waving goodbye on my way out and huddling against the side of the amphitheater, waiting for the results to be posted. I must've fallen asleep for a few hours before I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I lifted my head to meet the calm expression of a young man maybe two years older than me. He had faded orange hair that wrapped around his jaw line. He stared into my eyes and slowly tilted his head to the side, "Can I help you?" He muttered in a light voice, "The auditions are over." His words surprised me and I quickly wiped the sleep from my eyes before standing, "N-no sorry," I croaked, my cheeks flustered, "I was just waiting for the results." As I spoke he gave me a quick once over before pulling a piece of paper out of his bag and handing it to me before walking away. My eyes drifted down to the crisp paper in my hand and took a deep breath before scanning over the names and audiaudition numbers of the finalists. The numbers we're completely dissarayed so it took me a moment to get through all the names, front and back. I was on the last column of names and a few seconds away from giving up before I saw it in big bold letters: #334 Beak Na Ri. I made it!
I jumped with joy and held the paper tight to my chest, a bright smile clung across my cheeks. I may not have officially "made it" yet but finals was good enough for me.
