Sanghyuk
~~~~~~~”Mommy, hyung is being mean to me again! He refuses to let me play with his toys!”
“I’ve told you five times Sanghyuk, they are not toys! You’re too old to be doing that sort of crap anyways.”
“I am not! See mommy, he’s being mean to me.”
“Will you two knock it off?! Stop arguing! Sanghyuk you do not need to be touching your brother’s stuff. You can play with your own things, but he is right. You will need to stop doing that here soon.”
“But mommy!!!!!!”
“Sanghyuk, stop whining! I’m sick and tired of you whining all the time. Your 13 years old start acting like it!” Sanghyuk listened to his mother intently as she shouted at him, disappointment clear through the way she spoke. Sanghyuk couldn’t understand what he had done wrong, but it seemed everyone was out to get him.
“…fine. I’ll go to my room.” Sanghyuk looked towards the floor as he shuffled his was back. He knew that everyone in his family would see him pouting and think that he was just acting like a baby, but he really was saddened by it. His mom didn’t used to act that way, but the older he gets the angrier his mother gets with his behavior.
Sanghyuk entered his bedroom, lying himself face first onto the bed spread. He didn’t feel in the mood to play anything anymore, as he honestly didn’t know what he was doing wrong.
Sanghyuk couldn’t seem to understand why everyone was so upset with him, because to him he was just acting the way he was supposed to be. A few years ago his mother would have loved the way he was acting, but for some reason it wasn’t okay anymore.
“Stupid brother….it’s all his fault.” Sanghyuk spoke to himself, not caring in the slightest at how rude he was being. There was a part of his mind that wanted to throw a temper tantrum, and another that just wanted to cry but it seemed neither was going to win.
Before one of the sides could finally overcome the other, Sanghyuk heard the sound of his bedroom door creaking open. Reluctantly, Sanghyuk looked upwards to see his mother walking in. Earlier she had appeared scary, but now she looked like she was nice again.
“Sanghyuk-ah, are you okay?” When she spoke now her voice was kind, completely opposite to the way she was earlier. It was sudden, and Sanghyuk was startled by how quickly she had changed.
“…..no…” It took Sanghyuk a moment, but he answered her just the same as he would any other time. He didn’t mention anything about how different she was, as he was scared that if he said anything she would get angry again.
“I’m sorry Sanghyuk. I didn’t mean to yell at you, I was just stressed out. I’m sorry I took it out on you. Do you forgive me?”
“….yeah. I guess mommy.”
“Thank you Sanghyuk. Why don’t we just forget everything I said, okay?” Sanghyuk wasn’t sure if he could forget it. He would have been glad to do so, and he could surely ignore it however something told him that it was always going to be in the back of Sanghyuk’s mind. Of course, if she had said she was sorry than that must mean she didn’t mean it, right? There’s no point in remembering something she hadn’t meant.
“Okay.”
“Okay. Why don’t we get a smile on that face? Do you want mommy to play with you?” Sanghyuk sat up, his mind readjusting itself. It only took him a moment before he decided that doing that would be more fun that just lying on top of his bed.
“Yes please.”
“Come down then! We’ll sit on the floor right here and play for as long as you want. Alright?”
“Okay!” Sanghyuk rapidly forgot his feelings of being sad, his mind now entirely focused on other things. Sanghyuk scrambled up from the bed without a moment of hesitation, his mother and he settling themselves on to the floor comfortably.
Smiles and giggles filled the room, as Sanghyuk and his mother continued that for hours. His mom made him laugh sometimes, as she was kind of awkward to play with. His mother didn’t play right, and she always tried to make sense of everything. Still Sanghyuk enjoyed himself, simply laughing and continuing with what he was doing.
“Sanghyuk, how is that a building? You just stacked two Legos on top of each other.”
“It just it mommy! Use your imagination.”
“I think your imagination is much larger than mine. Fine, this little guy is coming to destroy your building.”
“No mommy, that isn’t a guy! He’s a robot, he can’t move until you charge his batteries.”
“Batteries? Well how do I do that? He clearly looks like a construction worker.”
“Well he’s not. You need to build something and charge him.” Sanghyuk smiled, his joy increasing as he explained the game to his mom. He supposed she was really fun to play with, even if she didn’t know how to do it.
This continued for hours and hours of time, and Sanghyuk never lost one ounce of energy. He could have kept going forever, that was until his brother walked in and interrupted them.
“Mother, what have you been doing? Your boss is downstairs, you were supposed to be ready by now!”
“Crap. I have to go Sanghyuk-ah, we’ll play again later. Okay?” Sanghyuk nodded, his expression growing extremely dim.
“….okay.”
“Love you Sanghyuk!” She moved the Legos to the side, kissing her son on the forehead before rushing out the door. His brother didn’t pay even a little bit of attention to him, and only went back to his room.
“Stupid brother….”~~~~~~~
Sanghyuk leaned against the front wall of the restroom, his hands fiddling with various parts of his outfit as he impatiently waited. He was beyond bored at this point, and he just wanted the person to get there so that he could go play games already. In the back of his mind, he considered just doing it anyway. His mom wasn’t here so it wasn’t like she would know, but just for her he decided to stay and wait, recalling the events of just a few minutes ago as he did.
“Han Sanghyuk, you come here right this instant and sit down!” His mother’s voice seemed to carry across miles as she shouted for her son, whom was excitedly running around. It had been ages since he had been somewhere that looked this exciting, but his mother wasn’t letting him have any fun.
“Mom!!! Let’s go play already! They have all sorts of games!”
“Sanghyuk I’m not in the mood to satisfy you right now. Sit down and let me collect my head!”
“Mooommm!!!”
“NOW SANGHYUK!” Sanghyuk flinched, rapidly doing as she said and making himself comfortable on a bench that was nearby. He didn’t understand why she was so mad at him, he only wanted to go play a little bit.
“Finally! Sit there quietly and let me think…” Sanghyuk did as he was told, listening very closely to the words that she whispered to herself.
“Aish, why did I bring him here? I should have known he was going to be like this……I can’t deal with this all day.” Sanghyuk frowned, already knowing what was going to happen now. His mother was clearly making plans to ditch him.
“Mom, I’m sorry. Alright? I’ll be quiet so can we just go play one game?”
“Does that sound like quiet Sanghyuk?! Stay right here, mom is going to go talk to someone.” Sanghyuk never spoke a word as he watched his mother storm off, walking the direction of some short guy wearing all black.
‘How silly. He’s wearing black in the summer time.’
Sanghyuk allowed random thoughts to pop through his head, entirely ignoring the fact that his mother was clearly not happy with him. He simply sat on the bench until she came stomping her way back over, sighing a hefty breath as she did so.
“Sanghyuk-ah?”
“Yes.” Sanghyuk looked at his mother with a sweet expression, a small smile still painted on his face. He was excited once again, since his mother suddenly didn’t seem as scary or mean anymore.
“Mom has to leave, but there’s a man that’s going to come play with you for the day. Alright?”
“….who is he?” Just as Sanghyuk had thought, she was ditching him.
“He’s….just a guy. He’s going to come be your friend for the day. You and him can play games together and he’ll take you to see everything here. Okay?”
“…okay.” Sanghyuk supposed that playing with someone else was alright, however he couldn’t shake the disappointment that he felt. He had really hoped that his mother would play with him for the day.
“Good boy. Mom will be back to come get you just before the festival ends. By good for him, and don’t whine.”
“Okay.”
“Alright? Wait by those doors right there and he’ll be here really fast. Have fun, okay? Goodbye Sanghyukkie! I love you!”
“I love you too mom.” Just as Sanghyuk spoke the words his mother had turned around and was gone nearly as quickly as he had said them. Sanghyuk stood, doing as he was told and waiting.
It had now been around ten minutes, and still no one had arrived. Sanghyuk was bored out of his mind, and he swore that if someone didn’t arrive soon he would just start playing with the rocks.
Thankfully, just as Sanghyuk had actually considered doing that, someone started to walk up to him. Looking up at him, Sanghyuk felt an off feeling rise in his chest. It wasn’t that he looked mean or anything, there was just something odd.
From what Sanghyuk could see, this man was extremely good looking. His hair was very dark, much darker than his hyung or mothers hair, and the way it was set looked very casual. His outfit as well, seemed casual and simple but put together. Sanghyuk couldn’t see much of his face, as there was a thick black mask covering his nose and mouth, however the guy had very pretty eyes. The other thing Sanghyuk noticed was that his skin was very pale, paler than anyone Sanghyuk had ever seen before. On one hand it made him look like he was sick, but on the other it worked with the dark hair.
“Hello, you must be Han Sanghyuk.”
“That’s my name.” Sanghyuk replied in the first way that popped to his head.
““Yes…uhh…my name is Lee Hongbin. I’m the person that your mother asked for.” With those words, Sanghyuk instantly grew excited. Finally! The person was there and Sanghyuk could finally go play games now!
“Oh, you’re him! Oooaaahhhh, mom didn’t slack off this time. If you’re him then you’re my buddy for the day, follow me!” Sanghyuk couldn’t contain his excitement, grabbing the others arm and dragging him behind him. Hongbin wasn’t necessarily short, however he was lighter than Sanghyuk had expected.
“Woah, a little excited there! How about we speed walk, if we run the whole way we’ll be tired before we even get there.”
“Ahh, oops. Sorry.” Sanghyuk frowned a little, letting Hongbin’s hand go and slowing down. He supposed Hongbin was right, no matter how eager Sanghyuk was.
“It’s okay, there’s no problem. It’s nice to meet you Sanghyuk.”
“…you too.” Sanghyuk couldn’t help but take a moment, very few people ever said that to him.
“Yes, ahh. This place is big, isn’t it? How about we get to know each other while we walk. I ask you a question and you ask me a question, okay?” Once again, this was new territory for Sanghyuk. Never before had someone suggested they play a game like this, but it sounded interesting.
“Okay!”
“Good, I’ll go first. How old are you?”
“19.”
“Oh, I’m 22. I’m your hyung.”
“Hyung? Yeah…yes you are. Can I call you that?!” With the thought of that being someone else’s name too, Sanghyuk started to bounce a little bit. He had only ever called his brother hyung, and his brother was always mean to him. Hongbin seemed nice, so Sanghyuk liked the idea.
“Of course you can.” Sanghyuk shrieked a little, excitedly jumping. Hongbin never acted like he was strange, but instead Sanghyuk heard him laugh underneath the fabric covering half his face. “Okay, okay. It’s your turn.”
“ㅋㅋㅋ (ke ke ke) This game is fun. Why are you wearing a mask?” Sanghyuk asked, not even thinking to hesitate. He was curious and to be honest, it made Hongbin a little hard to understand sometimes.
“It’s so I don’t get sick.”
“Sick?” Sanghyuk didn’t get it. ‘Why would someone get sick from breathing air?’
“Yeah, I get sick very easily. An organ in my body doesn’t work right, and so it’s very easy for me to get ill. This mask keeps me from getting anyone else’s germs.”
“Oh, so it’s like a condition, right?”
“Ehh not exactly, but I suppose so. I have one of those too.”
“Really?!?!” Sanghyuk couldn’t help but shout again, once again starting to jump and down.
“Yes. Why are you so excited about that?” Hongbin giggled, and Sanghyuk noticed something. Even if he couldn’t see Hongbin’s smile, Hongbin tended to smile with his eyes. It made him glad as he replied, since he could now always tell if Hongbin was mad at him or not.
“I have a condition too. It’s called……it’s called…..” Sanghyuk started to hit his head lightly, not able to recall the name.
“Take your time.”
“Immature Personality Something or Other, my mom says it makes me act childish when I’m not supposed too.”
“Ahh, well let’s make a deal then. Shall we?”
“What kind of deal?”
“Since we both act weirdly, you watch out for me and I watch out for you. Okay?”
“Okay!” Sanghyuk smiled, not able to express how happy he was. He decided he really liked Hongbin. No one else had treated him this kindly before, at least not all the time.
“Good, the games are here.”
“Oooooo, hyung let’s go play that one!” Sanghyuk once again grabbed Hongbin’s arm, dragging him towards a strength measuring game.
“You or me first?”
“You. I want to see your score so I can kick your butt!”
“You’re on.”
“I’ve told you five times Sanghyuk, they are not toys! You’re too old to be doing that sort of crap anyways.”
“I am not! See mommy, he’s being mean to me.”
