Could It Be Love?

Resignation Letters & Blood

Aera
Jolting awake to the persistent ringing of an alarm, I sit up and look around. Minah was still fast asleep, her arm draped over her eyes as if she could block the sunlight streaming through her window. “Minah, can I take a shower?” I ask. She makes a sound of consent and I take a quick shower, borrowing underwear and a uniform from her. It was awkward, but I’d forgotten everything when I left the house. Going over to her bed, I shake her. “Minah, you have to get up. We’ll be late for school.” She groans and rolls over, falling onto the floor and crawling to the bathroom, standing up when she reaches the door. “Go to school first, I’ll see you there.” Shrugging, I grab my bag and stuff the plastic bag that held my dress and underwear into it. Slipping on my sneakers, I catch the bus to school and as soon as I step into the gates, my phone buzzes. Checking it, I can feel a headache coming on. I didn’t know when I was going to end this, but it needed to be before attachments are formed.

Three Weeks Later
Taking a deep breath, I watch boss stare at the resignation letter in front of him. I could practically see steam coming from his ears. “How long has it been since you started?” “A year.” “And what’s your spot in sales?” I gulp. “In the top five.” “And you want to quit? Did you think it was that easy?” I shake my head. He stands up and my head snaps to the side, my cheek stinging from the slap. “You’ll regret quitting, but you won’t be accepted back. Boys, take her to the back and give her a number nine punishment. Leave her on the street when you’re done.” The two men behind me grab my arms and drag me out of the building to the asphalt lot. Another group of men were waiting expectantly and I close my eyes, letting them worry about who was going to do what. By the end of it, I’m going to be stained with blood anyway.

Limping through the front gate, I don’t bother trying to go through the front door. Instead, I drop to the ground in front of the only tree in the yard. Leaning back against it, I feel blood trickle down my hairline, down my face. My arm seemed to be dislocated, my ankle sprained. My ribs were bruised and gashes covered my body. A small laugh rattles out from my throat. I knew it’d happen sometime, but I never really expected them to go all out. The sound of a window being opened draws my attention and I look up as Jungkook leans out of my room. His eyes are dark, but he seemed to be studying me. My eyes go to the sky, the clouds that covered the moon were moving. Moonlight shines down and the first thing it catches are my legs splayed out and stained. I don’t look back at him for a reaction. I knew it’d happen and if he blamed himself, it was for a stupid reason. Within a minute, he’s standing in front of me, panting from running down here. “Aera, why, what,” He can’t form sentences as he crouches down. I can’t help the maniacal laugh that escapes my mouth. It was finally done. It was over with. Even though I hurt in places that I never thought I’d hurt, I was free. “Did you quit?” Jungkook finally manages to ask, pulling off his shirt and starting to dab at the blood that covered my legs. “Yeah. They didn’t take it that well.” I cough. “Come here, I’m taking you to the hospital.” Jungkook sighs and gets up, coming over and scooping me up. He didn’t bother to take the bus and I ended up on his back as he walked. “Tell me if I’m hurting you.” Even if he was, I didn’t bother to tell him. Getting to the hospital, I tell Jungkook to set me down at he does. Going to the nurse’s station in the emergency room, I ask her for Jang Boram. Mom appears and as soon as she catches sight of me, she understands. I’d told her at the beginning of my job what would happen if I quit, and even though she hated it, it was going to happen sooner or later. She leads me and Jungkook to a curtained off section of the emergency room and tells me to take off my shirt and pants. I do and mom glances over at Jungkook before she understands that seeing me without clothes on was something that he’d seen before. I see the tears glimmer in her eyes when she appraises the damage that had been done to my body. “Honey, I’ll ask the doctor to look at you.” Mom says before rushing out, but I could already tell she just wanted to cry in peace. “So I suppose quitting wasn’t for me? Since you didn’t want me to be there?” Jungkook asks, sitting down at the end of the bed. “Only the smallest fraction went to you. The rest of it, was for myself. I couldn’t let you get hurt for something that I’d decided on. It needed to be me, and me alone, to break free from that.” “You should have just let me get beat up.” Jungkook mutters.

@Vyan
THANK YOU, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy because being told that I'm a great writer by someone that doesn't know me personally is the best feeling in the world. I'll update in a few minutes probably. Thank you for your support ^~^

Can't wait for the next update! This surely feels like I'm reading a scene from a movie, but really, you're such a great writer.
