Chapter 8: Broken Heart
D.O. POV
I followed Kai out to see what he was up to. The whole day, he was fidgeting and looking around as if someone was watching him. And when I asked him where he was going, he started stuttering and acting weirdly. I knew right away, he was up to no good.
When he started running, I silently swore to myself, and muttered about how I hate running, and ran after him. His long legs gave him a much greater advantage, and within seconds he was almost out of sight. I had to sprint the whole way to catch up to him. And when he was finally in view, he was drinking coffee. I grabbed a newspaper and sat near his table.
“Kai-oppa.” My ears caught the voice of a familiar girl.
I looked up and saw Krystal. I smiled. Why was he being so secretive about meeting his girlfriend? It wasn’t like I was going to stop him.
Kai’s POV
What is Krystal doing here? I’m suppose to meet the sasaeng fan.
I offered her a smile, and motioned her to the seat in front of me.
Her gorgeous brown hair was swept to one side. Her white blouse and blue jeans reflected her skinny body. Her eyelids shimmered in the light, and pink lip gloss marked her lips.
I smiled brightly at her. She’s so beautiful.
“What are you doing here?”
She bit her lip before answering. “I came here to see you, Jongin.”
Jongin? No oppa? I smirked. “What happened to calling me oppa?”
She looked away, her eyes unable to meet mine.
Huh?
“I’m breaking up with you.” She replied.
What?
“What do you mean? You’re breaking up with me?” I asked, spilling my coffee onto the floor.
It’s true we haven’t dated for that long, but I still love her. Didn’t she feel the same way about me? What happened? Did I do something wrong?
It was as if time stopped.
“I’m sorry,” She said and left without an explanation.
Did I just get dumped?
D.O. POV
I inched forward, determined to eavesdrop on their conversation.
“I’m breaking up with you.” My eyes widened in shock.
What? Did something happen between these two?
I watched as Kai say something to her, before she bowed and muttered something I couldn’t hear. She scurried away quickly, leaving Kai alone.
His face darkened, shadows looming over him. His mouth twitched, and his hands clenched into tight fists.
I swallowed hard.
Kai stood up abruptly, the chair crashing loudly onto the floor with a THUD.
He looked up, making eye contact with me. His eyes widened, face burning with shame. I tried to speak but my mouth wouldn’t listen. He turned around quickly and bolted away.
“K-kai.” I said finally.
I chased after him, but he was already out of my sight.
Out of my reach.
To a place, I could not find.
Kai’s POV
I ran, and ran, unaware of where I was actually running to.
Rain began falling down to my face, as I gazed up at the gloomy, unforgiving gray sky. I reached up to my face, realizing the ‘rain’ was actually my own tears.
I turned to a alleyway on my right, whimpering into my mask. I yanked it off, as actual rain began pouring down.
The rain…..at least I’m not crying alone now.
I stared into the distance, the sound of the gentle rain falling onto the pavement. “Don’t walk away, without telling me why.”
I loved you
I cared
But then,
You left me.
Making me ask why?
An umbrella appeared over my head, shielding the rain from me.
Author’s POV
“Are you okay?” Kyungsoo asked, his eyebrows knitting in concern.
Kai’s eyes lowered slowly onto Kyungsoo's large round eyes.
There was so much pain behind the question ‘Are you okay?’,
That for a moment, Kyungsoo noticed the change in Kai’s face.
That for a moment he saw his mask hiding his pain,
Fade away.
D.O’s POV
“I wonder, if being alive really matters.” Kai’s tears dripped down his jawline. “When being dead seems a lot easier.”
I looked at him sadly.
“I loved her, Hyung. I still love her, so, so much.” He sobbed, lowering his head so that it rested onto my shoulder.
I stroked his soft blond hair, as he whimpered quietly onto my shoulder.
Monster… the name of our new song.
We’re all slowly turning ourselves into unrecognizable monsters.
Emerging into beasts.
Letting the wolf within us,
Out.
