When We Are Apart [BTS Love Story]

Chapter 7

Jaehwa's POV

I was woken up rather violently, with yelling in my ear and a hand shaking my shoulders roughly. With a jolt, I knocked my head up and hit something sharp and hard.

"Aish!" I uttered before staring up into the unpleased face of my aunt.

"Jaehwa, what are you doing here?" Her voice was almost a growl. "Don't you have school?"

I blinked and glanced casually at my phone for the time. "Sch-"

I cursed aloud and fell victim to a glare from my aunt. She heaved a sigh and helped me clear the table. I packed the last of my books and turned to face her just as she took hold of Eunbi's photo album. There was a moment of silence where we exchanged a series of looks between the photo book and each other.

My heart stopped as I waited for her reaction.

"You said, you're not a fan." I could hear the small trimmers of anger in her voice.

I waved my hand in alarm. "I'm not! That's Eunbi's, my friend's, not mine!"

She raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. "You got their signature for your friend? That's what you are here for? To get signatures?"

I bit my lip as her voice rose, not knowing what to say.

"Lee Jaehwa, if this is what you meant by working here, you should start packing." She leaned in closer and shook the book in my face. "I will not tolerate this kind of behaviour!"

"Sorry." I muttered. It was the only thing that seemed appropriate.

My aunt heaved a sigh then pressed the book to my chest, pushing me back a few steps. "Go, go to school."

I bowed apologetically then headed out the door, feeling the burning sensation of her stare on my back. Once out of the cafeteria, I let out a long sigh. With not a second to lose, I ran off to the old short cut for school.

"Jae!" I was pulled back before I could even enter class.

With my bags fumbling around, I spun around in a daze to face the excited Eunbi. She held her hand out to me expectantly and I rolled my eyes.

"Here." I grumbled and tossed her the photo book. She scowled as she caught it then smiled as she saw the signatures on the page.

"So you actually met V?" She asked with a pout. "Actually?"

I shrugged, suddenly feeling bitter again. "It was just, wonderful. Unexpectedly familiar."

She blinked. "What? Never mind that, what did you think of him?"

I thought about it. "He was alright I guess."

She waited for more.

"What am I supposed to think?" I said feeling annoyed.

Eunbi let out a loud scoff and leaned closer to me. "What did you think of him as a guy!"

I winced at her frustrated tone then built up the courage to yell back. "I only got his signature, how am I supposed to know how he's like just from that?"

That was a lie.

Eunbi furrowed her brows and looked at me with a strange expression. "What is wrong with you? Didn't you feel anything when you talked to him? It's V we're talking about, my ultimate bias!"

"Yeah, I did feel something." I frowned and crossed my arms. Anger, annoyance, confusion, disbelief-

Worry.

I hadn't thought much about it before but, how strange was it for Taehyung to ask me for advice about V's problems.

'V's
a close friend of mine.' Was along the lines of what he had said the first time we met.

Friends that fought.

Why was he so keen on keeping his identity a secret? Did he not like to be know as V, or does he not want to be V at all?

As Eunbi went on and on about V, I managed to pull her into class. We sat down at the back, two rows behind Richard who winked as we passed. I pulled out my laptop immediately and tried to pay attention, but without much success.

"I still can't believe that Richard knows Rap Monster." She muttered into her book. "How do you think they know each other?"

I shrugged her off.

"Do you talk to Rap Monster at work? Does he recognize you?"

I nodded.

"Lucky. Did you get to meet the other members?"

I paused then nodded again.

She clawed at my shoulders excitedly. "Then tell me! Who is your favourite member?"

I furrowed my brows, totally missing what the professor had just said.

"Jungkook," she started naming them off. "Jin, Jimin, J hope, Sug-"

I may have blushed.

"Suga?" She exclaimed, receiving the glares of all the students around us. "Yoongi is such a tease though."

"Eunbi, can we just pay attention to the lesson?" I whispered angrily.

She puckered her lips. "Taehyung is better than Yoongi."

I glared at her and she ducked her head into her notebook with a giggle.

No, he is not. Suga is definitely better than both V and Taehyung.

I ignored Eunbi for the rest of the class despite her constant efforts to make me talk about her bias. In the end, I barely got anything the professor was talking about. I made a face at her after our classes then met up with Richard at the back of the school. After a brief talk about class, I said my good byes to go to work.

"Lucky," Eunbi muttered. "Be extra nice to V, Jae!"

I rolled my eyes and got on the bus towards the office.

To my surprise, Suga was standing at the entrance. He was talking hurriedly on the phone with a dark expression. I felt my heart race as our eyes locked for a brief moment then pushed past him to enter the office.

Stupid Eunbi, now you're just making it awkward.

His hand stopped me by the arm.

"Yeah, alright, as long as it's done, I'm prepared for the consequences." He said with a smile towards me.

I flushed and stared at the hand on my arm. Why is he still grabbing onto me?

"Jae you're early for work," he said stuffing his phone in his pocket. "Looking for that early pay are you?"

I blushed harder, suddenly feeling extremely hot inside the cold building. "N-no."

He chuckled and let go of his hand on my arm. I wished he hadn't.

"Well, I have to go to the office too, I'll walk you."

I nodded feeling my heart lighten with delight. I walked beside him, feeling his shoulder brush against mine. Once in a while, I would sneak a glance at him, only to be caught and forced to look away.

"Do you have something you wanted to say?" He said lazily.

"Not really." I replied in the same tone.

He chuckled and pushed me lightly on the shoulder. "Then why the embarrassed glances?"

"What do you mean?" I turned to him and widened my eyes.

He laughed aloud, his voice echoing down the hall. A smile crept up my lips as I watched the corners of his eyes crinkle.

Cute.

"You're staring." He said between laughter, then in an instant, his face fell into a flat expression. "What is it?"

I turned away and realised that we were at the office. "N-nothing."

Suga tried to look at my eyes but I wouldn't let him. My face was red and burning, something I did not want him to see.

The minute we entered the office, Hobeom gave Suga an earful.

"Where have you been? All the members have been here ten minutes ago!" He bellowed, silencing the whole room.

"Sorry." He said simply and waddled off with one last glance at me.

I watched him join the others and wished I hadn't. Jungkook, Taehyung and J hope jumped up and down, waving their hands wildly in the air. As if it couldn't have gotten any worse, the three of them proceeded in yelling my name out in the middle of the quiet office.

I pressed my forefinger on my lips hastily, feeling the judgemental stares of the workers. Hobeom managed to settle them down before it got too out of hand and led then out of the room with a quick wave of goodbye. I smiled as Suga's grinning eyes matched mine in the briefest of seconds before the door closed behind them.

Don't
work too hard Suga!

"Jae," the cold voice of my aunt sent shivers down my spine. "It's so good that you're here because I was just about to call you."

I turned around slowly, suddenly feeling the hostile stare of a very angry aunt.

"Did you need me?" I asked quietly, fixing my eyes on the frills of her shirt.

There was silence for what felt like forever before I realised the small huddle of people around the two of us. All of the workers in the office had came over to see what was going on making it painfully obvious that I was definitely not getting a raise.

Without warning, a loud slap echoed through the office from right before my feet. I jumped, darting my eyes to the stash of papers that were slammed onto the floor.

The loud oohs of the workers did not help with my state of mind. My heart sank deeper than the depth of hell as my eyes recognized the contents of the photos.

Oh no.

On the floor before me lay a dozen photos of the familiar cafeteria I studied at. At the centre of the photo was his dirty blonde hair against my brown. They were photos of when Taehyung had his forehead against mine and it looked awfully like we were-

Kissing.

"I'll give you one chance to explain yourself before you get fired."
