When We Are Apart [BTS Love Story]

Chapter 5

Taehyung’s POV

“Taetae,” Jimin pushed me hard on my shoulder almost knocking me over.

“Ah, what?” I chuckled as the other members directed their attention to me.

“You’re zoning out again.” He pushed on my forehead. “What’s on your mind?”

I blinked and spread my mouth into a large smile. “Lunch.”

Rap Monster nudged me in the head. “All you think about is food.”

I nodded my head. As the other members continued to chatter with one another, my eyes wandered to Jungkook who sat apart from everyone else. I watched as he tapped away on his phone with a satisfied grin on his face. Had he always smiled like that?

Beside me, Jimin followed my eye. “Are you in love with him?”

“Yah! What are you saying?” I shoved him away and he laughed. With one last look at me, Jimin returned to his conversation with Jin, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

When we arrived at the location, I stayed behind to talk to Jungkook. He didn’t look up as I approached him, instead, he looked at the van that was pulling up behind us.

“Hey, Jungko-” I called out, but it was already too late. He dodged my words and moved to welcome the new van, the van that Jaehwa was in.

I cursed under my breath as I saw her face peeked out of the door and spun on my heels. I struggled to put on my face mask and shades as I rushed into the building.

From the corners of my eyes, I saw Jungkook approach her with a bright smile. She tried to block his hand as it came down and ruffled her hair.

I frowned, suddenly having the urge to pull her away and introduce myself as V.

Since when were they so close?

-----
Jungkook’s POV

“Aish, stop it.” Jaehwa grabbed my wrist and pushed it away angrily. “What’s your deal anyways, is it not enough for me to work for you? You have to annoy me too?”

She waved her phone in my face, her shining brown eyes were firm on mine. “And, stop texting me.”

I could only smile as I watched her storm pass me, her hair brushing my cheeks as she passed.

I jogged slightly to keep up with her. “Someone’s grumpy.”

“I’m not.” Her ears turned red. “Y-you’re just annoying that’s all.”

“Aw come on, most girls would swoon if-”

“Well,” She spun on me the minute we walked into the building. “Sorry I don’t match up with your understanding of what a girl should be like.”

I chuckled and leaned on her shoulder. “Are you sure you’re a girl?”

She blinked at me and pushed me away in annoyance. “Why out of all the members, do I have to work with you?”

I laughed and placed my hands on her shoulders, leading her to the backroom where I was supposed to get ready. She struggled out of my grip at the very last second and pushed me down on the seat. With a scowl, she spun around and headed out the door.

“Hey hold on,” I called out to her, feeling particularly playful today. “Grab me a cup of coffee won’t you? Triple sugar please!”

Jaehwa’s hands clenched into a fist beside her and I had to hold back a chuckle. She took one last long glare at me before heading out the door with a small cry of frustration.

“Yah, you don’t even drink coffee,” J-hope pushed me on the shoulder.

I grinned and looked at my hand as the hair stylist came over to me. “I can now.”

“Huh, does our maknae have a crush?” He chuckled and reached for my phone. “Was that who you were texting before?”

Unfortunately, I didn’t move my hand fast enough to stop him. With a mischievous grin, he blocked my outstretched hand and unlocked my phone with a flick of his finger.

“Hyung!” I whined and shook my hand in front of his face.

“Oh, oh, what is this? You texted her so much!” He pulled my phone closer to his face. “This is your Kookie? Woah Jungkook, you really are putting yourself out there. How come you never let us call you Kookie?”

I flushed and hid my face with the back of my hand.

“Hyung!” I called out in frustration. “Stop it!”

He laughed and tossed the phone back to me. “How cute.”

I frowned and glared at him through the reflection in the mirror. Just because I like teasing her, does not mean I like her.

When I finished getting my hair and makeup done, I sat aside waiting for the other members. I eyed the door expectantly, hoping that Jaehwa would come in with my coffee at any time now. She sure is taking her time with that drink.

Eventually, when it was almost time to go out and meet the fans, Jaehwa came back. To my disappointment, there was no sign of the drink I asked for. I stood up form my seat and made my way to her as she glanced hesitantly around the room then behind her. Her cheeks, which were a shade of light pink, flushed darker as a figure emerged from behind her. It placed a hand on her head once then waddled into the room with a cheerful smile.

Suga?

-----
Jaehwa’s POV

I was in a foul mood when I walked into the nearby café with my wallet in my hand. Not only did he have to annoy me, but I have to buy him coffee too?

I ordered quickly and stood at the waiting area with what felt like a dozen people, all waiting for their order Impatient, I pulled out my phone and stared at the time. The fan meeting is starting soon. I should be working, not making coffee runs!

As I grabbed the coffee and headed out the door, my phone pinged with a text.

“Aish!” I cried out and hurried back towards the room, checking my phone as I went.

Was it another one from Jungkook? I thought I told him to stop texting me!

“Yah!”

I let out a gasp as I felt the hot coffee burn over my hand and onto the white shirt of the person before me.

“I’m sorry!” I bow my head immediately and stuffed my phone in my pocket in alarm. I tried to wipe off the stain with my hand but it was impossible.

“Aish,” He groaned and grabbed my hand from wiping any more. “It’s fine, I’ll just go and get changed again.”

I looked up to stare into the pale face of Suga. His makeup was all done and his grey hair was styled to perfection over his light brow line.

“Oh!” His eyes widened as we stared at each other. “It’s you!”

I bowed my head. “Hello.”

He chuckled at me. “Causing trouble aren’t you.”

I flushed and looked guiltily at the large coffee stain on his shirt. “Sorry.”

He shook his head. “No, it’s alright, but you have to explain it to the stylist.”

I bit my lip and followed him down the hall. He laughed out loud as we turned the corner and crossed his arms over his chest.

“Don’t look so down, you’ll make me feel bad.” He said with a chuckle. “Were you waiting for a call?”

I looked at him in surprise. “P-pardon me?”

He pointed at the phone sticking out of my pocket. “You were on your phone, that’s why you walked into me.”

“It’s Jungkook, he keeps-” I caught myself before I said anything unnecessary and bowed my head. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have-”

He threw back his head and laughed at me. “No, it’s alright. Our maknae is causing trouble for you isn’t he. You must’ve been who he was texting on the way here.”

I nodded not daring to look him in the eye.

“He likes causing trouble for others, don’t let him get to you.” He said and led me into the fitting room. The stylists there gasped as they saw the large stain on Suga’s shirt. The walked over to us with a stern finger and I moved to explain myself.

“I spilled my coffee.” Suga said before I could even open my mouth. I watched him bow politely to the stylists, motioning for me to back up with a flick of his finger.

“Yoongi, this is unlike you.” One of the stylists said and turned to me. “Who are you?”

“I’m-”

“She’s working for Jungkook today.” Suga said quickly. “Can I get a new shirt?”

The stylist raised an eyebrow at me but didn’t question it any further. She returned later with a new shirt and motioned Suga into the change room.

“Wait here for me alright?” Suga glanced at me before he disappeared into the room.

I stood there with the other two stylists as I waited. They looked at me with narrowed eyes, examining me up and down. I stiffened in my place as their eyes rested on my chest. Were they measuring me up?

My phone pinged in my pocket and I jumped. They looked at me expectantly, but I didn’t bother to check it. It was probably just Jungkook and his need for attention.

“Did you see Yoongi change earlier?” The stylists started to whisper to each other.

“Yeah, when I was handing him his clothes.”

They giggled and I stared hard at my feet, feeling the colour rise in my cheeks. Are they being serious right now?

“All of the members have such nice bodies don’t you think?” They continued.

“Yeah, that’s why I love my job.”

“Though if the company ever finds out that we’re fans, we’ll be fired for sure.”

Of course, that’s what my aunt warned me about, but clearly, she’s been warning the wrong person.

“Jaehwa.”

I jumped and looked at the change room where Suga had called me from. I caught a glimpse of the stylists glaring at me then moved closer to the door to hear Suga better.

“What is it?” I muttered, feeling their stares burn into the back of my head.

The door creaked open and he poked his head out. Although the door was covering much of his nude upper body, I could still see his pale chest bright and clear. I let out a surprised yelp and backed a few steps back, covering my eyes and apologizing profusely. He chuckled and pulled me closer by the wrist.

“They gave me the wrong size.” He said with a frown. “Can you give this back to them and get me the right size?”

Before I could reply, a hand slammed down on the door and opened it. It took me 3 full seconds to realise that Suga was half naked before I spun around to face away from him.

“What’s the problem Suga?” The stylist who opened the door asked. I could hear a slight amusement in her voice.

Wasn’t she older than him? By a lot?

“You got me the wrong size.” He said flatly. “Just like you did earlier.”

“Ah, right,” She smiled. “Sorry Yoongi, here.”

She passed him another shirt to which he snatched angrily. Suga gave them one last glare before slamming the door in her face. She giggled delightfully at the closed door and rejoined the others with a squeal. I grimaced in disgust as they resumed to talking about the member’s bodies.

A few minute later, Suga walked out fully dressed. He bowed bitterly at the stylists and motioned for me to follow him. I complied, letting him lead me out of the room and back to where Jungkook was.

Before we entered, he stopped me. With a swift motion, he took the almost half gone coffee out of my hand and drank it in one long session.

My mouth fell open as I tried to stop him. “Hey, that’s for Jungkook.”

He wiped his mouth with his hand and tossed the empty cup in the garbage. “No wonder it’s so sweet. You’ve been played. Jungkook doesn’t drink coffee.”

My brows came together and he chuckled at my expression.

“I, on the other hand, needed that.” He coughed and leaned on the wall. “Oh how I wish that you worked under me rather than Jungkook.”

I flushed at his compliment. “Where is your worker?”

He threw up his hands and made a face. He looked over and pulled open the door. “Who knows, I introduced myself and she ran off to who knows where.”

He pointed his chin at the room, motioning for me to go in first. I hesitated, but complied in the end with him dead on my heels. As soon as the door clicked close behind us, he walked around me and patted me on the head, leaning his head in ever so slightly towards me.

“Thanks Jaehwa, I hope we get more chances to talk in the future.”

He left without another word leaving me to feel the racing of my heart against my chest. For some reason, the way he said my name made my heart skip a beat.

Did my heart just move for Suga?
