It was her fault, it was all her fault. I had known all along that my mother would do something like this. When i was little we had seemed like the perfect family. My parents were the goofiest, grossest lovey dovey couple the world had ever seen. At least I thought so. By my junior year in highschool, I started noticing something different. My mother started working later shifts. And my father started to get a bit distant with her.
‘’Mom’s having an affair.’’ Said My sister one night. She came home one night and into my room. She didn’t even hesitate. She just outright said it. I didn’t tell my dad. And my sister almost never lied. So of course I believed her. It made sense anyways. And i remember the boiling hot anger that surged within me as I read the emails, noticed her expensive new jewelry, started smelling the pricey perfumes, and got the letters.
I would have never imagined at first that my mother would cheat on my father. Did the other man know? Did he care?
It was then visually confirmed my senior year when my dad picked me up early from school and drove a few blocks away from the large pretty building. It wasn’t too far from the care center where my mom worked. I was wondering at first why my dad stopped here instead at the care center. It was a few minutes later when I saw the tall, dark haired handsome man with his arms wrapped around my mom, his lips on hers as they embraced each other in a heated kiss.
My dad held my hand and told me not to cry. He said he knew that sooner or later this would have happened. And he said he wasn’t mad. But something had to be done about it. And I knew what that meant. I knew at once.
‘’Don’t leave me with her.’’ Said my sister, Lila. she begged me not to go to Daegu with dad. She hated him. So I told my dad that I was sorry. And I stayed.
So I wasn’t surprised when I came home to the garage half empty, my dad’s car gone. And my sister stomping around upstairs as my mom sobbed. She was yelling gibberish and I could hear her boyfriend’s voice trying to calm her down.
My mom sat crying at the table. And when she looked up and saw me. She apologized and kept apologizing until no more words came out..
That was a whole year ago. And things had changed for the better. At least I thought so,
‘’And then she told me to drive her home. I'm so done with girls.’’ Whined Soonyoung. He had the worst luck with girls, honestly. And he always told us about it. I laughed to myself as he leaned onto the counter dramatically. Honestly, he was so precious. ‘’I’m sorry, Hoshi.’’ Said Jeonghan, my best friend. He pat Soonyoung’s back and went to put coffee beans into the grinder.
‘’If it makes you feel better.’’ He continued, ‘’Hotaru’s been single for almost two years.’’ I stopped my stirring and glared at him. ‘’So what I’ve been single?’’ I hissed. ‘’I’ll have you know that I’m perfectly fine. If I wanted a boyfriend, I could have one. But if you’re thirsty, here.’’ With that, I handed him a glass of water. Soonyoung and Dahyun, who was behind him bursted out laughing. And I grabbed my pen and pad as the customer alert bell went off. I put on my best face only to falter when I was faced with the three youths that walked in.
They were the type you’d see in a magazine or something. The girl looked like an alternative model, her brown hair pulled into a high pony tail and her lips were stained with a dark red lipstick. She looked down at her baby pink nails for a bit before turning to look at the other two guys for confirmation. The tallest out of them with a young man with jet black hair and a piercing gaze. He bowed to me as I bowed.
The young man with the sunset colored hair greeted me. With his ears pierced in several places and his full lips pulled into a friendly smile. He wore a nice cardigan over black slacks. He placed his sunglasses on top of his head and smiled at me. ‘’Could we get a booth, please?’’ He asked. His voice was so smooth. My head spun a little, I had seen him before, I knew I had, but I couldn’t remember where it had been. I took them to the most secluded booth and handed them the menus. ‘’Let me know when you’re ready to order, My name is Hotaru and I’ll be your server.’’
‘’That’s a Japanese name.’’
Said the girl suddenly. She sat with the tallest guy, giving him the window seat. And she stared at me as if I myself was the menu.
‘’Huh?’’ I asked her. And she continued . ‘’Your name, It’s japanese, are you half Japanese?’’ I shook my head no. ‘’But that’s weird.’’ She was about to say more. But the tall guy stopped her. ‘’Really, Eun-Ji, Does it matter?’’ He said in a bemused tone. The girl, Eun-Ji, wved him off. ‘’I’m just being curious, Kai.’’ she snapped. She pouted for a few seconds then looked back up at me. ‘’Alright, Sorry to hold you up.’’ She said with a grin. And I stood there for a few awkward minutes before turning away and getting their drinks in order. I felt the guy with the sunset orange hair’s eyes on my back the whole time.
Notes
Yes, I meant Kai from Exo And Eun-ji from Apink. They'll make up some of Jimin's underground band.
