Winter's Cabin
The Beginning of High School
-Flashback to Beginning of Freshman Year-
Finally. It’s freshman year. Things are gonna change from her on out. I’m gonna stop being so chicken & finally ask out –
“Hey Janet!” shrieks from behind called me & broke my thought. I turned to see my best friend, Nikita, & my close friend Katelin.
“Hey Kita! Hey Katey” I said as I hugged them. “How was your guys’ summer?”
“I had fun, in my swimsuit the whole time.” Katelin said enthusiastically.
Nikita simply replied with “Eventful…”
“Oh! Was it now?” I inquired.
“No cleaning?” Katelin added.
“Yes.” she said to me “& not so much.”
“How so?” She blushed at my question, which made me curious. “Did you do the do?”
*Gasp* “No way?” Katelin was in shock.
“Ani! No!” she shouted. “What kind of girl you guys think I am?”
“Hey, you were the one glowing from ear to ear.” I said “I was just asking.” I added.
“*Few*” Katelin sighed.
“Well, no. I didn’t do it”
“Didn’t do what?” a voice from behind said.
“Have se--.” she paused, when she finally realized who it was. “I mean cook them lunch, of course.” she said, trying to recover.
The boys had showed up in the middle of the conversation, when Leo asked about our conversation. We hugged them & asked each other about their summers. Leo said he stayed home mostly & spoke to this girl, which he won’t elaborate on. After the looks him & Nikita gave each other, I had my suspicions but I let it be, for now. Darryl went on a religious quest, in the mountains, with the local church. He said he was “enlightened” by the trip & that it made him feel “alive.” Katelin had actually joined him, on the trip. The church had enough money, so there was one extra spot on the trip & Katelin wanted to ‘find herself,’ therefore she tagged along. There was a lake, so they spent a lot of time there relaxing. Jungkook had gon back to South Korea, to visit his family again. His family are really sweat. I had called him via Video-chat on Facebook & spoke with them, several times. I checked on them from time to time. As for Vernon & I, we spent the entire summer, alternating between each other’s houses. We pretty much did it all; from swimming to laser tag, from the zoo to Netflix & Chill minus the sex (though it did get a little touchy). I enjoyed how we grew closer. Didn’t think it was possible for two people to be so close but we broke that barrier.
As we were catching up, the bell rang & it was time for class, so we parted ways. For the first time ever, we didn’t have all our classes together, we had a total of 8 classes and only 1 altogether. 1st hour, Leo & Darryl had Weight Training, Jungkook & Katelin, went to their Honors English class, Vernon had Honors Physical Science, & Nikita & I had Health. We parted ways & went to our classes. All of our 1st period teachers, except for Leo & Darryl, gave us homework, on the 1st day! Next block, however we all had CP class, which stands for College Prep. CP prepared us for college by helping us narrow down college choices, find scholarships, & develop skills that would benefit us in the future.
After class ended, Nikita, Vernon, & I walked to our Honors Geometry class. We had a sophomore class because we passed the Placement test. Leo & Katelin had Honors Algebra, their scores were just under passing. Darryl, however, was the only one to have English for 3rd period. 4th block was study hall & we all had it together in Professor Lee’s class. 5th hour Leo & Darryl departed for Health class, while the rest of us went to Weight Training. Weight Training was split; there was a girl’s class & guy’s class, no co-ed. Next hour was lunch, so us girls decided to wash up, in the locker room, before heading to eat. 5 minutes into lunch we came out & the boys were waiting for us.
“Damn! What took y’all so long?!” Leo exclaimed.
“We had to wash up.” Nikita sneered back.
“Girls.” Darryl stated.
I rolled my eyes at his comment & said “What, did you want us to come out funky & shit” with a laugh.
“Hey. At least they keepin up with they hygiene.” Vernon announced.
“Thank you.” I said, facing him.
We headed into the cafeteria, to get our lunch, & were overwhelmed with the amount of people standing in lines. The cafeteria was set up like a concession stand at a football game, where they mad multiple places to order/pick–up food. We decided to find a table, sit down, & wait ‘til the lines died down a bit. As we sat down we caught up on how our classes were going so far. 5 minutes later, the lines had died down a bit, so we hopped in line & got our food. We continued to catch up before the bell rang. By the end of the day, I had a ton of homework & no energy for it.
Immediately after gettin home, around 3 p.m., I passed out & didn’t wake up ‘til midnight. I got up & started on all of my homework. I had to read & annotate a few articles for Honors English & Health, on top of answering some questions, & I had about 20 equations to solve for Geometry. When I was finished, it was 3 in the morning. I went to the kitchen grabbed a late night snack, & headed back to my room, & started daydreaming, before dozing off.
