A Trip To Neverland

Revelations Right In The Morning

Peter… Peter…
The faint voice keeps resonating in my head soon after I wake up. Gosh, this is annoying. Won’t that voice stop getting on my nerves? I have other things to do than worry about that, like study for my finals. Wait, I don’t even have to study, I already know everything. I grunt, ruffling my hand through my straight hair. I go take a shower and quickly head downstairs to greet my grandfather good morning. As soon as I notice his frail frame at the oven, my lips stretch into a childish smile.

“Hi Grandpa! Good morning! How do you feel?”

The old man turns around and grins kindly at me.

“I’m the best, as always. Do you feel more like pancakes or waffles today, Sehun?”

I think deeply for a moment, itch my non-existent beard and answer seriously:

“I can’t have both, can I?”

We both start laughing and settle on waffles for breakfast. When everything is ready, we get seated on the small wooden table we have and eat happily, chit-chatting together. Suddenly, I feel like telling my Grandpa about the annoying voice that keeps interrupting my peaceful dreams at night.

“Hey Grandpa, there’s been something strange going on at night, during my dreams. Like, they begin normally, but then everything goes black and there’s this female voice that calls… What was it again…”

I dig through my memory to find the name that I usually always remembered.

“You know, it’s an English name… It begins with P, I think?”

“Peter,” he murmured breathlessly.

I snap my fingers, remembering.

“Yeah, that’s it! Wait. But how did you know?” I eye him suspiciously.

He looks away and that is when I know something is wrong. He’s hiding something from me and I really don’t like it. Thankfully, today is a day off, so I’ll be able to nag him about it all day.

“Gramps, if you-“

He gets up suddenly, takes the dishes and walks to the sink to wash them without saying a word. I follow him to help, feeling more and more uneasy as time passes. After we are done, he goes to the living room and sits on his favorite brown and overused couch, grabs a book from the pile next to him and opens it.

“Sehun, come here please,” he asks me suddenly.

I obey quickly and sit on the sofa next to him. I glance at the book and realize it’s Peter Pan. Even more confused, I let out a small chuckle.

“Grandpa, I don’t mean to make fun of your book, but why are you reading a child’s story? I believe you’re way past that age now.”

“Sehun, don’t you remember I used to read this to you every night before you went to sleep?” he asks, ignoring my question.

I nod, slightly frustrated by my grandfather’s weird acting.

“This book is… Special. Very special,” he begins to explain. “You see, it holds many dear memories of mine, and of yours.”

“What do you mean?”

“My dear boy, you are 18 this year, right?”I confirm. “I believe it’s time for you to know what you have wanted to know all along. Where you are from, your family, everything.”

I gulp, feeling my heart beat speed up gradually.

“Everything said here is true and has happened, whether you remember or not. First of all, Sehun, you must know that I am not linked to you biologically. I am not your grandfather and your parents did not die in a car crash when you were younger… At least, I don’t think so. Your story goes back to the 20th century, during the World War II. You were just a normal boy, orphaned during that time. Someone, who was believed to be your mother, had left you at the door of the orphanage in a small basket with only a letter with your name and birth date. However, due to the raining that night, this part of your information was washed away and we could never read what was written, so we never knew what your birthday was. During exactly 14 years, you lived in that horrible place, being mistreated every day by the sisters that ruled the place. One day, though, everything changed when you decided that you would get back to them and infiltrated the Head Sister’s office during the night. I have to admit, you were clever, but very mischievous. That night, a bomb was dropped on the orphanage and you fell in a hole in the office, which led to a secret passage under the building. There, you saw an immense floating boat in the middle of nowhere. You walked on it and discovered that it was actually a pirate’s ship. Of course, you were caught almost immediately and they brought you to what is called Neverland.”

“Like in the book?” I ask, eyeing the novel in his hands.

“Yes, just like in the book. So as I was saying, you were brought to that place, where you realized thousands of children your age or younger working in mines. You were deeply horrified by that view and wanted to help them, although you couldn’t do anything as you were tied up in ropes. To make long story short, the pirates had decided to make you fall from the ship because you had seen things you shouldn’t have, as a regular human. They untied you and threw you off the edge of the boat into the deep crevasse, in front of everyone’s terrified eyes. That’s how they kept the workers from rebelling. Every month or so, they would do the same thing to someone who had not been useful enough.”

“But what were they searching, in the mines?” I question, completely absorbed in the story.

“Why, gold of course! But not the regular gold we know. The gold over there has magic properties, which permitted to keep the ship from losing its own magic and stop floating. They needed a lot, you see, as the ship was immense. I would say… As big as the Titanic, at least.”

“Wow, this is amazing. Go on,” I urge him, wanting to hear more.

“Well, you see, as they threw you off, they believed that you were just a regular boy that was at the wrong place and at the wrong time. But no, you were much more than this. Much more than anyone could have ever thought. You were Peter, the orphaned boy with no obvious origins, but you could change the world.”

“So what did Peter do?”

“You mean you did,” he corrects me. “You did the unthinkable. You flew.”

“He… I mean I flew?”

“You did. As you were quickly closing the distance between the hard rock and yourself, you released the power that was sleeping inside you and you stopped yourself in mid-air. And after that, you risked your life a lot, went through many dangerous situations and met of course, the girl who is now called the Black Pearl. But all of this is for another day, we have much time on our hands.”

“Wow, Grandpa that was an amazing story. Although I’m 18, I really did like it. You have a great imagination!” I encourage him, putting my thumbs up as I got to my feet.

“Sehun, all of this is true. I told you.”
I chuckle and look back at him.

“Grandpa, I’m not a child anymore. I know what the difference between real and unreal is.”

He looks at me dead in the eye and a chill runs down my spine. This is not Grandpa Suho. Who is this?

“But what if you were wrong?”

Notes

Hullo lovely readers, it's me again :)
I was so excited to post this story because I don't think I've seen one like this before (if someone did write something similar, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to copy at all please don't hate me or curse me) and because I just have a great feeling about it. I'm also sorry to people whose bias isn't Sehun because I don't believe we will meet any other EXO members on a frequent basis (but I might introduce some of them as secondary characters, don't worry, I don't do discrimination). So yeah, of course I thank all of you for taking your time to read this, it makes me feel amazing every timeI see the views on my stories grow everyday. Please don't hesitate to vote or comment your thoughts, you know how I feel about feedback (if you don't, well... I love it! :D)
Thank you so much for supporting me, and as always...
Saranghae :) <3<3<3<3
